It's a bit of a high risk move as the face is very open to a follow-up punch, but it does mitigate the kick damage and take the fight to the ground. Most kick heavy artists, the kind that would attack with a kick instead of a punch or take-down, will not fare well on the ground.
i do not agree with this but you have to love the people that say " teakwondo is the way and you wont stop their kicks. they spar every day!!" who cares teakwondo does not practice real situations !
@enotsfreak right ,but muay thai and mma actually does..and there we´d never use that defense,it´s still too slow and you could only use it when the roundhouse comes too high (or too low) and hits your shoulder or upper chest..nobody aims there
and the attack would have to come from a great distance (as shown in the video)
you would have to drop your guard completely,WHILE GOING IN THE ATTACKERS PUNCHING RANGE
Iam have seen this video whith a friend en try this slowly meany times.
1 year ago into the city at night there was some one that wants to fight.
That boy want to do a kick by my and it was just a moment of a second that i remember this video. I take this in reality, And it works for sure. This boy did nothing more when he stays on the floor............ Thanx voor showing........
@Kyosuke180 yes but if you verse heavy kickers like in taekwondo then you might come across this seeing as how thats how their sparing works and how most of them are trained
Dude you're exaggerating. The fastest roundhouse kick was by a taekwondo master, clocking at 136 mph. 500 mph is a little too fast, don't you think? Pls check your sources before you post a comment. Thank you. By the way, i think Ben Foster was the one who kicked it. Check wikipedia. 500 mph is not feasible by any human. I think only Chuck Norris or Superman could do that. Or Charlie.
@MysticSeireitou So you are saying that someone can bridge the kicking distance with his kick in less that 4 microseconds resulting in a kinetic energy of 200 kJ or more, which is more than the kinetic energy of a car moving at 30 mph, right? That's totally ridiculous...
It doesn't matter how fast you are. A roundhouse kick done by a true professional can snap instantanously, especially Taekwondo experts. Even with this technique, the force of a Roundhouse kick can be disastorious. One done by an expert can go up to 500 miles an hour. Even if you catch it, it WILL hurt you badly, and I doubt its worth it when the opponent will still have their hands, and especially won't be good if you have multiple attackers.
I wonder if it really would break his arm ...he is doing a little irimi to avoid (and disperse the power) being in the "kick strike point" ....I mean.... the kick loose power when you have to aim in a diferrent place of what you aim in the begining...maybe I'm wrong :3
try that against a trained karateka would be etremely dangerous, you'd be kicked in the chest first, then he'd withdraw his foot in a short movement and strike you in the head with it in less than a second.
i have a quesrion i think im going to begin taking aikido i box but i wanna try something new in aikido do they also teach you how to kick and punch or only locks and takedowns
@12345678ix Aikido is almost all easy grappling. Not real fighting? The comment below is retarded. If you want a kicking and punching art take Isshen, goju or shoryin ryu, or kyokushin. Those are the best arts for striking, as muay thai is pretty watered down these days. aikido is a very good art though go for it take one.
Great kick defense! I'm a little worried about the wrist technique you showed though... I'd like to see more capturing of the thumb... I'm sure you out rank me O'Sensie, but I'd like to discuss it more...
Make sure you have a closed blocking hand on their k nee else you may get your fingers severely flexed. I learned the hard way. A closed fingers palm strike, or a hammer fist works best.
What about a low kick?

minench21 10 months ago
No, not really. 500 mph is the minimum speed of an average Roundhouse kick. It can actually go higher if done faster.
MysticSeireitou 1 year ago
@MysticSeireitou 20-30 mph idiot. that fast and you would cut the person in half with your kicks. and never be able to stop yourself.

Ooo! This looks totally good!
In a kick, all the force comes from beneath the knee, if you catch it at the knee it completely removes the kick.
I never use roundhouse kicks anyways though, throwing myself off-balance doesn't sound like a good way to win a fight.
