  • I'd much rather watch this guy than David Hasselhoff anyday

  • How does he feel "Alive" at all???

He's just touching his legs and flailing his arms.... great voice but bad performance :/

  • It was a joke people, move on! XD

  • how did u get this recording? wish i could see more of rob's performance

  • Why are there seemingly naked women behind him the second half of the song?

  • OOOOOOOKKKKKK! But y??? HOFF SUCKS!

  • I really like the dancing girls in the back, it really adds to the sexiness and the devinace of the song. They're great additions

  • I just want to know where you got this from! Can you purchase the Rob Evan version on Dvd? Is there a place to view the whole performance?

  • @honeyhoney010 I have uploaded some more from this tape on my channel. It was filmed on the 29th of December 2000, when Rob Evan was the alternate to Hoff. He had previously been the lead actor. It cannot be purchased as it was never made official, it was just a rehearsal to the dvd with the Hoff. If you wan't I'll send you the download links to it.

  • @scumblejack Wait, he wasn't the alternate 2 hoff. he left the cast for jack wagner 2 join. he was the alternate to Cuccioli in 97 & 98.

  • @Broadwaypuppet He was first the alternate on the US Tour. Then he was the alternate on broadway until he took over from Cuccioli. Then, he left and Jack Wagner took over. Then Joseph Mahowald was the alternate until Rob Evan become the alternate again in late 2000. Rob Evan was the alternate to the Hoff for a bit.

  • @scumblejack OOOOOOOKKKKKK! But y??? HOFF SUCKS! XD

  • @Broadwaypuppet Broadway thinks that casting celebrities will make a show become really popular. But, it's the performers who get the least praisw who are best. For example, Rob Evan and Chuck Wagner.

  • @scumblejack AMEN FOR BOTH!

  • This is an awful representation of Rob Evan. He is SO much better than he looks like in this scene. Im almost embarassed, seeing this and knowing how good he is.

  • Hasselhoff is better

  • Who did record this? The Broadway Television NetworK? So is there another full record of the show with Evan like that of Hasselhoff? Or did they just release the one with Hasselhoff?? O I would kill to see the entire performance of Rob Evan!!

  • @KathyGeinLecter Yes there's a full record of the show with Evan (during a rehearsal I believe). PM me :)

  • honestly hassle hoff isnt as good a singer

  • What video is this taken from? It's too good quality and has too many camera angle changes to be an amateur recording...is there a DVD of this? Because the only other one I know of is Hasselhoff, and although I'm not one of the Hoff Haters, I do prefer Evan's version of the role, so could you let me know where this is available if you know?

  • @RichieEastside yeah, that's what i was thinking! i want to see the full one with Rob in it.

  • Amazing. Better than cuccioli

  • I love him! He doesn't feel the need to be overly angry/crazy/mad - he does a lot with simplicity! Wonderful.

  • I. Love This Song!

  • love it. so beast

  • where did the name edward hyde came from

  • Also something I would like to know.

  • not sure where edward came from..but my guess on why hyde is his last name though is that hyde sounds like 'hide', and edward hyde lives deep inside jekyll. the name jekyll was derived from the french word Je (I) and kyll sounds is similar to the english word 'kill'. pretty clever, eh?

  • "I kill and hide"?

I don't know if Stevenson meant to do that, but I like it.

  • i'm only guessing on the hide part...but on 'I kill'..i'm positive about.

  • Well,

the only evidence in the book is that Utterson says something along the lines of "Very well, if you are Mr.Hyde, then I shall be Mr.Seek!" when trying to hunt him down.

I think Stevenson just went for the obvious, Hyde - Hide.

...Of course, we could always dig him up and ask.

  • To answer your question, I think it's as simple as Hyde being the evil side of man that society of the time was doing its best to hide. I believe someone once used the pun "If he will be Mr. Hyde, then I shall be Mr. Seek"

  • @shademaster24601 i think it came from the pun that if you say it merged into one it sounds like ed-would-hide. Im not sure, i could be completely wrong

  • Whoa! Nice song. Its so funny how he kisses a dancer at the end!

