  • It's a sad day when the top comments on a Dave Brubeck video relate to Metallica.

  • Music is an art. Thus, there is no good or bad music. Just different point of views, and everyone has their own. This is why saying "Jazz is better than Metallica", without specifying it's just YOUR point of view is bad. And yes, this applies to Justin Bieber, I personally don't like his music, but it's still an art. This is why humanity is messed up nowadays, because when you don't like something, you feel like you need to tell everyone that it sucks.

  • Love this song, jazz is such a beautiful, patient genre. It does bother me however when people comment on these videos complaining about how teenagers today just listen to and make "bad music." I'm 17, and I enjoy pretty much anything, ranging from rock, metal, electronic stuff, rap, reggae, and jazz so its a pretty narrow minded observation to make about the state of the youth today

  • I am Metallica fun and those dumbs saying anything about rock are stupid. I listen to Marcus Miller since I was 16. rock came out of this music

MUSIC CANNOT BE DIVIDED INTO DIFFERENT KINDS

    IT IS ONE THING.

  • ¿Hay algo mejor?

  • suena muy bien una sinfonía excelente. Viva el jazz clásico :)

  • Играм пасијанс, грицкам бонжиту, душа ми поскакује у правом ритму ... Баци петака!

  • my favourite online version!

  • Great. In an era when all alto players sound as thought they are playng a kazoo it's great to hear a master of lyrical sax playing - wish there were more like him.

  • how come it is a different drummer, not Joe?

  • @seanki98 wondering that too.

  • Plus he makes the solo a rock solo. Damn...

  • The rimshots sound garbage, and his solos over done.

  • my feet can't stop moving i think i lost control of them :(

  • @Killingdog ..Metallica is crap for me, cause nobody is "good" or "bad" ... we are just humans..and I dont like that kind of marketing GOOD/BAD ... NORMAL..jazz is experimental and normal .. try it out with this human or leave it

  • 37 people took nothing.

  • Oh Morello...I wish you were there instead of this rimshot junkie

  • J’étais encore tout petit quand j'ai découver ce morceau, je kiffe ! So good jazz

  • pretty wooden version

  • まるで絹の様な音・・・

    この素晴らしい音楽は永遠に語られるだろうね

  • just amazing!!!!!

  • PERSONALMENTE PENSO CHE VIDEO SIA BELLISSIMO IN QUANTO ESSO PRESENTA UN LIVE DI TAKE 5 ANCORA PIU BELLO DI QUELLO NEL DISCO ; AL SUO INTERNO COESISTONO ASSOLI CHE TRASFORMANO L ESECUZIONE DI QUESTO STUPENDO BRANO IN QUALCOSA DI ANCOR PIU SPECIALE

  • Take Five )

  • 若かりし時代喫茶店でよく流れてました。

  • I absolutely love it :D

  • DAYUM who is that drummer? Man plays the set effortlessly.

  • @fiftyfourj That is Master Jazz Drummer Alan Dawson.

One of the Greatest, but also one of the most over looked ~

  • I don't particularly like this version. He dropped too many notes and it made his transitions very rough.

  • I'm about to play this song on piano I'm excited but it looks hard I hope I have enough talent to give the song what it deserves!!

  • He is so awesome!

  • The drums are so SMOOOOOOOOTH! They are so quiet and Dave looks like Mozart... Everything's so nice in this video, i love Dave Brubeck Quartet!!!

  • i can't get this song out of my head

  • "search on youtube: West Liberty Tri-state Select Honor Jazz Ensemble"

  • So smooth!

  • Great alt magician and always gorgeous women surrounding him. That's what soul does.

  • The drums sound better than any others. This dude had the best kit for jazz, but Joe had the touch of hand.

  • Who cares about them....onward & upward

  • 34 pricks still alive??? i thought i killed 'em all....

  • Paul....the best

  • hehe, finally i can play this song

  • Don't play this at a funeral because the unusual time signature detracts from the selemnity of the event.

  • fantastic drummin'!!!!

  • I think 2,120 people have great taste =D

  • So basically people that like metal hating all other music as a majority are being picked on. Coz thats just how things go. Once metal simmers down to not being a fad, whatever thing catches on then trying to be high and mighty will be downgraded. Everybody trying to be the dog on top. There isn't anything wrong with jazz or metal or justin beiber. I said it. Because thats the truth, different people like different things. I'm a fool for pushing you, but maybe a nudge will help. btw, over 9000.

  • simonlilley, what about Joe Morello. He was the heart and soul of this piece. In the words of Cartman, this drummer sucks ass !.

  • 34 dislikes??? seriously?? why??? so what is music like to you people???

  • Paul Desmond, Dave Brubeck. What more could you want. The ultimate in cool music.

