I am certain that the mansion where all the men met was the Clint Murchison home in Highland Park in Dallas. It even looks just like it. Several of Murchison's former employees spoke about the goings on there the night before the assassination. A housekeeper said Nixon, Hoover were both there.
I saw this movie a couple of years ago. I heard from someone who was an avid assassination researcher that an insider in the assassination actually told this story to someone in Hollywood or somehow sent them the information. This is a very plausible scenario.
This film interestingly spent a great deal of time dealing with those who may have been the overseers of JFK's death. It is ahead of it's time in this awareness and the courage to state it. If you read Russ Baker's "Family of Secrets", he uses thousands of substantiated facts to point out the big business/intelligence connection that went after the Kennedys and even eventually Nixon

ABC News is supposed to air a special later this month in which they will play some tapes recorded of Jackie Kennedy talking that have never been released before. According to the tapes, Jacie Kennedy is on record as saying she believed that then Vice President Lyndon Johnson was one of the many people involved in her husband's assassination. Caroline Kennedy is releasing these recorded tapes to ABC News. She believed it had something to with Kennedy wanting to pull out of vietnam.

I saw this excellent film many years ago. Obviously done on a minimal budget, but they did a good job. I'm surprised Dallas allowed to them to film in Dealey Plaza. Burt Lancaster and Robert Ryan were a couple of lifelong left-wingers, I think Will Geer was too. 'Twilight's Last Gleaming' is another good Lancaster conspiracy film.
Bugliosi continues to ask one question that noone seems to have the answer to: We all know, through life experience, that no secret remains a secret for long if more than one person is in on it. How have so many conspirators kept such a big secret for decades with nobody coming forward and saying "Yes. It's true. This is what happened"?

I felt the same as you until I read Reclaiming History. Have you read it yet? He does a good job of making Lane, Stone, and Garrison look ridiculous. I am particularly interested in what your thoughts are on both Garrison and Stone being quoted as saying that they don't care if Clay Shaw was guilty or not. They just wanted a reason to re-open/present the case and someone had to be sacrificed. And why did JFK Jr. refuse to sit with Stone if he was exposing the 'truth' about his father's killers?

He couldn't hit the floor with his hat, and I've seen proof of his Boot Camp firing tests. He SUCKED. The biggest point is that final shot where Kennedy's head snaps backward. No living creature EVER hit from front or back reacts in the opposite direction from where the shot came. It ALWAYS goes the same direction as the bullet.

The second point is a matter of science. He says he checked with scientists and they said that the human head, at 5-8 lbs, is never influenced by a 3 oz bullet as far as the direction of the head. He says that the neurological reaction of the human head, whether shot from in front, behind, or from the side is always to snap back.

This movie is totally inaccurate even for the times. Lincoln was killed as a result of conspiracy. Booth was not deranged. Theodore Roosevelt was not wounded; his metallic glass case deflected the bullet -- after he was president. They don't even mention the attempt on Andrew Jackson. Furthermore, it has since been proved that Oswald fired the shots within 8.5 seconds, not 5.6. The HSCA proved this in 1977.

Of the 37 attempts made by each shooter to try their three shots the rifle failed 17 times-- almost half of the time, proving how unreliable the rifle was. The set up was nothing like that of the book depository as there were no obstructions. There was a very large tree that obstructed the view from the b. d. window.

Of those 4 two only had one hit, leaving out of all those attempts which did not include the amazing adrenaline any marksman would have had going at hitting a human target with obstructions and the terror of being caught. If anything this proves the impossibility of what YOU think Oswald did.

Oswald fired and missed with the 1st shot, fired through the oak tree. This is obvious in the Z film, circa 155/56, when both JFK and JBC suddenly turn their heads from their right to left. Shot #2 fired circa Z 223/224, both JFK and JBC react suddenly to the same bullet hitting them. Last shot fired Z 312. Time: 8.5 seconds, not the 5.6 the WC thought. *YOU* enjoy that kool aid!

