Ms. Anderson sung this on the radio on the night of the D-Day invasion in Europe in 1944. It always brings a tear to my eye when I hear it, as it's like she is singing all the brave boys who will not make it back home to heaven as they liberate the world from Hitler
I am so glad that she came into the world blessed with a voice that made you hear heaven in it. The joy this song bring me when I hear her sing I travel places 'like green pasture.
Im an atheist but this is fascinating ! Lyrics; Ave Maria Gratia plena Maria Gratia plena Maria Gratia plena Ave, ave dominus Dominus tecum Benedicta tu in mulieribus Et benedictus Et benedictus fructus ventris Ventris tui Jesus Ave Maria Ave Maria Mater dei Ora pro nobis pecatoribus Ora, ora pro nobis Ora ora pro nobis pecatoribus Nunc et in hora mortis In hora mortis, mortis nostrae In hora mortis nostrae Ave Maria!
Marian Anderson, Leontyne Price, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaugh, and Mahalia Jackson. Five ladies with different music styles and music from different categories,Classic, Jazz and Gospel. Yet they turned the world upside down because they sang with feeling, joy and love. They sang from the heart.
I first heard this on a PBS special some 15 years ago, fell in love with the piece and with Ms. Anderson. An exquisite lady, an exquisite piece. I still find it tugs at my feelings, my being, my soul everytime I hear it.
@dwymer86 Wow! Where has this lady been all my life? Her clarity of voice is seldom heard and not all singers can emote, really sing with emotion and feeling without compromising the music. Her "Mon Coeur....." gave me chills.....would that I could learn and sing this piece that well!!!
I found this record in vinyl in some of the old boxes in the house and I listened to it and fell completely in love and the very next day it slipped out of my grip and down the floor and broke in half... God damn it I was mad but then I found this clip. THANK YOU uplouder!
