  • So guys I heard it's radi-cool bananas to ragalag on hiphop and the cats who dig it, for yos.

Except it just makes you look like a tool. Painting anything in broad strokes is a cognitive misstep and advertising to the world that you're prone to arrogantly doing so just exposes you for either the dick, undermatured teen, or undereducated intellectual plebian you are.

  • i see people here talking stupid shit about kanye west having no talent... wtf? and they also talk about hip hop being something only the talentless listen to ... well if you dont like it then fuck you that's it.

You don't like poems? you don't like Goethe? well they are legends for doing poetry, but there are some hiphop artists which do just that in modern times and combine it with great beats and music... and you just don't get it. you guys are so superficial what's up with u?

  • @LeeTheShogun hahahaha really? Comparing Goethe to Jay-Z? ayou are so stupid, I dont know if there is any help for you....whats next?: Rick Ross is a modern day Shakespeare? hahahahahahahaha

  • fucking impossible to play the drum part alone

  • simply impossible to play.. imma try cygnus bookII again D:

  • great song men

    :D

  • itt; old people whining about the younger generation.

  • Does anyone know the name of the guitar at 2:30?

  • @samar2501

that is a bass my friend

    :D

  • @samar2501 That my friend is a Spector brand bass guitar... P/J configuration

  • As a 21 year old with no parental exposure to such music, nor musical background, I believe Fripp is one of the most ingenious musicians of all time. So glad I found these guys in my teen years.

  • @TheBoomstickhero and @Madoculos and anyone talking about Kanye.

You may want to note that this is a King Crimson video, this has nothing to do with Kanye nor his music, so kindly fuck off with the Kanye and talk about the music on this page which is quite epic as it goes.

  • That album cover still scares the shit out of me everytime I look at it.

  • While laughing my way through the Rush documentary, I thought, aside from Geddy Lee's unbearable voice and the awful lyrics, don't they realize why so many people still hate them? They have no melodies. Things you can sing without a bunch of dicks flailing away. King Crimson grabbed me when I was 13, cause they have actual tunes, underneath the virtuosic playing.

  • @peterzang no melodies ? you probably should listen a lot more to 2112, especially the Discovery and Presentation part. I can’t help but sing when I hear Xanadu, or Subdivisions. And of course, 3:44 to 4:25 on this video is melody ? I call that noise, sorry, I prefer Geddy Lee’s voice a thousand times than this.

Now, about King Crimson, I must admit that I clearly prefer In The Wake of Poseidon than this one

  • 21世紀の精神異常者? それってどこかの国の政治家のことだろ? でもいい曲だな・・・

  • i was brought by Let3 version of this song

  • grat greg lake on bass...here at the top

  • metal evolution brought me here. I've known about them for a long time now, but never listened to them. but when they played a clip from this song on that show, i just HAD to come and listen. I'm thinkin that if all their tunes are this good, they just might become another one of my favorite bands! i might even try to cover this song myself

  • @boomhauer15 same here then i find out some producer used it in his song

o well this kicks so much ass

love it and all the song to the right-->

i wish i was old and lived through this time period

  • Damn, I didn't know Greg Lake sang and played bass on this song. That makes it 100x better.

  • CDs are the shit!.. I wonder what happened to mine?..

  • This song is genius, wonder how long it too to rehearse a piece like this to do it live. Fripp's bass is key!! So much turnover though with many of these progressive English bands and it hurt momentum. By far the group's best work!!

  • @EnlightenedRogue Yeah this song is a masterpiece! The bass player here is Greg Lake, not Robert Fipp though.

  • So only because Kanye West is a famous Hip-hop artist in the 21th century, he had no talent ?

Grow up a little a go listen to his album before judging...

  • @carraldo791 He admits to auto-tuning his voice which therefore means he has no talent.

  • @FitnessExtremeVideos I don't think Greg Lake's voice is natural here... Also, this guy can sing, he used autotune because he wanted it, not because he needed it, only in one album because he wanted to show his emotions like this. Exactly like in this song

  • never mind the squabbles. what a tune and what a band. theyve been a bit forgot about as prog is so uncool now because of the excesses of the likes of ELP etc.... King K rule

  • Prog Rock at its finest!

  • thumbs up if youv seen "thats life" foundation vid

  • amusing the both of yous & yous know who yous is.

