  • I went into Joann's over thanksgiving break and had bought some blizzard fleece because it was on SUPER sale, but then I read that it's not great for a liner. It's good for covers although it might cause leaks. The lovely lady at the cutting counter told me that they don't carry microfleece, but she showed me where the suedecloth was! It's actually over by the costume fabric, I think she said it was called alova or something. It's not listed as suedecloth on the website, but it's there!

  • omg I was feeling the same way with breaking needles and foe and how it took forever too. I almost gave up on it but the longer you do it the easier it gets and the better you get

  • Your best bet is to buy some fabric online. I have not had great luck with fleece from stores. The blizzard fleece will make a decent cover, just double layer it.

You can do a water test with the other fleece.put some water on it and see how long it takes to run through.

celticclothswholesale and wazoodle are great websites for diaper fabric... Good luck, your covers are adorable. Where did you get your waterproof material?

  • I'm impressed with your first try! Such a cute diaper...I know that we are most critical of ourselves but give yourself a break! That's an awesome little cover. :)

(Yes, the leg gussets are supposed to be sewn in but they look like covers I have bought; kind of bunchy.)

  • you did a good job for your first time but with gussets you can youtube a bunch of videos on those and will help you out

  • your so crafty! I wish i was!! those look great for your first time!

  • Those look awesome for a first try

  • Any fleece will wick the moisture away from babys bottom so you will be fine using what you bought it is just a bit thicker than microfleece. Try getting your diaper fabric on line. Its often cheaper. I get all my fabric on line. Good luck with your sewing.

  • you did an amazing job! they look great!!!

  • I just looked at my thirsties cover and the gussets are sewn in to keep the link contained. It does sorta bunch. Not sure about the size of them though. I think you did an amazing job on them!

  • Also, I was having a lot of trouble with gussets on my diaper covers so what I did was ordered a diaper online that had a gusset and looked to see how they did it. I ordered a Thirsties but any diaper cover with gussets that gets good reviews will probably work alright. Then you will kind of get a better idea of the size and technique.

  • I think the fleece has to be really thin and the anti-pill might be too thick. The microfleece I bought online was WAY thinner than the fleece I bought at Joann's. The best way to know for sure I think would be to test it. Put some absorbent material underneath a piece of the fleece and drop a little hot water on it. If it goes through then I think it'll be okay. If it doesn't then I wouldn't use it.

  • Wow! Those turned out great!! I wish I knew how to do that!

  • my congratulations on your pregnancy, so happy for you!!!

  • wow you did such a great job already!! :)

  • I am also going to be sewing my own cloth diapers. My husband and I are already using "pocket" cloth diapers. LOVE THEM. So I will be making pocket ones with snaps cause I am not a fan of velcro on them.

  • well...you did a good job...and YES I believe that looks right as far as the gusset being sewn down, it does look odd but as far as I know (via my pattern)its right. I have researched the fabric for the inside and I have used the no pil fleece..altho.. you can leave the cover with just the pul and use the prefolds inside without a pocket. Ive made inserts with the no pil fleece, microfiber combo. I make them 4 my friends babies and no complaint so far. Good luck. your doing great! LOVE the owls!

  • Such a great job on the diapers!!

  • Wow good job...your diapers came out awesome.

  • Yes it can be used

  • Alova from joanns.... crushed panne velour too

  • You will figure it out...I think you're awesome for taking on such an endeavor. Definitely make a video after you figure it out, and perhaps I will try a few. Prefold diapers are a gauze fabric I think, but I haven't ever seen that to buy. By the way I am super jealous of your beautiful long hair!

  • you did a pretty good job I couldn't even do that!!! what does your tattoo say on your wrist?

  • @ljewkes breathe

  • @MandD627 oh what does that mean to you?? that's cool I want one on my wrist too...

  • They gussets are suppose to be sewn like you did on the second cover you made. Also, that is the correct fleece! Diaper Sewing Divas and Diaper Swappers can help you out with any sewing or cloth diaper questions you have! Good Luck and your covers are addorable!

  • awww the owl fabric! i love it!

  • Looks like your off to a great start, the diaper cover you made look fantastic!

  • Mandi, I love your diaper covers!!!! So adorable! I think they look fabulous for you just beginning. Glad all is well.
