@jessicaaxo7 I'm a gun owner but this comment is really stupid. Take a look at the girl who was killed by the coyotes. Do you *really* think she'd be the type to carry a firearm in the woods for protection? No. You might do it, I might, but just because laws might permit carrying firearms in public areas (something I don't agree with personally) doesn't mean everyone will.
@severedtesticles who are u to judge who is the type to carry a firearm? i know many 70+ year old grandmothers, young women, and church leaders who carry.
when you take away people's right to defend themselves, you don't stop criminals, you create victims.
@jh1keener hey, I'm just sick of all the misinformed Americans who get their "facts" straight from the NRA and Fox News. Canada doesn't really have strict gun control laws. We require all fireamrs owners to pass a test and acquire a license before geting a firearm and passing background checks are part of that process. There are graduated licenses, each allowing you to own progessively more "dangerous" firearms.
@jh1keener As for conceal and carry, we don't live in a country where anybody really thinks that's necessary. Crime is very low up here and frankly I feel sorry for Americans that feel they have to bring a handgun with them everytime they go out in public. It's a stupid cowboy fantasy to think that an untrained citizen with a firearm is going to be able save the day. More likely he will just add to the misery with wild shots.
@severedtesticles The hit percentage of police officers in gun fights is only 25% . . . and reality is that most armed civilians put more rounds down range than our police officers do. so much for untrained. The fact that you have to register your guns is a breach of freedom.
Your violent crime rate is higher than ours, and you only think that your laws aren't that strict because you have been told it enough. poor guy. Fact: my government does NOT know i have my guns = win.
@jh1keener If you actually think that the violent crime rate in Canada is higher than the US then you are on crack. Over 10,000 people are murdered with a firearm in the USA every year vs abount 125 in Canada. You have 10 times our population so if our vioelent crime rate were higher we would need to have over 1,000 firearm murders.

@jh1keener If I am to take you seriously you are going to have to provide a source for your allegation of Canada's higher violent crime rate....I have a feeling I'll be waiting a long time.
@jh1keener Further, I can go out tomorrow and but any semi-automatic rifle or shotgun or handgun that isn't prohibited. Chances are most, if not all, of the guns you own and available here and I could buy tomorrow. I have friends who legally own MG-42's and MG-34's....do you?
@severedtesticles please buy a kimber 1911 with a 3.5 inch barrel. BTW violent crime doesn't mean murder alone. for instance 2/3 of U.S. homicides involve a gun, in canada it is only 1/3. it also includes assults of all kinds.

