Fuck sake, I have noticed, not just WoW and Warhammer having a popularity fight, but also 40k and Starcraft. Why don't you just fucking accept that they exist?
@DoomhammerHabbo i agree. warhammer is as gritty and dirty as it gets, but if you play it enough it just gets downright depressing. the good guys might win half the battles if they're lucky, and no matter what, there is always a tougher badass than you. WoW is great for taking a breathe of fresh air and just enjoying the game, and starcraft is great because of the tactical thinking necassary to win, and the fact that eveybody loves having carrier fleets and swarms of fully upgraded zerglings.
Well..i think WH sold its ideas,and subscribers for a pieace of profit..open realm battles needed more investments in bigger and better servers..soon after expirienced huge lag ppl start leaving back to wow. Why didnt buy better servers or why slower down existing ones ..all matter of house politic and profit! Dont live in lie!
what I don't like about WaR though is that you have to worship Tzeentch as chaos. I think the game would be better if you could choose your god. just my opinion though.
I've played both WoW and WaR (i even had a lvl 80 on WoW). and I can honestly say that I think WaR is better. but I am also a big fan of Warhammer and Warhammer 40k so that contributes to that.
I never see WoW fans complain about how much the War game sucks, the WaR graphic is emo and shit, good MMORPGS should have silly graphic and happy. War did not care about making RP, Chaos are just boring, good and evil humans.. comon,,.. 1 human race is enough. and in wow you have fully control of what happens next to you, your allies, you can see the details on how exactly your targets look because you see their faces, in war they show the mark of the class which sucks ass and makes it annoying
they should make a total war style game for warhammer that would be so awesome just taking my hordes of chaos across the entire planet and having full siege battles would be cool

@agarside1000 sorry to burst your bubble, but WAR (as in the game Warhammer Online, not Gmes workshop and all that) has a tiny fan base and subscription base compared to WoW. But if your comparing all video games, Warcraft 3, Starcraft and Diablo 2, not to mention D3 and SC2 coming out later, Blizzard games are over all easily more popular then the Warhammer video games. I'm not making a comment on which franchise is better or worse, simply pointing the error in your statement.

A large portion of what Blizzard does is stolen from other companies. Blizzard just makes games that work well (but without much innovation) and markets these games extremely well.

And it's not like warhammer is a fountain of originality. Empire and Bretonnia = medieval Europe, Orcs and Goblins = Tolkien, Elves = Tolkien, Vampire count = pre-existing vampire lore, etc etc
WAR isn't a bad game, but unfortunately it doesn't 'work well' compared to WoW. Though personally I prefer WAR anyway.
@Pandemonius88 It's not like Blizzard was original with it's game mechanics either. Look back at the older MMOs like Everquest and you'll find that WoW really isn't that original. However, I do believe that WoW works better than WAR because it uses tried and true methods. But WAR is so much more original with new ideas like public quests, and the player versus player, RvR, is just done beautifully. It's just an opinion though.

Despite that I still find myself switching between WAR and WoW in terms of what I play, so that shows WAR's design and style alone can distract me from the combat issues. Warhammer Fantasy came first. Warhammer 40,000 came out later in 1987. They are two separate universes. Though the Chaos Gods may actually be the same since they can effect different realities.

Siege weapons have been sought after by players and "in development" by blizzard since the original game went into production during the time before WC3 raid of chaos was released. They just never really got round to it before. Plus, WAR is PvP, WoW is both PvP and PvE rather than predominantly the other way round. The only thing that WAR does better than WoW is... there are no rogue stealth classes to STEALTH>STUN>STUN>DEAD you.

Hilarious! ESRB Content Rating rates this vid as 'mature', blood and gore and thereby 17+. 17 years and older! From which planet do the people of ESRB come from? Send them an Imperial Commissar to show what blood and gore is.
Goverment Departments only require a cert of any level of communication to work at, and people who work there are often snobbish morons. Some 30 year old mother of 2 was prob given the job to rate it. More often then not both in the case of the ESRB as well as the Australian board of Ratings personal opinion weighs on somethings rating which I think is unfair.
There are only 4 good games that ever came out for GW's licenced products, and that's Space Halk, Dawn of War, Final Liberation, and Warhammer Online. All the rest seem to lack, not graphicly, not content but more or less gameplay, more often then not either too short or not reflecting the fluff completely, GW's licence IP restrictions are not restrictive enough.But GW themselves have stated its hard to convert a unvierse designed for turn based to real time without some changes and rebalances.
Basicly if it looks Warhammer, sounds warhammer, and all the names are reflective of the right units, eg. Space Marines are Space Marines, not Fluffy Smurfs on steroids, and Priests of Sigmar are called Priests of Sigmar and not "Paladins" etc. Games Workshop give the go ahead then after that all it is to them is advertising and some minor royalty on the side.
I was a closed beta tester, and played it until November.
I could go on a long rant about how bad WAR is, but let me just put it this way - The game peaked out at 700,000 subscribers. It's now at less than 300,000. That means that in the few months since release, more than half of its player base quit the game due to its grinding repetition, faction imbalances, or just plain disgust at the shoddy client and sluggish, unresponsive gameplay and combat.
People quit because they got tired of the bugs, and the game being limited at launch, don't blame Mythic for this, EA rushed them (like EA always dose to everyone because their evil) to release the game to compete with Wrarh of the Litch King (like any game could pull away WoW's fan base, I really think EA's marketing department are morons). Most of what wasn't in the game that made people leave is being fixed in patch 1.2 and follow up patches. BTW WOW was worse when it first released.
Oh and another thing, it's the job of the beta testers to report errors, not cry about them and storm off because they can't have their fun playing a game before it's released. Hello that's the job of a beta tester, you get to play a game pre-release free in exchange of reporting errors. <_<
I reported errors and shortcomings constantly, and some rather game-breaking bugs remained in the game for weeks.
Also, WAR isn't competing with WoW-at-release, it's competing with WoW today. Of course it's not going to be as good as a game that's been out for four years, that's why people should stop making EQ-pattern MMOs.