  • its the character Lucy, a big character in the play.

  • I still love Anthony Warlows version.

  • Very good performance.

  • I like this guy! He sounds like a good Hyde.

  • He's really good! I especially like the "I have a thirst that I cannot deprive" bit (at :27) and the last note he hits sounds great.

  • I saw Rob Evan in a concert about a week ago. He is so good for this role. He can do the put-togetherness of Jekyll and the insanity of Hyde. Plus his voice has just the right tonal quality.

  • Rob Evans is SOOOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN THE HOFF

  • Hoff is an abomination

  • hoff should kill himself, anthony warlow was the best though

  • Hey now. Warlow's version is my favorite as well, but you have to admit playing Jekyll and Hyde is really tough live on stage. Especially when he did Confrontation, I was really impressed. I've seen a lot of actors need to record their lines as Hyde and only sing as Jekyll because of how hard that scene is. So don't be hasselin' the hoff. xP

Rob Evan is my favorite performer. Warlow is my favorite singer. I want to see Warlow perform it sometime.

  • yeah evan is amazing, i worked on a local production of jekyll and hyde and they had a second person dressed up as hyde standing in a "mirror" for confrontation, but it worked and was really cool

  • Oh, really? That sounds awesome. But Confrontation is seriously a bitch to do. I know by experience, lol.

  • yeah i wish i could sing like that...hyde is amazing, the guy who played it in the local one did it with a sort of growl in his voice, awesome

  • Like, Cuccioli-growl? Or Bach-growl?

  • dont know how to explain it properly...he just hit the notes with a coarse voice

  • I can't find any actual performances of any songs of Cuccioli or Warlow doing songs from Jekyll and Hyde, just studio recordings, and those style's are definitely different in quality and should never be compaired! So I really can't say who I like more since all I can find is Rob Evan's performances. And Hasselfhoff doesn't even count because he was a mistake being put in that role, even there director said that.

  • Warlow didnt even play jekyll and hyde on broadway............there are clips of Cuccioli singing this is the moment, dangerous game, and take me as i am

  • Much better than The Hoff, but so much worse than Cuccioli.

  • Agreed.

  • Yeah, I don't think his voice is powerful enough for this role.

  • He's not bad. But I like Anthony Warlow better. I just wonder why Warlow never performed the role on Broadway.

  • @lisar915 Well, he's from Australia. Maybe he didn't want to be away from home that long.

  • @lisar915 He had lymphona in 1996 I think and has been in remission for years.

  • @scumblejack thanks for the reply. I hope he stays in remission.

  • @lisar915 Cause he's bald. Can you just imagine Transformation? "I live inside you forever." *switcj

hes to Jekyll* *hair flips off into crowd* "NOOOOOOO!" ... On second thought, he should do it.

  • @RyuuzakiCandyAddict they used a wig on hoff, they could of used a wig on warlow.

  • @RyuuzakiCandyAddict But they had a bald Sweeney Todd in the revival? xD

but yeah, they'd probably give Anthony a wig if he did Jekyll and Hyde

  • Wouldn't have been more interesting to have Jekyll as unkept and unclean as a true scientist would be, and have Hyde as slick and put together? I know he is supposed to be the embodiment of Evil, but Evil is rarely so conspicuous and pronounced. Just a thought.

  • Hadn'1t thought about it, but I agree. Evil is always more tempting.

  • Hyde represents all of the negative aspects of evil. His dark and ugly appearance is the physical embodiment of the dark and ugly nature of evil itself.

  • Come on Hasselhoff, you don't have to call yourself porkhunt. We all know it's you and not just some 18 year old tool from Australia.

