Card Tricks: The Thumb Fan

THUMBS THIS UP. He doesn't say this but the other fingers (middle,ring, and pinky finger) actually have the role to make the cards shape into a nice fan instead of just turning the entire deck. As you start to spread the cards with your thumb, try using your other fingers with the hand holding the cards to spread them out as your thumb is moving the cards. Start hard with your index then your middle and so on. keep practicing until the fan looks legit.

One important notice, deck is everything. I have an old deck (cardboard) that won't fan, and a new full plastic deck(fourier), which also won't fan properly, cards wont spread correctly.They keep clustering.

But with a new Tally Ho deck it's easy. I guess also bicycle decks preform nicely. Not an ad but im just saying fans should be rather easy to preform with a correct deck.

If you repositioned the camera so it faces upwards toward the bottom of the fan, you could show the closing move a lot better.

@MrCardtricks21 Right handed people should do the fan just fine, it's left handed people who usually end up getting a blank fan. If you're right handed, you should be holding the deck in your left handed, and vice versa.

I hold it with my right hand naturally so its a blank fan it it looks bad compared to the left handed fan :P

i actually have a question, should this be harder for someone who has smaller hands? and if yes do you have any advice? i know to do card tricks its ideal to have larger hands but i cant help that i wasnt given some haha. so im trying to apart alot of things to myself, so any advice would be great :D

@fmalover4 Hand size shouldn't make a big difference when it comes to this move. I have small hands as well and it has never prevented me from learning anything in card magic. It probably made some things a little bit more difficult but definitely not out of reach. Good luck!