I liked this game and it's expansion...It's much like the Total War series with a touch of warcraft 3 (the heroes) It could have been much better though if they have worked more on the cutscenes and the animations of the units...

Well, Requiem Bloodymare is a new free online game same (if not better graphics than WoW) bloody 18+age new bloody MMO really fun, its already pulled more than 1/30 players from runescape and world of warcraft to it, but this game will blow all of those out of the water but....AION is going to beat warhammer hands down, if you dont believe me look it up.

but one thing i totally hate about these mmo's (both WAR and WoW) is that they don't have international servers :| i wanna play with my euro buddies
also WAR is more pvp oriented it seems, right? I like PVE a lot and story n stuff

I said international server(s)... meaning you'd get to choose to play on an international server if you wanted to. I have lots of friends in Europe that I play mmo's with so I see nothing stupid in it at all.

most of warcrafts story is ripped off of warhammer (admittedly by blizzard), and warhammer has things like public quests that're a bit better than grinding kills to level and never having a group until your max level

blizzard at some point in time wanted to join up with games workshop and make a game or sumthign games workshop said no fuckoff so they go and rip off starcraft(good game though) all the races are nearly the same with new name, Tau=protoss tryranids = zerg terreans= marrines

Um....alright, first off do you realize that the WH40K franchise existed way before starcraft? 1987(wh40k) 1998(starcraft). Unless you're agreeing with me... I really can't tell by the way you write, so if you're saying starcraft was ripped off of warhammer 40k, yeah, you're right, if not then no, warhammer40k came out 10 years before starcraft

Siege weapons have been sought after by players and "in development" by blizzard since the original game went into production during the time before WC3 raid of chaos was released. They just never really got round to it before. Plus, WAR is PvP, WoW is both PvP and PvE rather than predominantly the other way round. The only thing that WAR does better than WoW is... there are no rogue stealth classes to STEALTH>STUN>STUN>DEAD you.

Warhammer online is pretty good but it doesn't come near wow, especially after cataclysm.
overall WoW still has the best MMO experience and it always will be because blizzard has the funds to back their game up. WoW is blizzard's main game but WAR isn't EA's main game, therefore it could never beat wow

Goverment Departments only require a cert of any level of communication to work at, and people who work there are often snobbish morons. Some 30 year old mother of 2 was prob given the job to rate it. More often then not both in the case of the ESRB as well as the Australian board of Ratings personal opinion weighs on somethings rating which I think is unfair.

There are only 4 good games that ever came out for GW's licenced products, and that's Space Halk, Dawn of War, Final Liberation, and Warhammer Online. All the rest seem to lack, not graphicly, not content but more or less gameplay, more often then not either too short or not reflecting the fluff completely, GW's licence IP restrictions are not restrictive enough.But GW themselves have stated its hard to convert a unvierse designed for turn based to real time without some changes and rebalances.

Basicly if it looks Warhammer, sounds warhammer, and all the names are reflective of the right units, eg. Space Marines are Space Marines, not Fluffy Smurfs on steroids, and Priests of Sigmar are called Priests of Sigmar and not "Paladins" etc. Games Workshop give the go ahead then after that all it is to them is advertising and some minor royalty on the side.

I was a closed beta tester, and played it until November.
I could go on a long rant about how bad WAR is, but let me just put it this way - The game peaked out at 700,000 subscribers. It's now at less than 300,000. That means that in the few months since release, more than half of its player base quit the game due to its grinding repetition, faction imbalances, or just plain disgust at the shoddy client and sluggish, unresponsive gameplay and combat.

People quit because they got tired of the bugs, and the game being limited at launch, don't blame Mythic for this, EA rushed them (like EA always dose to everyone because their evil) to release the game to compete with Wrarh of the Litch King (like any game could pull away WoW's fan base, I really think EA's marketing department are morons). Most of what wasn't in the game that made people leave is being fixed in patch 1.2 and follow up patches. BTW WOW was worse when it first released.

Oh and another thing, it's the job of the beta testers to report errors, not cry about them and storm off because they can't have their fun playing a game before it's released. Hello that's the job of a beta tester, you get to play a game pre-release free in exchange of reporting errors. <_<

I reported errors and shortcomings constantly, and some rather game-breaking bugs remained in the game for weeks.
Also, WAR isn't competing with WoW-at-release, it's competing with WoW today. Of course it's not going to be as good as a game that's been out for four years, that's why people should stop making EQ-pattern MMOs.
Why don't you make some more stupid assumptions?

I liked this game and it's expansion...It's much like the Total War series with a touch of warcraft 3 (the heroes) It could have been much better though if they have worked more on the cutscenes and the animations of the units...

to the chap who asked if his PC will be able to run this game: ofc NOT.
ihave 8800 gts(which is faster than 8600), dual core pentium 2.6(which again is faster than dual 1.6) 2 gigs of RAM(same), and windows xp(which are better at game framerates than Vista of course).And still, in major battles it lags like shit, when many units are onscreen.Yes , u will be able to theoretically RUN this game, but does it rly matter if u cant play due to framedrops?

Mark of Chaos is an RTS (real time strategy) while Warhammer Online is an MMO. You can't really compare games from two different genres ;P

Well, Requiem Bloodymare is a new free online game same (if not better graphics than WoW) bloody 18+age new bloody MMO really fun, its already pulled more than 1/30 players from runescape and world of warcraft to it, but this game will blow all of those out of the water but....AION is going to beat warhammer hands down, if you dont believe me look it up.