  • remember seeing them in conn as a teen in the seventies with both quicksilver and believe it or not pink floyd... iit was great!

  • oh king crimson why u not on itunes.

  • @chip6134 KC's current record label hasn't handed out download rights to anybody. They distribute on CD/DVD-A and vinyl only, except for archived concerts and stuff like that. They've had problems with former labels offering up tracks online they no longer own.

  • @chip6134

Yeah it's such a shame to actually have to buy CD's......

    kids these days.

  • @MrWingsfan13 Hey I'm 19 and I have like 70 CDs. Not all of us are like that lol.

  • @Ryu12543

Well I'm glad I'm not the only teenager(19) that still buys CD's

  • @MrWingsfan13 Me too(19)

i cant stand itunes buy a song on itunes is like buying just the nose of mona lisa

too bad i can't find this piece.

  • @MrWingsfan13 HEY! Dont generalize. I buy around 3 vinyls each month, I'm what you'd call a "kid" :)

  • Anyone who prefers any version of this song to the original should go immediately to an audiologist.

  • @warnedkerzner How does an audiologist help people with incompetent ear syndrome exactly?

  • @voltronsky perhaps cochlear implants...

  • who's Kanye West?

  • @romaneberle i maybe wish i didn't know..... =[-;

  • Holy shmowzow. They're great musicians.

  • I don't care about the crap going on in this video...I'm just listening to the music...

  • Maybe your are all stupid, the man that put this here in the first place said pretty freaking clearly..

    STOP TALKING ABOUT KANYE!!!!

    Well...I don't know Spanish....

  • YESSSS !!

  • I meant to type Jayaet on the comment below. Sorry!

  • Jayant, I'm glad you asked that question. Tony Levin (used to play for King Crimson and Yes), Alan White(was the drummer for Yes), and David Torn(I think he used.to play for Talking Heads, just like Adrienne Belou. I know spelled his name wrong.) This project was done more or less for themselves, BUT they wanted their fans to enjoy it. The album is called Levin Torn White. I think you'd really like it as much as I do!

  • It still sounds so raw and original, like an artist throwing paint at the canvas, or something. I like to think I'm an open minded guy, so could somebody tell where can I find such (rock musical) originality today.

  • King Crimson is badass, and kanye west is cool too, but for a completely different reason. At least you know he has good good taste in music because he sampled it

  • Awesome song. Can't believe that the music today is such shit compared to this. Fuck Justin Bieber in the arse.

  • @4021971 , listen crackhead, there's many a tune I liked back then and now and this band was way nutso to me and still is. I still have bad vibes when I see this album photo.

  • @rmtmiller That's your problem. There is a lot of great music now, but none of it gets any airplay. This song was once on commercial radio, nothing like this will ever be on radio again. BTW, Why so angry?

  • Thumbs up if... wait, we don't care. This song is a motherfuck**g masterpiece !

  • who is kany and why is he annoying?

  • one of the best albums of that era. spent many sleepless nights up listening.

  • @erkokki56 ლ(ಠ_ಠლ) Y U B TROLLIN!?

  • Thumbs up if King Crimson brought you here...

  • @shotguy1 Nope, Venture Bros.

  • @gamemeister27 I just watched that episode as well. I stood up and shouted 'Fuck yes!' when Dr. Venture tells Dean that he's not ready for this kind of music.

  • OMG, I haven't heard this in YEARS.... This is a great song. I really love the ending. This I call is TRUE Music to my ears! :-)

  • I really love Horn music in rock music.

  • Chill out ...u Cocka do dadle doo

  • @ClassicRockMan95 oh you delightful troll you

  • @jbassman666 I know right?

  • Wow, end of this song!

Btw Camel brought me here, you might check out Focus a 70's dutch prog band, maybe you guys know it. grts!

  • @Damce This, this, THIS! I found both Focus and King Crimson at the same time, and love them both. I've listened to Focus FAR more, however. I listened to Eruption (the 23 minute version) twice in a row and everyday that week when I first heard it.

  • STFU ABOUT KANYE STFU ABOUT EVERYTHING!

  • When this album came out (1969!) certain critics who hated rock music just for being rock music were fond of referring to complex, non-bubblegum material as "organized noise". In the bowed-guitar section and last seconds of this tune, Crimson was kind enough show said smug asses what organized noise really sounds like. Tight!