  • I'm trying to get my reading skills up to par (I play guitar) for a jazz ensemble. I really like this song but my god why does it need to be in Eb.. Six flats, god dammit

  • @lugnaz987 I don't know about this specific version, but it was originally recorded in Gb, which has six flats for concert pitch instruments but only three on alto sax. Eb has 3 in concert pitch, by the way. If he is actually playing in Eb on a given version, it would be easier for him considering the alto saxophone is an Eb instrument and that would make the arrangement based on his C scale. I've had to play versions written in F (two sharps on alto sax) and Ab (one flat on alto sax) as well.

  • I wish I could meet Dave Brubeck and he would teach me how to play the song...

  • I see 34 Metallica fans are lost...

  • @MrZee1967

    :-D

    Bob

  • @MrZee1967 hey hey, i'm a metalfan but I luv this.

  • @MrZee1967 Let's hold it on Bieber fans.?

  • @MrZee1967 I'm a Metallica fan and I'm not lost, I actually admire Dave Brubeck and his work, as well as other major jazz performers, sou I think you should keep your mouth shut before making such prejudice of others people's tastes.

  • @MrZee1967 I like metallica, still i love this song ^^

  • @MrZee1967 hahahahahahahahahaha and some rammstein´s too :P

  • @MrZee1967

Don't be hating man, Metal fans can appreciate this. I love it.

  • @MrZee1967 I'm a metallica fan too. But I often listen to jazz.

  • @MrZee1967 what the fuck has metallica to do about this. I love Metallica and I also love Dave Brubeck.

  • @kakarott008 I may not be as intelligent and free spirited as you, nor did I mean to cause a rumble in the Metallica world...but I completely LOATHE them. I could have used Bieber as an example, but that would have been overkill.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrZee1967 i dont like metallica either but just because someone likes metallica doesnt mean they cant like brubeck as well, or vice-versa.

  • @MrZee1967 Congrats!!!... you have won the "more stupid nonsense of viral comments" of the 2011 year...

  • @MrZee1967 Dude, I'm a Metallica fan. Definitely not lost. (;

  • @MrZee1967 I'am a metallica fan and i also like this band...

  • @MrZee1967

im a metallica fan and i aint lost :)

  • Comment removed

  • @MrZee1967 Whoa now. I'm a huge Metallica fan but I fucking love jazz. Don't be judging.

  • @MrZee1967 I'm a Metallica fan, and I like this.

  • @MrZee1967 I'm a Metallica "fan" but I'm most definately not lost.

  • @MrZee1967 hahaha that's an invalid comment. I would agree with you if it was 34 new age music fans such as justin bieber were lost :P. But I'm a fan of both Dave brubeck and metallica. They both make great music. But I guess it's just up to personal opinion

  • @MrZee1967 I'm a Metallica fan, and I'm not lost asshole...I appreciate all musical flavors and find your ignorant comment sad and annoying.

  • @slitherlock Word.

  • @MrZee1967 Do u think Metallica is bad music? U r lost then...

I like Metal music in general and i love Jazz music

  • @MrZee1967 I´m Metallica fan but I listen and like also Jazz .

For example i´m a big fan of Milt Buckner.

But don´t decide that Metallica is crap without listening to a few songs.

There some musical treasures you shouldn´t miss ;-)

    I Love Green Onions :D

    Greetings from Germany

  • @killingdog18 totally agree my friend..i answered him about this as well..\m/

  • @killingdog18 Never heard of Milt Buckner. Sounds like I should get acquainted with his music.

  • @killingdog18 are you expecting a gold star now?

  • @killingdog18 A true music lover will find something to appreciate in ALL styles of music!!

  • @tammyvrba yes of course ^^ but i hate that rivalry between the different types of music ... O.o

  • @killingdog18 are we the same person?

  • @loudmusicman4 maybe :D ^^ where are you from ?

  • @killingdog18 not germany, unfortunately

  • @MrZee1967 I agree with what I see you want to point out. Metallica has really became a mainstream kind of band, and altought it might sound good, it doesn't come close to the soul or toughtness of a jazz piece like this.

  • @MrZee1967 Totally disagree!! One who is able to distinguish and love real music like Jazz, will definitely love metal as well..I am a metal-head but, my love for music started from classical , jazz and then metal…

so please stop having this kind of stereotypes about the metal fans..its an epic fail of your judgment ...

  • @MrZee1967 I disapprove of this. I like Metallica and I like Jazz. Learn to be more open minded about music. Christ.

  • @lyndsayiu5 Rofl! Pwned.

  • @MrZee1967 I'm a metal, blues, rock, classic, and Jazz fan, and I'm not lost

  • @MrZee1967 lol

  • @MrZee1967 5/4 to much for them to handle

  • @MrZee1967 LOL!

  • @MrZee1967 Im fan of metallica, but i like jazz

  • @MrZee1967 i'm a Metallica fan and i love this song too...