You guys need to stay on top of things. The case has been broken. There is no longer any doubt of a cover-up. See Doug Horne's "Inside The ARRB". The military played a central role by having pre-autopsy surgery done at their hospital in Bethesda, Maryland to conceal evidence of an exit wound on the back of JFK's head. Two FBI agents (Sibert and O'Neil) witnessed the surgery.

@ratricide I saw this in a theatre when it was released in Arlington, Va. I went to the JFK funeral at the Capitol and at the Custis-Lee Mansion in Arlington Cemetary. It immediately was pulled and I have not found any trace of it but this is far more watchable than Costner in Stone's softball flick. Simple question: If it wasn't a conspiracy, then where are the rest of the bullets/fragments? Only 1 bullet is in evidence, and it is basically undamaged, only a few grains short of full weight. Other large fragments were found, but the FBI "lost" them or denied they existed, because too many fragments had been removed from Connelly, disproving the Single Bullet Theory.

I like the introduction to the movie. With the music and the B&W pictures of steel mills, oil refinerys, stock market etc. Its definitly a nice touch to the movie
There was a conspiracy to kill Lincoln. European leaders were also killed by lone assassins up close. And the Secret Service did become responsible for presidential protection until after McKinley's death. Aside from all that, this seems pretty accurate.
Because I want to know what actually happened I don't think it's wise to make a movie that uses partly historical facts and adds fiction to it... there is plenty of fiction around already, lets not make it worse. That is not to say you shouldn't enjoy it, but it's not for me.
Anyone who knows of a fictionless description of was Division D was about, either a book or a documentary, I'd be most grateful if you'd let me know.

I am certain that the mansion where all the men met was the Clint Murchison home in Highland Park in Dallas. It even looks just like it. Several of Murchison's former employees spoke about the goings on there the night before the assassination. A housekeeper said Nixon, Hoover were both there.

ABC News is supposed to air a special later this month in which they will play some tapes recorded of Jackie Kennedy talking that have never been released before. According to the tapes, Jacie Kennedy is on record as saying she believed that then Vice President Lyndon Johnson was one of the many people involved in her husband's assassination. I saw this excellent film many years ago. Obviously done on a minimal budget, but they did a good job. I'm surprised Dallas allowed to them to film in Dealey Plaza. Burt Lancaster and Robert Ryan were a couple of lifelong left-wingers, I think Will Geer was too. 'Twilight's Last Gleaming' is another good Lancaster conspiracy film.

I felt the same as you until I read Reclaiming History. Have you read it yet? He does a good job of making Lane, Stone, and Garrison look ridiculous. I am particularly interested in what your thoughts are on both Garrison and Stone being quoted as saying that they don't care if Clay Shaw was guilty or not. They just wanted a reason to re-open/present the case and someone had to be sacrificed. And why did JFK Jr. refuse to sit with Stone if he was exposing the 'truth' about his father's killers?

@mjlink777 Much as I like and respect Mr. Bugliosi, he couldn't be more wrong! For starters, Lee Oswald was a LOUSY shot in the USMC. He couldn't hit the floor with his hat, and I've seen proof of his Boot Camp firing tests. He SUCKED. The biggest point is that final shot where Kennedy's head snaps backward. No living creature EVER hit from front or back reacts in the opposite direction from where the shot came. It ALWAYS goes the same direction as the bullet.

@skudaarkaat1 Actually he addressed both of those points. You simply disagree on the first point. Mr Bugliosi says he qualified as a sharpshooter in the Marines. The second point is a matter of science. He says he checked with scientists and they said that the human head, at 5-8 lbs, is never influenced by a 3 oz bullet as far as the direction of the head. He says that the neurological reaction of the human head, whether shot from in front, behind, or from the side is always to snap back.

