The EU parliament has absolutely no power whatsoever. They are a bunch of elected people with no decision-making power, mostly responding to their national political party.
Who makes the laws (Regulations) is a commission of burocrats and lobbyists, whose laws are ranked higher than those of national parliaments, therefore violating the elementary concept of division of power and all constitutions of EU nations.

Countries should remain as nation states, not federal states, of Europe. Otherwise, eventually, one opinion will dominate - that's not terrible if the issue is minor - but European countries have experienced dictatorships/colonialism and the effects of that, either as perpetrators or victims of. Já mluvím spíš o jeho ''výletech'' do Dublinu podpořit Irská anti-EU referenda (to se opravdu nehodí), jeho proslovy před NATO a jeho známé výroky o globálním oteplování. Tím Čechy opravdu nereprezentuje dobře. Na druhou stranu ho musím nesmírně pochválit za jeho přísný a neústupný přístup k Lisabonské smlouvě, konkrétně k Benešovým dekretům. Co bych mu také vyčetl je arogance, ale s tím se budu muset smířit.

The EU parliament is not legitimate and it's members not democratically elected. It does NOT represent the peoples of Europe ( see last years verdict on the Lisbon treaty/constitution by the German Constitutional Court ).

According to that imbecilic principle we would have to form new peoples by putting all the people of the same genetic origin into one group. We would then have many groups and within each group most of the people would not understand each other.
E.g. we would divide Czechs in 3 groups and in one of these groups would have (part of) Poles, (part of) Czechs, (part of) Germans and (part of) Hungarians, all of them having nothing in common except (part of) genes!

What Kluas speaks is good however it is too late! Czech Republic is a banana republic with huge foreign debt (more than 70 billion USD). When Czech politicians voiced their concerns about the direction EU is going to (destroying the concept of national sovereignty) suddenly French and German high officials said that it was time for their companies to come back home. That would mean that these western companies would fire all Czechs in Czech Republic and thousands of people would be on streets.

you see we were allowed to vote years ago on the constitution, not the lisbon treaty. we were allowed to vote because our PM thought we would all comply. when over 75% of our population said no to what officially wasnt a refurendum (they asked for our opinion). if less people showed up to vote or the difference between yes and no was marginal the PM would have overturned it. now you see, we didnt get to vote for the lisbon treaty because the PM knew what the result would be.

EU is a Soviet Regime or very close to it. If continue so will be a full Soviet Regime. I'm from Italy and our economy its very oppressed by Eu colonialism. Its a regime, we dont want it and dont need it, not in such way. USA respect regional polics and needs like Roman Empire. EU not, its a comunist crazy way to manage economy !! EU recession its worse than American ones. WE should instead reinforce our USA alliance and relationship.

Countries should remain as nation states, not federal states, of Europe. Otherwise, eventually, one opinion will dominate - that's not terrible if the issue is minor - but European countries have experienced dictatorships/colonialism and the effects of that, either as perpetrators or victims of. The EU, at its heart, should be against ONE-WORLD-ORDER sydrome, otherwise it becomes its own poison - the very thing it claims to protect itself against.

Show me what country or union is perfect. Hence, EU is not flawless but still the best option. Had not we joined this entity, the whole centr. and east. Europe would be bitten off by Putin's agenda. You get to sometimes choose the lesser of two evils. Klaus is ridiculous. He just criticizes and mulls over the same half-truths based on his fabrications.He doesnt seem to bother with any solutions. He doesnt represent the general of consensus of Czech people. He was not elected by direct elections.

Its easy math. EU has always been a thorn in Russians' side. Klaus, too, is a fierce critic of a greater EU integration and moreover is a keen supporter of Russian influence in the CZ, which is borne out by some of his favorable comment and actions (see Georgia crisis, gas conflict, meeting with Russian agents, russian mafia). Russia tries to infiltrate my country and eventually EU to create economic and political ties so that she can eventually extort us. It tags together like a box of bricks.

Vaclav Klaus is the man. I wish other politicians were like him. I like the idea of EU as it was around 1992. Now some people have grandiose ideas that must be fought. Don't forget to ask your politicians why the treaty of Lisbon hasn't been thrown away when the Irish voted no. Do you know that the Irish must vote again? They will vote until the Irish vote yes...
Ask your local MEP if he/she what they think about that.

The President of the German liberal party FDP in the European Parliament, Silvana Koch-Mehrin, said last week : "if the EU itself applied for membership of the EU, it would be refused. The reason would be: no democracy".
A week later a report was leaked by a British liberal MEP showing that MEP's can pocket a million Euros from 5 years at the un-democratic EU "parliament" from scams/fraud/false bookkeeping.
Roll on June's elections...vote for anyone willing to fight the corrupt EU system.