  • @MrZee1967 that was ignorant

  • @MrZee1967 @MrZee1967 damn that's so true , hahahahahahah :D : )

  • Comment removed

  • 34 people take only 4 ^^

  • 34 people dont like this track!!!!!

  • @Punk1Day Oh! Really?...

  • I think the best thing to do is keep being yourself and know that the flowers are always seen above the weeds...

  • amazing!!!

  • These guys knew how to compliment each other, in sports you have whats called team players, that term applies here.

  • Where's Joe Morello and his signature drumming ? Without Joe, it's merely 'Take Four and a half'' : (

Time did take away Paul's speed, but thank God, for replacing it with more 'soulful' sound. : )

  • Que rolon chingon

  • absolutely music of the soul, makes me feel so relaxed ...

  • Simply superb.....

  • Now thats real smooth jazz

  • This performance makes me understand why it's called Dave Brubeck Quartet.. 1:08

  • Timelesss performance and composition by true music/jazz legends!!!!!!!!

  • im drumming this :D it's quite hard having lessons for 2 years now.. about 2 weeks till deadline and little band will play for music school :P

  • Did you know that Dave Brubeck. He smoked so thats why his sax. was bad, if you heard closely he dident hit the notes on time or skipped some.

  • @RuthlessJim1 I'll assume you meant Paul Desmond as he's playing the sax and Brubeck is playing the 88s.

  • @RuthlessJim1 If it sounds good and he stays withen his key.......I wouldnt call it skipping notes, its style.

  • This is better than most of the absolute garbage that you hear nowadays.

  • 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312

  • @wytzedeswart

i hate counting like that it always screws me up when the conductor counts like that outloud

  • @howycwap Haha I know what you're saying, I play a piece at the moment with a 7/8 counting It's 1234123 1234123 1234123 !

  • @wytzedeswart

ugggh its the worst its like the conductor cant count past 4

  • @howycwap Yeah like One Two Three And, One Two Three And.

  • @wytzedeswart now is that in triplet feel or are you counting 4/4 quarter notes lol

  • @pifa4life 4/4 XD

  • @pifa4life How about 5/4. :)

  • @astridvriezema what? i dont see where your going with this

  • 33 people can't cound to five

  • @wytzedeswart And 34 people can take only four. :D

  • chouette ces versions différentes

  • This is such a fun song to play on the piano. The bass part in the background.

  • @thebroadwayparisian did u get the sheet music online? if so, then where did you get it???????? I MUST KNOW HOW TO PLAY!!!

  • beg ur pardon , i ment 1961

  • sincerly , i would give this version a thumbs down , the 1966 version sounds much better than this one

  • hmmm i love desmond on sax. He has a unique laid back attack. Do I wish he would go nutty like Cannonball? nah. Just let him solo for 5 mins. I love how he variates on those easy 5/4ths, makes him sound like he is always a step ahead :)

  • desmond has such a great sound/tone and dawson's playing is always so musical and supportive.

    thanks for posting

  • This is the second Take Five video I see on youtube and once again the top two comments are "x people [verb] [bullshit]". Meanwhile the only intelligent post is hidden because it doesn't reflect popular opinion.

Thanks for killing the internet, guys. Really. This used to be a place of intelligence, now it's where pseudo comedians go to share and rehash the exact same joke every single day to a crowd that's too dumb to be bothered by the painful triteness.

  • @bobjazz11 Excellent use of the word Trite, which most people do not understand!

  • @therealJayRoe Youtube comments were never, ever a place of intelligence.

  • i love how the 2 top rated comments work together..

  • @therealJayRoe totally agreed. instead of the comment area containing some or any useful information about the artist, the event or anything else useful it contains only bullshit

  • @therealJayRoe In 1972, at the age of 10, you can imagine, my main interest as for music was about european Bubble-Gum-pop-rock and other commercial stuff like that... One day that time I heard Take 5 on the radio - and this tune kept being one of my favourites until today

thenks to the uploader uploading this brilliant ONE

  • @therealJayRoe says a guy with dogs humping people as a favorite video...good use of the internet mate

  • @therealJayRoe You are awesome. Thank you very much for your post. ~Random person you most likely will never meet in your life time~

  • @therealJayRoe I like pie too.

  • @therealJayRoe I just thumbed up you comment to prove you wrong, Take that! :P

  • for sure mate, brubeck desmond smith and miniciello are my favourites, even though i heard enough jazz to 'get' parker and monk, keep it melodic and accesible is what i say.. love them, check out 'jazz impressoins of eurasia' to have your heart blown to bits

  • Wheres Joe?

  • @Leedysgladstones Joe had left to do other projects. Jo0e made this song hype. Desmond moved over from bass to play the drums.

  • 30 people wants to take more than five

  • 30 people listen to Justin Bieber

  • Drummer is definately no Joe Morello!

  • 5 beats in every bar! =)

  • @5753kazuaki damn right brother, preach it