  • @LyraDove "organized sound".... I will keep this term in mind for future discussions with pop music fans. Thanks :D

  • According to Robert Fripp, this song was written with Spiro Agnew -- the second-in-command Dick Nixon thoroughly deserved -- in mind. I know, or at least I believe in my heart, that right now those two bastards are being forced to listen to this song at full volume in all of its gorgeous abrasion, chained up in a mosh pit in Hell.

  • this song is fucking awesome and even though i think kanye is kind of an arrogant douche, he sampled this song really well and definitely has producing skills.

  • @captainclayman Bullshit. Kanye is fucking incapable of pouring raw emotion into his music, and had to sample this song to pull it off, which was completely detached and out of place. This song took on a character and aura that gave off the feeling they wanted naturally. Kanye can only talk about it throughout the song. He can't even do that without slipping in something about 'haters'! This song is powerful and timeless. 'Power' is weak and fleeting.

  • dont act like you dont know... its power lol

  • In what song did kanye sample this?

  • @apetrohilos I believe it's called Power.

  • I don't blame the rap guy for using this song. It's not like anyone is able to compete with most genius musicians. Might as well sample their work because you lack the creativity to compete and come up with your own sound.

  • kanye west? stop talking about that trash on a king crimson video please

  • This song is waaay ahead of its time :P I luff it.

  • Wait... do you mean Kanye West? O_o

WHO THE HELL WOULD COMMENT ABOUT A DOUCH LIKE THAT TO MUSIC LIKE THIS?!?!?!

  • if video games brought you here, then you should stop playing video games and listen to good music instead.

  • @ZehBunnyWabbit Who gives a fuck? Get a life you asshole and let people find good music however they please, even if it is through a game.

  • @chaosdisc i have a great life, and im not an asshole actually

  • didn't anyone think that maybe the reason kanye west sampled this song was because he loves it and he wants his fans to love this song too?

  • Yes! I mean, "YES!" was the only other band in the '70.s that TOOK me somewhere!....thought, epiphanies...

    Love the British steppin' out!

    I'm 49...

  • @Skinnyoompalumpa are you pre-op or post-op?

  • @Skinnyoompalumpa

I'm sick of fans of Kanye West acting like Kanye has any musical talent. Don't excuse yourself with the "music is subjective" nonsense, because although music is abstract it is still very clear what sort of music puts emphasis on talent. I'm not saying by any means that all hip hop is garbage (the overwhelming majority of it is), I'm saying that Kanye's music clearly is tailored towards extroverted partying people who don't mind simplicity as long as they can dance to it.

  • @TheBoomstickhero

Music is art. art is subjective.

If you disagree with that you must be some kind of autistic nerd.

  • @TheBoomstickhero Though people are entitled to believe what they want to, and are entitled to what they want to listen to, you are absolutely right about how some music is more oriented around talent, precision, and compassion, while other music is merely made for dancing, and falling flat in meaning, and heart. Then again, music is subjective.

  • @TheBoomstickhero How dare you have an opinion on the internet, Especially something as moronic as that. You've probably just listened to fucking goldigger and act like you "get" hip hop. Well I'm sorry but you don't perhaps if you listened to the most critically acclaimed album of the 21st century. Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy you would no that. So fuck off and go and make another generalizing comment about something you don't understand and embarrass yourself furthermore.

  • @TheBoomstickhero

The socially conscious stuff is fantastic. Brand Nubian, Dead Prez, Chuck D, IMO.

  • @TheBoomstickhero yeah but i do give props for kanye with being a producer. In that area he's a genious

  • @TheBoomstickhero Kanye West is a talentless sellout uncle tom for Jay-Z's masters: the Illuminati.

  • @JUSTuntil2012 go ahead and try to do something like he does! oh you can't? why can nobody do that... guess you're the one without talent here

  • @LeeTheShogun hahaha there is always some moist kid that thinks they know something- and today, YOU are that moist kid. What does he do? LOL! really? what?? REAL musicians dont even acknowledge him, and hip hop artists look at him like a cornball. But let me guess- you have a poster of him over your bed. Jay-Z and Kanye are washed out 40+ year old rappers with no talent and they rap about dumb shit. "JAHOVAH!" ?? hahahahahahahe's gay, you're gay. case closed.