WE all can be caught up in such situation whether in the wilderness, communities and or cities! Many comments here are clearly coming SCUM who forget that there are no worse predators then US!
@severedtesticles i live in ohio. we are allowed to open carry without a permit, can own a full auto with a license. i prefer my bolt action rifle over a full auto anyday killing a coyote at 500 yards is better than spraying and praying.
@jh1keener Personally I am glad people aren't allowed to carry openly up here. The idea of owning guns for self defense is pure fantasy. Statistically speaking Americans are SOOO unlikely to be a victim of a crime but this siege mentality seems to exist down there. Everyone so afraid someone's going to break into their house when in reality that will never happen to 99.99% of Americans. BTW, I have a Mauser K98k.
Coyotes aren't "Shy" their Smart. They run away to be chased. They WANT you to chase them into an unfamiliar area so they will have the advantage. In the unfamiliar area, 2 or more will attack its prey and bring it down. If you don't chase them, they will keep coming back until its prey does chase them into the unfamiliar area. They use this technique with lager pray they want to take down. Most of the K9 species either run away OR attack they never runaway and return. It's fight or flight.
thats nature, survival of the fittest. warning signs, hiking alone unarmed....not a good idea to tempt fate. im saddened by this, but at the same time its their land too. we backed them into the corner, dont be so surprised when they fight back. i guess man is not the dominate species. use common sense, carry a gun, be smart ,be protected. r.i.p Taylor.
I don't mean to be an asshole or insult the dead, but she did have it coming in a sense. If you are going to risk encountering wildlife, you should know how to react when you do come across predators. Coyotes, even cougars, rarely see humans as prey. The only other North American fatality involving coyotes was 30 years ago and it involved a three year old... You don't need a gun, but you do need to be aware. This death was linked to stupidity, make no mistake. Very sad though.
@Grungadin Well, I don't think anyone deserves to go like that. Sure, she could have done things differently and maybe survived. I just don't like it when people call someone who died and idiot. Any one of us could be in a situation like that, we don't know how we'd react unless we were there ourselves.
Can't really blame her though. Coyotes have never posed a threat to adult humans. I've never considered them a threat myself. Do you carry a gun when you go to your back yard, or when you go shopping for groceries, in case coyotes attack? I don't. It's not even on my mind.
There are coyotes all over the urban cities, yet no adult has ever been killed except Taylor. This attack was just unheard of, a freak accident.
@Grungadin - you say "she had it coming" ? what the hell is wrong with you? did it occur to you that her family and loved ones will read what you wrote? you don't care? have some compassion. it's all too common for people to point fingers and blame.. but you went way too far with that comment. thousands of people walk in bear and mountain lion country ever day and don't even see a bear.. how could anyone have predicted that she would be attacked and killed by coyotes?
@originalrecoil Sorry about that person, either he is from Cape Breton or he thinks like one, i lived there most of my life and people thinks because hunt they know nature, but she is in peace and see the reaction of her family compared too Grungadin, they didn't want no harm done to any living thing, not those rednecks where i use too live, thanks for defending her and not allowing stupid capers too be the asshole of Canada.
@Grungadin continued.. I've been hiking on the Bruce Trail around Hamilton Ontario for most of my life. sometimes out after dark having a campfire with a friend. there are Eastern Coyotes living in those woods. we've heard them yipping and howling many times and seen them once or twice. I hear them from my window in the suburbs. but I don't think many people would expect to be attacked by coyotes even at night, much less broad daylight. for sure they can be dangerous....
@Grungadin - lastly - so you're right.people need to be careful, but before this incident I dont think it would occur to most people to watch out for coyotes when they're hiking on a sunshiny day. a lot of people dont realize they Eastern Coyotes are wolf hybrids. they've got the large size and wolf pack hunting instincts with the cunning and adaptability of the coyote. so it's not fair to cast blame. anyone who hikes alone could have been taken by surprise. * R.I.P. Taylor Mitchell*
@Grungadin That comment was totally uncalled for. No class what so ever. What if that would of been your daughter or wife? Would you still think she had it coming? And your wrong about the 30 year thing. It happened in Iowa 6 or 7 years ago.
This has only happened once in all of history. The truth is that most people could bare handedly kill a Coyote. It's like a Leopard killing a Lion. Sure it could happen, but it would be a once in a blue moon event.
@MarynMunchkins Really?.. Tell that to the 9 y/o girl killed here in Iowa killed by yotes about 6 years ago. or to the early 20s y/o guy from missouri that got attacked last year. Only thing that saved him was another hiker who was carrying a gun came up. my uncle had one as a pet. Do not underestimate these animals. They are fast, strong and agile. If you go in the woods... Take a weapon! preferably a firearm.
too bad that the maritmes are now on a killing spree to remove the coyotes, man already removed the wolf a long time ago, the remaining wolves interbred with the coyotes creating the Red wolf which is really our eastern coyote-wolf hybrid. there are actually more people killed by dogs every year..one coyote kill per 300 years....do the math.. we dont hear about people dying from dog bites that much do we..??
Huh? Read an article in Outdoor LIfe several years back, said if we actually tried to exterminate them it would take 50 years.... Many have been trying.
@ApollonApostle wtf? nobody says oatdoors in Canada thanx, maybe you should take that cock out of your ear. I guess you Boston, Jew York and southern redneck accents are so much cooler huh? asshole
@ROTTIMAN31 Uhm, they did in this video. Apparently you didn't listen to it. Secondly, I'm not from 'Boston', 'New York', nor am I a 'southern redneck', nor do I like any of their accents. I'm actually living in Michigan, and people in northern Michigan sound a lot like people in Canada. Just sayin'.
@ApollonApostle No he didn't and no u don't. Are u seriously saying that a tiny state speaks the same way an entire nation does? funny yanks. Can u see where I'm going with this??
@ROTTIMAN31 Lol. This is silly. He clearly says 'oat-doors'. And Michigan isn't a 'tiny state'. And no, obviously they don't speak the way a 'whole nation' does. But they speak similarly to the Canadian area that's about a half an hour from where we live (I don't think you realize how close Michigan is to Canada?) Obviously, the further into Canada you go, the stronger the dialect becomes, but my mother is French-Canadian so. ;) He is definitely saying 'oat-doors'.
@ApollonApostle Dude you obviously are not picking up what I'm puting down and yes I know where michigan is. lmao It's your opinion about what he says and I'm not gonna argue about it.
Why did you remove your comment? I still got it via email. My dear child, Roosevelt did know about the coming attack. He wanted it to happen so he would have an excuse for WWII. I strongly suggest you follow my links and actually read my quotes page and don't raise your child in your ignorance. She deserves better, or at least she will if she grows past the slave mentality held dear by most humans. Most of the citiots in this country have ancestors who were hillbillies...
To all of those below, I was on a vacation when I posted these comments. I apparently unwittingly posted these comments using somebody's other channel on another computer.
Morons >>>>>coyotes have large home ranges and do not allow other coyotes on their turf . There is not an over population.....most of you people are very ignorant about wildlife biology .....idiots who don't think and rely on hear say
@bonnevie9 Actually there is an over population problem where i live because there are no wolves, thanx to humans. Coyotes come right into town here to hunt deer which are also overpopulated thanx to no wolves and elk(killed off by man)
Never hike, camp, fish or hunt alone...even though I live in Aus, we still have our nasties that will have a go at you, ie: dingoe's + ferals (cross-breds). I feel for her family (BF?) & friends, only 19...a young life being cut short is always tragic but a young woman, that cuts me!
Hope that they have found all the others and destroyed them?! Remember, never go it alone and carry a bloody big stick!!!
And to the ill informed: Coyotes were never placed here by national resources or government to control the rabbit population. The coyote migrated here and will continue to migrate into your backyard if let be.
All you heard was only 2 deaths on record from coyotes....Well theres been over 150 attacks in the last 40 years. Not great numbers ,but its increasing big time. There has been numerous close calls. How would you feel if you went for your walk along the highway and 3 coyotes follow you for 5 minutes till scared off by a car??? There will be continued close calls and attacks until they fear humans and guns.
@IglooDweller Size varies by region. They're usually from 20 to 50 lbs. Attacks are generally rare, since they're shy animals. In most cases, they can be scared off pretty easily. That's why this attack is especially shocking. Coyotes can live almost anywhere since they're very adaptable. Their range has dramatically expanded over the last century due to the extermination of wolves who were their primary competition. They came to the eastern US as pets which either escaped or were set loose.
Coyotes are not indiginous to the Maritimes they eat everything and anything. Thier favorite meal is a young fawn or moose calf still in the mother. they follow the mother until she ready to give birth and then they eat them both alive. Sound gross? well it's true. And if they get the chance they will eat you too. I shoot evryone I see and hunt them year round. they are like the plague. We used to have lots of rabbits and deer and grouse now there all gone, even the moose are getting scarce
@fundyfrog The more you shoot, the more pups they drop, each litter. They are an adaptable breed, but where live is made tough for them, as in catching bullets in a certain area, they tend to avoid. So it's the best option to plink 'em.

