  • That block signal couldn't make up its mind starting at 8:23.

  • @Strasburgfanatic You, I never noticed that until you pointed that out. It's because of the switch circuit.

  • EXCELLENT!!!

  • the 475 is a 4-8-0 N&W class

  • @HaloCE14 They did for the 7002/1223 run back in the 1980s. A trip to Phillidelphia, and another to Harrisburg.

  • @Kayushi Who was the engineer?

  • I like this whistle, but the one they have her know is nicer in my opinion.

  • I always liked the 3 chime whistle

  • i always love a 3 chime whistle i think its my favorite.

  • There Are many reasons why strasburg doesn't use the Amtrak mainline

    1. The insurence is a ton of money

    2. Amtrak has a busy schedule

    3. The trains have small driing wheels

    4. The trains have friction bearings

    There are more

It would be nice if they did one though

  • Hold on Wait a minute scince when does straburg run 2 trains!?! and when did they build a passing track

  • @MilwaukeeSDman Strasburg has run two trains since I've been visiting, over 20 years ago. The siding track has been there since the 1970s

  • Seems like #90 is the only one of Strasburg's 4 steamers that never gets to pull the Reading Business Car.

  • That 3-chimed whistle really showed her true identity. I mean, it was a lot better than those two whistles that were regularly worn (appologies to any other original whistle fans in the audience).

  • fantastic video, that is a good sounding whistle!

  • Nice job CSX6000! Lovin that whistle!

  • Nice shots of #475! Wish we could hear this whistle on #475 more often than any of her other N&W Hooters.

  • It sounds like a pennsy K4 whistle, just like my

    MTH 2-8-0

  • Anyone else notice he engine only did 3 long blasts instead of the traditional long-long-short-long fashion

  • The only problem with that is that the 3751 can keep up with an Amtrak schedule and run at track speed. in addition, the 3751 (Ibelieve) has roller bearings, which is most likely an Amtrak requirement for excursion engines. If anything the SRR engines may be able to deadhead over Amtrak rails to a freight only line where their 40-50 mph top speed and friction bearings would not be an issue. Even that, however would take alot of work, with insurance and agreement between the railroads.

  • There's probably many reasons that they don't mainly the fact that both the engines and cars have friction bearings. The heavy traffic on the Amtrak main doesn't help either, especially since none of the SRR engines have much in the way of speed capability. It would be nice to get the 90 or the 475 out on the main for once, however.

  • Was this whistle designed to be a reproduction of any specific type of whistle, or was it just a one-off design?

  • This 3-chime whisle was built to resemble the 3-chime whistle on sister engine #382 (A sister to 475) that was built by engineer Nichols on the N&W's Abingdon branch line in the 1950's. It doesn't sound much like the original, but it sounds great still.

  • @AmericanRailVideos is 382 still around?

  • They should keep this whistle, its more relaxing instead of the squeak-squeak whistle it usually has.

  • Main focus was on $475. To spend on a new whistle? LOL

  • This sounds so much better than the whistle 475 usually has! Engine 90 still sounds good too.

  • #475 should keep that whistle if u ask me.

  • Yes, I wish they would restore that engine 433 Class M engine. I've seen a picture of it on railpics' site. It would be nice if NS used it, for a steam excursion program. MAYBE they should bring it back. All 4 of those class M engines should be saved; those class M's are a real beauty and it would be ashame if they didn't restore 433 ATLEAST. Maybe Strasburg should buy it! ;) Comon', they gotta restore 433. SOMEONE's gotta do it. It's in great condition anyway. They shouldn't waste that engine.

  • It looks like they're running 2-trains in October, eh?

It's been a while since they've done that!

  • They do it every Columbus Weekend.

  • is that the strasburg homemade 3 chime

  • the whistle is great

  • wow this is a rare treat, 475 with out her hooter. i love it!!!!!!!!!

  • Ever heard her 12 inch hooter? It sounds really good, but deeper toned and rougher than the one she wears normally. And yep, this whistle is really nice. To see the 12 inch hooter in action, look for Adam's video of Strasburg Railroad: Memorial Day '08.

  • yes i have her heard her hooter before. but im not trying to start any bad blood. it just shocked me to see her wearing a 3 chimer for a change, thats all.

  • I know.

  • Beautiful country.

  • Great video. 5 stars!

  • Great footage! What wheel arrangement is 475? #90 looks like a 2-10-0 - big for a tourist railroad engine!

  • #475 is the only operating 4-8-0 in North America.

  • Aha! Thanks! I thought I counted that out but figured I must be seeing things. That's a rare one!

  • they should have had its sister operating

  • forgive me but 475 has a sister loco at Strasburg? sorry for my stupidity

  • No it's somewhere else in Virginia.

  • @CSX6000 What is the number of 475's sister?

  • no its at the virginia creeper rr in arlington

  • The 433 is on the Virginia Creeper Bike Trail. Not somewhere it could be moved for restoration. Then you got the three rusted 4-8-0 in Roanoke, but that's something else altogether

  • Oh yeah, almost forgot: Abingdon, not Arlington

  • haunting...but i like her normal one better

  • i think 90 should wear that homemade 3 chime

  • 90 should. its whistle is nice, but this one would seem to fit the engine better, a tittle deeper, etc

  • i like 90 with the 6 chime but it sounds more of a business whistle like 614 working for amtrak

  • Why? That whistle was made for 475 and 475 only. 475 sounds great with ANY of her 3 whistles: The 8 inch Hooter, 12 inch Hooter, and 3 chime. 90 Sounds great with the RDG G-3 6-chime that she wears now. All the whistles that the engines wear right now sound great on them and I hope it stays that way forever. That 3 chime was built for 475 ONLY.

  • i meant 90 should wear a 3 chime not the homemade one. she should wear a q2 3 chime

  • Very Nice Indeed! 5*****!

  • This whistle, the hooter and....im not sure what the other one is. Your a lucky man being able to see all this steam. Foam from the mouth forever you will.

  • cool they did the same thing at tweetsie railroad with #190s Yukon whistle
