It's to lay down the beat and melody with the keyboard, and hit the notes with a rotary button that is styled like a turntable; it essentially is a turntable, but behaves like a rotary button.
It's about hitting the notes to produce the music, and triggering samples and scratches with the turntable.
It's exceedingly thrilling and enjoyable. It's a musical sensation that allows you to use hand-eye coordination in way that matches music melodically and/or rhythmically in a DJ theme.
Hitting notes to score points and essentially play the rhythm or piano parts, and turning a rotary button themed like a turntable = fun.
The challenge and pure sensation of hitting buttons along with music is awesome, but when you combine the skill, accuracy of laying down the melody and/or beat, and having a turntable-themed rotary button to trigger other samples or scratches, it becomes an un-matched senstion, until Scratch: The Ultimat DJ is here.
That's probably the cost for the real Arcade Style ones. The one I'm using is just made by Konami, and made out of plastic for the PS2. With the controller and game, it cost about $40-50.
Isn't that how some real DJ's do it? I know crazy beatmania players don't have enough time to do it like that so they just use their pinky. I tried using it with the pinky but sometimes I miss because it takes more effort to turn.
Konami used to sell it for like $40, but now it's all sold out. You have to get it from Ebay or individual sellers. It's usually $50+ now... I have a brand new spare that I'm planning on selling some day. If you're serious about paying, I can sell you one.
haha I have beatmania, i hated it..it was fucking hard lol. plus the keys were too damn huge. x)

I think you're beyond the point calling yourself a beginner lol
I'd advise against scratching only on the same direction, since you'd have harder time dealing with scratch notes bunched up.

I don't understand the point of this game. To me, it has nothing to do with dj culture

Even then, this is still a VERY unique game with Scratch: The Ultimate DJ coming out.
This is what started it all, and it's still arguably one of the best.
This is probably more challenging than scratch, and unique in the melodic part.
Both look like incredible games, but Beatmania is guaranteed quality and unique, sensational game-play that no other game will beat.

will it come with the game?

Yes, it's a bundle set. It's US release and this video is from a Japanese beatmania game, so it won't have this song.