I don't understand the problem. Sorry tree huggers but they cross my path they are history. If you want to be coyote, bear, cougar food leave me know while you are being mauled and I will let them eat you. Just kill them as often as possible and they will then keep away. They are not cute little puppies so whack um.
It is very sad for the loss of this talented girl, many blessings to her family and friends. But human kind can only take so much land before we leave no homes for the wildlife animals out there that have no shelter and no food. Coyotes ARE a big nuisance but all animals need to survive too. It is not the animals' fault. We need to respect the fact that it is in there nature to hunt and prey and we should try to avoid invading the bit of land they have left. God Bless Taylor Mitchell.
Coywolves are a new adaptable super predator that are evolving to take advantage of habitats and food sources other carnivores have avoided--human settlements and humans.
I agree with KarasuKohai. And it doesn't seem to matter how much wilderness they have out there,it won't stop them from coming close to town or into your back yard. They can have huge litters of pups so double the trouble next year and so on.I live on the edge of town and notice a lot of coyote tracks this year.Cougars are a problem too that's just getting worse here in south eastern BC.
Eastern Coyote are bolder and larger because they are part wolf. The live in Boston, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, West Roxbury. They have been seen on streets in daytime. They attack house pets & children! I believe they will attack human too if they have the chance. They are in Franklin Park & Arnold Arboretum! Keep your pets inside! Don't let kids play outside alone!
Coyotes have over hundreds of years migrated eastwards, interbreeding with wolves and domestic dogs, increasing in size and losing their natural fear of humans. They aren't native to this area, and breed like vermin. Definitely not the cute cuddly disney animals many would have you believe they are, we aren't encroaching on their territory they are invading OURS.
how can you say they are invaiding our territory? that is completely anthropocentic. humans are the ones stepping out of bounds and destroying any thing and everything in reach, ever expanding with an unquenchable bloodlust. its sad she died, but how many species have we humans caused to go completely extinct?
@jonnyrevolto, I'm saying they are invading our territory because they ARE. They are not indigenous to Eastern Canada, like I said before they have gadually spread eastward, becoming a huge nuisance.
I live in the Adirondack Wilderness of New York State, about 30 minutes from the Canadian Border..... Fish and Game have confirmed that coyotes and wolves have inter-bred.... and the coyotes are much bigger, and bolder..... God bless this girl and her family
I wouldn't be suprised if she died and the coyotes scavaged on her. I'm getting to where i don't believe people these days. Coyotes can get pretty big though. Like an average german shepherd
who is the bands manager? its his job to keep bad things from happening. why wasnt he keeping an eye on her? jeez, lettin the kid go in the bush alone!! damn careless job!
bumblin........what?? you actually defend the twits who let her wander off? i suppose if you were a band manager youre boys would be in some bar while the fans are gettin cranky waiting for them!
Killing an entire pack does no good at all, I can understand killing the animal in question; since it's obviously learning to lose fear/gain aggression towards humans. Yet I disagree with them killing it just because it killed a human, but on the other hand if it attacked a human, it is highly likely to do so again. It's just that killing an entire pack solves nothing
In the end it was just a misfortune accident. There have only been 2 recorded Coyote deaths in America, this being one of them.
Why the crap did they have to go and shoot the animals? They always kill bears when they attack someone. Any bear will kill you if you fuck with them, I guess we need to kill them all. Just fucking stupid
up heer in saskatchewan we know how to deal with wolves and coyotes that come around, shoot the gun in the air and if they dont run off you have to shoot tthem.
"Eastern coyote descended from western coyotes. On the way east, they interbred with wolves in northern Ontario\Québec. So eastern Canada coyotes are actually a coyote-wolf mix(wolf's hunting prowess+coyote's adaptability to human activities).Eastern coyote is somewhat larger than its western ancestors because of its wolf blood. They arrived in Cape Breton Highlands National Park by 1981"they have adaptibility to human activites +hunting skills of wolves, maybe they evolved, however may she R.I.P
Mmmm. I guess the intellects of wokpitt and job1181 are self evident. 'Yee-hah, jess dow no me ass from a hole in the groun!. Is it any wonder that Al Quaida are trigger happy. These boys deserve to be cannon fodder. Obama? do you know what you've let yourself in for? Representing these people? Aw shit man! And no I'm not canadian, I'm a Brit. We do history...an' we know!
I live about 30 minutes from this park. Our coyotes around here reach 80.lbs or more. They are not scared or intimitated by humans. They enter our back yards in broad daylight. These are not 35.lbs coyotes that your goin' to kick around.
This has sent sorrow threw our communities. We have been worried about these coyotes for many years. Maybe now something will finally be done.
God bless Taylor. Have a heart folks. Keep your crap to yourself.
Something will be done? How can you try to reform the natural habits of wild animals without... removing them. I'm not sure what you're advocating but I know even Taylor Mitchell would have vouched for the safety of those animals.
We are not about to elimate the species. But we can make an effort to elimnate the ones which are in the low lands near communities. This is not something that has happened over night. We are not on a rapage due to Taylors death. Its more like the straw that broke the camels back. Coyotes are not native to this area. More like a plague that has spread. There has been many close encounters that have luckily went the other way. Our children are at risk here. They come into yards like wild dogs.
Yes...very much so. I don't want to be graphic, but the paramedics ended their shift earlier. It amzes me how some people can make lite of the situation or make jokes about it. Such a sin and horror . I so wish I would have been there that day or anybody else. A second person would have made the difference.
Which was my point earlier. Little girls should not be walking alone in the woods. Didn't her mother ever read "Little Red Riding Hood" to her? And we have wiped out the coyote's natural predators such as the Eastern Timber Wolf, allowing them to spread. I agree, in areas of human habitation, we need to cull the coyote population. I would suggest sending them Acme products...
WTF, how do you get killed by coyotes?