  • @TheBoomstickhero

You've summed it up brilliantly :)

  • @bluemoonrising26 no he hasn't... he's saying just garbage o.O wtf is up with you guys?

is you say kanye has no talent... then go ahead and do those beats, make songs the people can relate to. go ahead and produce something like my beautiful dark twisted fantasy... oh you can't? oh that's sad! : (

    fucking bitch

  • @LeeTheShogun

You come across as being a little unstable. I'd suggest you see a shrink.

  • @TheBoomstickhero I do hope you know, that you're wrong. Subjectively of course.

  • @TheBoomstickhero

Doesn't listen to Hip Hop, then has the nerve to try and decipher talent in a field he knows very little about.

You like King Crimson? cool, me too man

  • @TheBoomstickhero eh you're wrong bitch, kanye is the total opposite of songs without meaning and you can dance to.

you dont know anything about hip hop oO there are many people like kendrick lamar, kanye west of course tupac etc.. they make music which is more relevant than probably any other kind of music...

how can your shitty comment have so many likes what is this bullshit oO

  • @Skinnyoompalumpa yeah man these people are idiots. I like Kanye West and his use of this song was in my opinion excellent. I'm not a big fan of that style of hip hop but he's great. and I certainly don't hate people for liking that style, they're welcome to like whatever they like. music is art, have respect for all of its forms

  • @Skinnyoompalumpa Excuse me sir, but I will decry what other people like, not because I don't like it, but because it's shitty and only propagates this notion that shitty is the new awesome. Kanye West is terrible. Always has been, always will be. He is a child trying to be an adult. What the idiots are saying is partially true; art is subjective, as are tastes. But fuck, the hypothetical music museum is lined with the musical equivalent of finger paintings and whittling forks.

  • @hirothedragonking

To you, to other people it's genius.

and it's miss, thank you very much

  • @Skinnyoompalumpa In the English language, the male gender is applied to that which is of unknown or genderless, and clicking on your name to find out your gender was entirely too time consuming for a "four hundred characters or less" response.

And it's those who think it's genius that are tainting the genre by promoting it and asking for more, by the way. "More auto-tune, tasteless sampling, and high school love letter lyrics! More! More! MORE!"

  • @hirothedragonking

Newsflash, people like different things than you. I hate Shah Rukh Khan with a passion, I think he is the most overrated Bollywood star around but I don't call the people who like him stupid, because I'm mature and grown up enough to realize that people are allowed to like what they want and being a jerk about it isn't going to change anything except make you look foolish

  • @Skinnyoompalumpa Honestly, I'd go as far as putting a bullet in the head's of the record label executives, putting a knife in the chest of the shittily popular pop artists, burning the original recordings, and executing Simon Cowell on American Idol, but obviously I don't have the power to do that, so I can instead only be a jerk.

  • @hirothedragonking

Threatening death to people who did no wrong. Congratulations you are not only an idiot, but are a psychotic one as well.

  • @Skinnyoompalumpa To be fair, Kanye west does have more style than than most of the other shitty hip-pop "artists", though not by much. Most of what I've heard is more repetitive and tastelessly bland than it is original and thought provoking. I heard 'Jesus Walks' and thought that maybe Kanye was different. Then I heard the rest of the album and thought "fluke".

  • @Skinnyoompalumpa Kanye West is a bold hooker!!

  • does every fucking rapper steal the content of other songs so they get attention because they have absolute no talent

  • Run around nekkid beating people up with a giant purple didlo

  • @Dayntei lol saints row 3 right

is this song in it i dont have it yet if so thats awsome

  • @Dayntei Oddly enough, that's the first thing I did on Saints Row 3.

  • Comment removed

  • I am a big King Crimson fan..can someone please suggest some other great Prog rock bands..I already know Yes and Rush..I don't care if whatever you suggest is from the 70s or now, Beardfish is a new band but they are great prog. Please just suggest a few bands or albums, thanks !

  • @K3VIN552 have you tried emerson, lake and palmer? they where a supergroup of prog rock muscians formed from members of king crimson, the mice and atomic rooster, you should give those other two a look aswell.

  • @K3VIN552 marrillion,the strawbs, and of course peter gabriel's genesis...f%#* phil collins.....

  • @K3VIN552 oh yeah, i forgot jethro tull, remmember we're talking all thier early works......peace...

