Thanks. There are no quantum leaps in technology in that airplane. Inside its made from parts of other existing aircraft to save money and so it's just a progression of technology. If I were back engineering a UFO why would I put wings on it? The propulsion system would likely be some kind of gravity drive or something, and it wouldnt need any wings. This aircraft features "elevons" which are a combination of aerilons and elevators and the tail is a flying tail design which controls yaw of the aircraft. A normal vertical rudder and tail would present a large radar return and defeat the purpose of the aircraft. Every surface on the F-117 is designed to reflect radar energy away from its source and thus hide the aircraft. So the rudder is the flying tail, and the elevator is combined with the aerilons. Together they make one awesome aircraft.