@jh1keener New York state and California have stricter gun control laws than Canada. Your move.
severedtesticles 2 weeks ago
@severedtesticles Conceal carry licences can be attained in California & New york. . . and you can carry in national forrests there . . . win.
jh1keener 2 weeks ago
@jh1keener we're allowed to own full auto weapons in Canada (albeit with very tight restrictions) How about Cali and NY?
severedtesticles 2 weeks ago
@severedtesticles i live in ohio. we are allowed to open carry without a permit, can own a full auto with a license. i prefer my bolt action rifle over a full auto anyday killing a coyote at 500 yards is better than spraying and praying.
jh1keener 2 weeks ago

Grungadin 1 year ago
@Grungadin Well, I don't think anyone deserves to go like that. Sure, she could have done things differently and maybe survived. I just don't like it when people call someone who died and idiot. Any one of us could be in a situation like that, we don't know how we'd react unless we were there ourselves.
hundredand 1 year ago 14
@Grungadin
SkrPchr3 11 months ago
@Grungadin - you say "she had it coming" ? what the hell is wrong with you? did it occur to you that her family and loved ones will read what you wrote? you don't care? have some compassion. it's all too common for people to point fingers and blame.. but you went way too far with that comment. thousands of people walk in bear and mountain lion country ever day and don't even see a bear.. how could anyone have predicted that she would be attacked and killed by coyotes?

* R.I.P. IglooDweller 1 year ago

This has sent sorrow threw our communities. We have been worried about these coyotes for many years. Maybe now something will finally be done.
God bless Taylor. Have a heart folks. Keep your crap to yourself.

Which was my point earlier. Little girls should not be walking alone in the woods. Didn't her mother ever read "Little Red Riding Hood" to her?
