I just downloaded the Bluebeard s/t and this song "Room 501" is amazing. It looks like they only made one album and a few eps in 2000 because I can't find anything else about them

The term emo really confuses me, since I kind of figured the point of good rock music was to express emotion, and I never know what bands are considered emo bands...but yes, those are two great bands. Also gotta throw out recommendations for Number Girl and bloodthirsty butchers.

Yeah it's a dumb term.

I dunno enough about music history to properly describe it, but in general I think of emo as music that often incorporates elements of hardcore punk but allows for more atmosphere, and vocals like this instead of just screams..Eastern Youth used to be hardcore punk but the way they started playing with loud/soft dynamics and softer vocals are sort of emo to me. but again, someone will probably disagree with me.

Why did they have to hijack emo? I remember when it was something positive, just to describe a genre of punk that was heavy but emotional and struck a chord with your soul... that you weren't the only one thinking about stupid things like heartbreak and existentialism. Melodrama is one thing, but good emo bands like these - the sound is honest assurance, comfort, and above all, release.