Presumably, Curry gave this statement on the return of the Mannlicher-Carcano rifle from the Washington, DC FBI Crime Lab to the Dallas Crime Lab by Agent Vincent Drain with the statement by Agent Sebastian Latona that "no usable latent prints were recovered from the rifle." audiophile55, 1512 pages and all Bugliosi succeeds in nothing. This movie is totally inaccurate even for the times. Lincoln was killed as a result of conspiracy. Booth was not deranged. Theodore Roosevelt was not wounded; his metallic glass case deflected the bullet -- after he was president. They don't even mention the attempt on Andrew Jackson. @piscesman54 You "wake up". Apparently, you've never seen the CBS 1967 4 part series where expert marksmen fired at a moving target, 11 mph, and how one of them hit the target in less time than Oswald did.
Furthermore, it has since been proved that Oswald fired the shots within 8.5 seconds, not 5.6. The HSCA proved this in 1977.

That special you wrote of is so full of wholes and ignores all the many, varied and detailed information that has been proven over the years. You'll have to do alot better than that to prove your point. PS. common knowledge that Oswald was not an expert shot and the rifle had all kinds of problems from the bolt getting stuck to the site being off and very hard for experts to handle.

Of the 37 attempts made by each shooter to try their three shots the rifle failed 17 times-- almost half of the time, proving how unreliable the rifle was. The set up was nothing like that of the book depository as there were no obstructions. There was a very large tree that obstructed the view from the b. d. window.

@IwshIcldstrtover The speed you cite is meaningless if there is no accuracy. These 11 marksman made 37 attempts and only 4 were better than the supposed time. Of those 4 two only had one hit, leaving out of all those attempts which did not include the amazing adrenaline any marksman would have had going at hitting a human target with obstructions and the terror of being caught. If anything this proves the impossibility of what YOU think Oswald did.

Oswald fired and missed with the 1st shot, fired through the oak tree. This is obvious in the Z film, circa 155/56, when both JFK and JBC suddenly turn their heads from their right to left. Shot #2 fired circa Z 223/224, both JFK and JBC react suddenly to the same bullet hitting them. Last shot fired Z 312. Time: 8.5 seconds, not the 5.6 the WC thought. *YOU* enjoy that kool aid!

Thanks for sharing this film. I remember the assassination, saw this film in the movies in 1973, and remember when my father read the Warren Report. One of my favorite movies. I forgot that it had been pulled from the theaters. I can only recall it being shown on tv once, and the ending was cut.

Never seen it happen this early in the month. I think they are getting pretty popular and thats why. I'm hoping John is gonna purchase more bandwidth per month. You guys need to stay on top of things. The case has been broken. There is no longer any doubt of a cover-up. See Doug Horne's "Inside The ARRB". The military played a central role by having pre-autopsy surgery done at their hospital in Bethesda, Maryland to conceal evidence of an exit wound on the back of JFK's head. Two FBI agents (Sibert and O'Neil) witnessed the surgery.

@ratricide I saw this in a theatre when it was released in Arlington, Va. I went to the JFK funeral at the Capitol and at the Custis-Lee Mansion in Arlington Cemetary. It immediately was pulled and I have not found any trace of it but this is far more watchable than Costner in Stone's softball flick. It actually plays well, and points to all the players, sans the Mob, with spare technique and near documentary style. Own it if you can. we know who did it. Treason most high.

The '78 House Assassination Committee was forced by a preponderance of evidence that Oswald did not, could not have acted alone. Simple question: If it wasn't a conspiracy, then where are the rest of the bullets/fragments? Only 1 bullet is in evidence, and it is basically undamaged, only a few grains short of full weight. Other large fragments were found, but the FBI "lost" them or denied they existed, because too many fragments had been removed from Connelly, disproving the Single Bullet Theory.

I stopped watching after 3 minutes.
Because I want to know what actually happened I don't think it's wise to make a movie that uses partly historical facts and adds fiction to it... there is plenty of fiction around already, lets not make it worse. That is not to say you shouldn't enjoy it, but it's not for me.
Anyone who knows of a fictionless description of was Division D was about, either a book or a documentary, I'd be most grateful if you'd let me know.

Oswald never stood trial, the HCSA and Robert Groden helped conclude additional shooters from the dictaphone recording taken, the autopsy was a wreck it was physically impossible to re-produce the shooting or even trace Oswald's movements, this has been gone over again in again..then magically, Bugliosi is going to debunk Prouty (who explained the whole set up, why the security was pulled, how a cover story takes place, etc.)
