Nobody is "refused by every private insurance company", only the companies in their own state. Allow the purchase of insurance across state lines to increase your options. With tort reform you might actually be able to pay the bill without insurance.
I've had Insurance my whole life. I'm a small business owner & was on my wife's policy at a large bank. Last year, they closed the mortgage dept so I've been using COBRA (it runs out for me in Dec & is more $ than my mortgage, but I've been paying it!) I've called all of the insurance companies available to me (United, Blue Cross, Aetna, Humana, etc.) & they refuse to offer me a policy due to pre-existing conditions. So, yes, I have been refused by every private insurance company in my state.

We need reform that includes a strong public option which provides an additional coverage choice for all Americans. Anything less than this is a recipe for M.O.T.S. The Federal Government is responsible for much of the health care problem so I think it is stupid for anyone to think that more government is the answer to anything other than more problems than we have now.

I used to help alot of people unselfishly until I got sick with a mystery illness since 04. I lost near all I had and credit gone. Not to mention UT state trying to generate counterfeit money for child support. You try getting a correct diagnosis when your health is being held for ransom. And you are shot down for medicare because you haven't paid the diagnosis premium in full yet. Mine is up to $30.000. I miss helping others . Maybe this is hell on earth for me and others.

Nobody is "refused by every private insurance company", only the companies in their own state. Allow the purchase of insurance across state lines to increase your options. With tort reform you might actually be able to pay the bill without insurance.

I've had Insurance my whole life. I'm a small business owner & was on my wife's policy at a large bank. Last year, they closed the mortgage dept so I've been using COBRA (it runs out for me in Dec & is more $ than my mortgage, but I've been paying it!) I've called all of the insurance companies available to me (United, Blue Cross, Aetna, Humana, etc.) & they refuse to offer me a policy due to pre-existing conditions. So, yes, I have been refused by every private insurance company in my state.

We need reform that includes a strong public option which provides an additional coverage choice for all Americans. Anything less than this is a recipe for M.O.T.S. I've been single-payer for 10 years and job- for 6. When I was 3 weeks into radiation treatment blue cross/shield pulled a fast one on me. When it was apparrent i would be sick, we started paying my premiums in 3 mth spurts instead of 1. They refunded a part of it one family member wrote to another one. The moment it was cashed, they dropped me in 24 hours(PRIORITY mail). I was too sick to fight. U shouldn't need 2

TX Medicaid system only will help me NOW if I get pregnant. To me, I would rather support one person, rather than them and their child they cannot afford. For me to get pregnant would be an act of stupidity/desperation due to lack of health insurance. My severe Narcolepsy with Cataplexy, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Chronic Lymes Disease, and Diabetes, I did NOTHING to contract. Pregnancy, except for cases of Rape/Incest is self-caused. Why only help the pregnant?

I think a government option is exactly what we need to keep the private companies from abusing us. If you think the private companies are really so great and don't need to change, well then they should far surpass the government option and squash it. If the government option interferes with the private companies, well.. then maybe the private companies need some to be interfered with. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain here.
