  • @advacoRRR Iam Dont know the details about this incident but I do know these planes are capable of these manuvers at the air show held in my hometown they would have a C-17 throw the nose in the air off the runway and pull off incredibley tight turns. He was obviously pushing the plane for a reason the military doesnt just film flights like this on a regular basis. Its not immaturity but a moentary lapse of judgment that brought this plane down

    This was practice for an airshow, all but the last manouver where standard practice. The crash is beleived to be either sever mechanical failure or simply misjudgement by the pilot.

  • What on earth is it with these experienced pilots and these cargo planes? Frustrated fighter pilots? This is exactly what happened to the ill-fated B-52 many years ago, over-banking, then straight into the ground. Makes me so sad. This is horrible.

    This plane type is supposed to be able to handle it. I think something was wrong with this particular plane. It's either that or the A440M and C-130J are just much better options as they bank harder during airshows - without falling to the ground.

  • @AtmosphericMk2 Good point, the C-130 is pretty good with that sort of thing to my limited knowledge. Though the point is a pilot should know his individual aircrafts limits, and unfortunately its too late once that limit is found. Here's hoping we dont ever see this sort of thing again!

    Sure... it's possible (without load) only 2-3 seconds and with ennough speed (the A400M prototype bank more than that in a demo without problems), but here the pilot turn at slow speed and was without any reaction wile the aircraft slip sideways...

He didn't have the altitude to recover, he ignored safety warnings, he didn't give a crap about his crew or their families, he over estimated his abilities, he overflew the aircraft capabilities. It was NOT designed to fly that way. Nothing in the mission from Alaska justifies his actions. Too bad so many innocent people died because an idiot was in the left seat.

  • The aircraft's angle of bank on it's take off roll was far too high. I am surprised the C-17 did not stall and lose lift immediately. How did this pilot ever pass his flight test?

  • @MarcfromNemesis3 that is a standard take off with low fuel and low payload done by almost every airforce pilot out there ...even the bank angles used are manageable by an aircraft like that ...every pilot has to be trained to steep bank turns in here pilot ended up in the worse case scenario ...spiral dive ...possibly because of dynamic stall in turbine engines caused it .

    a steep level turn consists of a high degree of bank and thrust combination used by the pilot , from 30 degree to 60 pilot increases the bank while using back pressure and increased power to create lift therefore balance.easy job.

    In some countries steep level turns are also referred as an evasive maneuver , also steep descending turns are mandatory in most of the countries to avoid different airspace zones when clearance cannot be obtained.

    in this planes case pilot did not use enough back pressure and power to keep the plane balanced and level therefore nose dropped and worse case scenario happened SPIRAL DIVE.

  • @sentinel531 The crew were all Americans, the American pilot stalled and the resulting crash killed everybody onboard. A year before an American crew landed one with the gear up after not following the correct landing checklist, in fact every incident involving the Globemaster had US (note I have used capital letters) crews piloting.

    Also the question mark goes at the end of a sentance and the rest of the known world puts a capital letter at the beginning. Hope this answers your question.
