I thought I owned every recording made by the Corries and to discover these very early recordings has been sheer bliss. I particularly like the haunting quality of this song featuring the etherial voice of Paddie Bell.
Fascinating song ........love the informed comments to ALL of the Trio s songs especially from megaarchitect........keep posting it takes all of us back decades.
Sigh! I just love it! Listening over and over again, this morning! Many thanks for info - The Jupiter Book of Ballads - the only recorded duet between Ronnie & Paddie Bell - Many thanks!
Does anyone know where I could get a recording of this (I have a record player so if it is in record form I could play it)? I've been looking but have had no luck and I really want to get this incredible song on my Ipod. Thanks!
FINE FLOWERS IN THE VALLEY!! Superb! "Green leaves they grow early!..." Oh wonderful - Many thanks, Linda! I love this song! Wondering if it dates from as far back as "how could I love, and I so young - through the glass window shines the sun?" Marvelous gem, here!
I think we found this version in the Jupiter Book of Ballads. Songs with infanticide as the theme are quite common with the ghost of the child turning up to confront the mother "who done her in". The song is rare in that it is the only recorded duet between Ronnie & Paddie Bell.

Lovely song! I agree, this one is haunting, but nice. I saw this CD on on The Corries website as well, love it! I may buy it after all.

Her voice was as delicate and small as she was. Kind of ghostly, this one.

Nice one Linda. Takes me back to the very earliest days of CFT. Ronnie on guitar - a rare event at that time. But... stands the test of time.