  • @K3VIN552 Dream Theater, no question. They're more prog metal, but they're still amazing. Images and Words is the best. Also Octavarium and A Dramatic Turn of Events.

  • @K3VIN552 check out gentle giant if you got the time. hard to put them into a genre but if you like King Crimson you might like them aswell and they are also creative geniuses

  • @K3VIN552 here are a few:

    Genesis (Peter Gabriel era)

Devin Townsend (albums: Biomech, Terria (this one is a bit more prog metal-esque))

    Tool (mostly Aenima)

  • who names there kid kayne? king crimson is much better

  • Could anybody explain to me why is this song a polyrhythm?

It can be counted 4/4 am I right?

  • @riqyl32 a polyrhythm is two separate rhythms being played at the same time so, in a way yes if you look at how Greg Lake plays against what Fripp and McDonald play during the Mirrors section. I'm not totally sure of the definition of a polyrhythm, but parts of this song definetely fits most of the defining traits of a polyrhythm

as for the time signature, the begining and end is in 4/4 and the middle section is 6/8

  • @jbassman666 In the beginning, the riff lasts two 4/4 bars. In the first bar the emphasis is on the 1st and 3rd beat (witch is usual) and on 3 and a half they play a dotted quarter chord witch fills the measure. In the second bar they play two dotted quarter notes and one quarter note ( 1,5+1,5+1=4).

The thing is that the drums follow the guitar, putting emphasis on the same beats so the rythms seem to match...

P.S: Isn't it awesome how much we can discuss a single song? King crimson magic!

  • @jbassman666 Who cares? Listen to the music.

  • @jbassman666 polyrhythm is two different rhythms playing simultaneously, It is normally shown in Ratio e.g. 3:4; a Rhythm consisting of 3 beats per bar (3) a Rhythm consisting of 4 beats per bar (4).

  • @jbassman666 6/8 nice bounce, that's why hiphop producers (the few good ones) us also 6/8 and 3/4. They also take the adsr they used in rock from the 70's.

Too bad it's all about Loudness Wars these days in music production, so less bounce.

  • @Damce Yeah that whole loudness war gets pretty annoying

    no dynamics, just volume

  • @riqyl32 The drums are playing a different rhythm to the other instruments my friend.

  • What about just listening to the music, enjoy it and stop bashing other music genres? No one cares what you think of electronic music or hiphop. Music is universal,we dont need any definition of "true music" and "today sellout music".

  • great song and who the fuck is KAYNE WEST?

  • if you all reflect to kanye under this video (it doesn't matter is a good reflection, or bad) you have the massive connect in this song an the "power". dumbs :)

  • OLD TIME KING CRIMSON THE BEST

  • Prog Rock at its finest.

  • WHO THE FUCK IS A KANYE WEST? IS IT A RIVER?

  • I love King Crimson and KW. :)

  • Guys, the dude who's talking about Kanye West is just jerking your chains. It seems that there a group of trolls who are doing the same thing to a bunch of different band's youtube pages.

  • Wait don't tell me another rapper ruined a good song D:

  • Comment removed

  • Would be great as a James bond movie opening theme!

  • @shyamhk I've always thought that.

  • stop comparing kanye west with KC, "power" is a good song, but 21st century is a masterpiece!

  • I'm 14, fuck Kanye West. King Crimson is the shit <3

  • why does the name of a terrible rap/hiphop "artist" have to litter the page of the video of this mind-blowing song? sad, just sad... SHUT THE F**K UP AND LISTEN TO THE MUSIC!!!

  • 4:40 to 5:20 best part!!!!!!!

  • excellent fusion of acid jazz and prog rock! KC were geniuses! everything sounds really solid but I really like that brass section :) and I don't even want to know who the F this wanker called Kanye is...

  • I'm giving you 6 stars****** for this one Thank you for having it & for sharing it with us.Sounds as good now,as it did all those years ago when it came out.

  • I've heard you guys might know who is Kenye West? I'm very curious.

  • @arthurude1 he's a musical genius. was able to cobine this with afrocentrist and do your thing by cold grits and make it all flow perfectly.

  • @vice2vursa Oh intredasting, i'll look it up. Thanks for the info.

I love to find out about unknown underrated underground artists like this Kanye West you guys are all talking about.
