Still kind of surprised me that Golts didn't do a better job of trying to bridge out. But I guess it's not as easy as it looks! She probably knew she would have lost her footing if she tried, and maybe would have looked silly?
I don't think she's afraid of looking silly. If she were, she wouldn't get on a wrestling mat to begin with.
Shoda probably had a hold on her that was just impossible to bridge out of. If Natalya could have bridged out, she would; I know because I've seen her do it lots of times.
@freestylefan1 First of all the "chicken wing" that Shoda used was an illegal hold. You can't pry the arm with your hand towards the head. Shoda's arm &/ or hand has to more perpendiculare to Golts' body. That hold was potentially dangerous. The ref should have stopped the match & a possible penalty assessed. Golts should have tried to bridge. She layed there at first then just barely lifted her hips off the mat. She also should have started bridging early -as soon as she was being turned over.
@freestylefan1 Did you see how Shoda's hand was pointing towards Golts' head? It was unimaginable that the ref did not stop the match. It was gross to watch. I used to wrestle in high school. At one tournament a wrestler was trying to apply the guillotine by putting his opponents arm behind his head & leaning back against the joint. His opponent was eventaully pinned because the ref did not stop the match when this dangerous hold was applied. That kid's arm was wrenched for almost two minutes.
That was spectacular upper body control of Golts by Shoda...at 1:53 she gains control over both of her arms and when she tries turning her over toward the right and Golts responds by leaning left, Shoda just hops over her and uses Golts's own momentum to turn her left for the pin. Brilliant. Shoda looks almost in a higher weight class here, though. May be just more muscular than Golts.
@WomensWrestlingFan Read my responses on this site in regards to Shoda's illegal chicken wing. Golts would have never turned her over if the ref was paying closer attention to the illegal hold. Obviously these ladies are phenomenl wrestlers!
Shoda make with Golts what she want, Golts have absolutly no chance aginst her. It´s nothing with russian superstar Golts, all action comes from Shoda, Golts have luck that she not get hurt thru the huge japan killer lady.

@BRIAN195799 Thanks for pointing this out. I guess even Natalia can't bridge her way out of an illegal hold.

@BRIAN195799 I guess those international referees are not what they are cracked up to be.

Wow, what happened to Golts? I guess Shoda was better...at least on that day. That was an unexpected pin. Very good, though.

Hard to explain. Natalya is great, but very uneven in performance sometimes. Japanese are more consistent if less
brilliant. That's what I would say anyway.

Actually the match is pretty even, no score, until 1:45 when Shoda
clamps on a killer hold and turns Golts over.