  • I saw them both LIVE my friend. Hoff could not hold a candle to Evan. Hoff's version is a culmination of 6 performances and major studio sound editing. Evan's is a one take performance with ZERO editing. Sorry but Evan was the real Broadway talent.

  • Was this version ever put on DVD, or is the Hasslehoff one the only one on DVD?

  • Anyone know where I could find this full video?

  • fuck no. Rob Evan is amazing. he goes so much farther into the character than cuccioli or warlow or hasselhoff ever did. it's not just about having an amazing voice (which he obviously does), it's about the acting! the complete derangement! he's a genious.

  • Do you have the reprise?

  • Hyde Likes to Kill alot of people doesn't he.

  • Man I wish I could see his reprise again...

  • i think Hoff did a better job of this scene. but that's just me.

  • i agree with you,,,he look crazier,,,,better acting too,,,,

  • There are only a couple notes in this song that I think that Hasselhoff can hit better than Evans. Evans is so much more sinister and natural it's astounding. Definately my favorite Jekyll/Hyde.

  • Do you have the reprise of this song with Rob Evan? I know it was up before, but might have been taken down.

  • I agree this part is spoken too often, anthony warlow is the best Jekyll/Hyde

  • I don't like how it almost seems as if he's speaking each phrase. Cuccioli's and Warlow's were much better. Although, Evan is totally amazing in the Resurrection version.

  • Dude, This hyde is freakin' awsome. Rob is HYDE! My god. He's so freakin' scary, and its so good.

  • It's a pity you can't see our Russian artist Aleksandr Domogarov when he plays this role! His skills are much better! And in our perfomance Lucy is really beautiful, slim, young and has wonderful voice!!! I think all who have seen how they play can't help but appreciate their talant

  • Rob Evan seems so much more sinister as Hyde. I dunno why but he seems that way.

  • Anthony Warlow to me will always be the best Jekyll and Hyde next to Chuck Wagner.

  • I wish someone could post Rob's alive reprise. He owned the final note!

  • It used to be up. Not sure what happened to it.

  • Every video I've seen from this production, be it hoff or Evan, the tempo is just way too fast. Seems to have an adverse effect on both of them =/

  • Okay curious, is he the original?!

  • nope, robert cuccioli is the original

  • hmm..I want to see a video of him....

  • Good luck, I have yet to find one... He is the best though, I have the original cast recording.

  • German Version is MUCH better than Broadway!!!

  • This is Hasselhoff. It's from the video they recorded of him.

  • This is Rob Evan. It's from the video they broadcast of him.

  • Okay. This is Rob Evan. I should know. I met him after he was in Les Miz in Rochester, and again, after he alted for Jekyll&Hyde on Broadway (I refused to see The Cooch). This IS Rob Evan. You need to learn your voices. Plus, Hasselhoff is a butt-ugly spaz who can't sing. Rob is neither.

  • Hasselhoff doesn't look at all like this. He's a terrible actor/singer.

  • Give me one GOOD reason to choose Hasselhoff over him as J&H.

  • Could you post it more??

    whole show please!!

  • I don't like that version because they LOOP the two Alive's together and I think it's WAY better to separate them because he ends up killing that bastard in the Reprise which makes the song way more powerful.

  • In the German Version there's the full Alive and after taht as the final of Act 1 theres a reprise of the second part of the song ,too while Hyde kills the Bishop.

  • This is a dumbed down version of the script. There are two other versions of this song. In one, he is on the prowl in the streets of London and he meets Lucy. In the other versoin, which I prefer. He has just met Lucy at the Brothel, she runs from him in fear, and he sings this song whilst fighting bouncers!

  • The choreography for this song is extremely disappointing. here's a guy singing about how a feeling of maniacal life is rushing through him and he barely even moves!

  • In my opinion everyone who has seen the German Version must admit that it is much better.

  • he sounds like he's eating. Holding back or something, i prefer david.

  • after seeing hasselhoff's performance it feels weird to see a man play the part who's not stereotypically model material. but wow this is great
