  • I love your layout. I'm just getting started on getting things for mine. I hope mine turns out beautiful like yours. :)

  • what is the name of the music

  • Very cool. I grew up in Washington Heights in the 60's-70's, A train territory. I loved the "skelly" board chalked on the sidewalk, very authentic.

  • just amazing...love this......

  • Amongst the best intercity modeling I've seen - great artistic and detailed results. Is your water from diffuser panels or silicone over a substrate (if you don't mind me asking)?

  • A Masterpiece! The Best train layout I've ever seen. Much Congrats. I feel I was transported back to NYC. Amazing details.

  • how do you manage to keep all the track clean?

  • Art,

That is the ultimate compliment to me. Thanks so much!!! If you need any tips send me an instant message, I'd be happy to help!

  • Amazing. I grew up in Washington Heights in the 60's and there are pieces of your layout that take me back to my childhood. A true masterpiece. I am now in Richmond VA and looking at a medium sized layout that captures some of the old brick, downtown, trestle style scenes. Inspiring work!!! Thanks for the look.

    Art

  • Simply BREATH-TAKING!!! WOW! This my friend is perfection! This is beyond museum quality and your attention to the finest details is mind-blowing. You my friend have mastered the art of model railroading.

  • I too, found 10 minutes flying by watching your video. a lot of great models here to see. A lot of memorable work has been done here. You my friend are the Camera's Eye to the past. Nice Work!! Used to live over in North Bergen jersey and I remember those NYC car floats and the last of those docks on the river. Had a friend over by Brooklyn Heights, got on the wrong train (drunk) and wound up in the Bronx that night, still don't know how I managed that trick, LOL. I gotta watch this again.

  • Nice! I especially love the el and the carfloat. It's giving me some inspiration for designing a layout of the Bay Ridge branch of the LIRR. I'll also be incorporating the Evergreen branch and the Myrtle Ave el.

  • This whole clip is a piece of unbeilvable mastery.

  • This off the charts. A pleasure just to look at. You should be very proud of your creation. Thanks for posting.

  • Lost for words . I take my hat off to you well done and thanks for sharing

  • All I can say is WOW! What materials do you use for the scratch built buildings?

Thanks for sharing this great video.

  • Wow,,, very nice....

  • thats amazing such great attention to detail good work what scale?

  • Fantastic tour! Thanks for posting it.

  • Hi im from the uk , im building a replica of the north london line station area i grew up in, in 'n' i also have a sound emu 501 train. fantastic layout you have there ,it looks so real, the detail is brilliant, well done my friend.

  • I found a website that sells a 3rd rail kit

  • Great layout, love the urban theme and soundtrack!

I don't like the world dance music too much, we can do music, the Deutsche can build.

  • EL TRAIN AREA COULD BE WEST BRONX; WATERFRONT AREA COULD BE BROOKLYN.

  • 10 minutes that's ALL??!! Hell, I could watch this brilliant piece of work ALL DAY!!!! Greatest desire: build a Manhattan/Bronx O-Scale layout since MTH NYC subway trains are available in IRT/IND/BMT configurations AND Lionel R-16, 27, & 30s. But that'll have to wait until AFTER I become a millionaire (then I can add Brooklyn to the layout!). Until then, I'll settle for an N-Scale city layout of one of the boroughs or an HO-Scale layout since subway cars (NYC) are available in HO. Great job!

  • This is fantastic buddy I get a tour of the whole layout. So real and detailed. It is such a pleasure to view your hard work and to see it all here. Ty for sharing and this is great so proud of you and all the work you have done. :)

  • OUTSTANDING A+++++

  • Stupendous ! I grew up in Washington Heights and that hill reminded me of "Snake Hill" . Love the details, they're spot on, even saw the A@P !

  • 10 minutes never went by so fast! very nice attention to detail and weathering. I'm working on a midtown manhattan layout (n scale) circa 2010, and love the detail you have in your city aesthetic. would love to see your layout in person. is this ever on display?

  • @denverforever99

If you're ever in St Louis let me know. Have you ever seen CT Brimley's pictures on Flickr? Amazing N scale artist. He has some truly incredible scratchbuilt buildings that will knock your socks off. Another reference is The Great Scaper's pictures on Flickr. He kitbashes N scale buildings into skyscrapers. I'd love to see your layout some time. Post when you can.

Thanks so much for the comments!!! Happy Thanksgiving, too!

  • @subwayfx Are U kidding me only 5684 hits, are u hiding this video on u-tube???. Sub Damnnnnnnnnnnn u miss da Bronx, cause u took her ass with ya,to st.louis. and bloomberg wan't's her back. u have got to be a architect or u know somebody who is.and i've been to that street in the bronx with the curved hill, when u come on that block, can't remember the name.

  • Great Layout I'm trying to build a replica of my home city too.Chicago Illinois where I was born and raised. Was the Elevated piece hard to make?Because I'd need to do that to Chicago does have a subway system.I love your layout.I hope to see more of it.How did you do the water?

  • @cbnut81 Thanks so much for your comments. Coming from a city boy like yourself that means a LOT to me! ;)

I have a "recipe" that I can send you for the water via a personal message, if you like. As for the el, I can walk you through the process when you're ready. I have not written down the process for that yet, but I should. Anyway, I'll send a friend invite and the water recipe. Thanks again! I appreciate it!!!!! :)

  • Absolutely awesome. I grew up in the Bronx Pelham Bay line and had relatives all over town so many rememberable views. Thanks so much for bringing back the memories. Stick ball and scully!!! wow. I remember the 7 Santini Bros for movers. Went to high school at 161st street near Yankee Stadium. Again thanks for your hard and talented work.

  • @GerryTS22

Wow, I went to Cardinal Hayes. Is that where you went? I used to take the #4 from Burnside Ave down to the Stadium. :) The Santini Bros. warehouse was just up from the Stadium and I can remember seeing the sign.

It is truly the greatest compliment I can receive when someone who has grown up in The Beautiful Bronx tells me I got it right. So, thanks very, very much. It means a LOT!!!!! :) :) :) I raise my Yoo-hoo to you, sir, as I toss a Spaldeen in your honor! :) THANKS!!!!

  • where did you get the bridge type thing that the subway runs on, sorry i dont know the name the bit which runs over the road

  • @infernodood3

I used parts from two 1:87 scale manufacturers (Micro Engineering and Atlas) and made it. It's four feet long and I am currently working on another 8 or 9 feet extension of it.

  • that is one awesome city layout!!!! thats years worth of work and hundred thousand of dollars!!!

  • Wow, you've done a great job re-creating this urban layout. I admire your large apartment buildings and the subway looks real enough to seem dangerous. A real "neighborhood".

  • man it is totally hot and i love it. i cant wait to get back to mine and redo the upper level sweet . love looking at it.

  • What elevated line is represented? I see the subway is the 6 train.

  • Absolutely outstanding. You did an incredible job on the underground station.

  • @Flatbedkw

Thanks very much!!! It is actually a 1' x 2' diorama that I later worked into the train layout. I'm glad you liked it!

  • VERY IMPRESSIVE AND AMAZING

  • IMPRESSIVE!! A lot of work has gone into your layout but I can see that it was all worth it! You've given me renewed motivation for my own township! Thanks for posting!!

    Five Stars!

  • @teddybeareleventeen

Thanks very much!!!! I am having an absolute blast working on this! :)

  • Really nice work. So, when are you going to get something in MR ?? 8-)

  • Stunning! Just Stunning! 5 Stars!

  • I like your layout!!!!:)

  • i like the bottle caps game in the street, have seen one of those in years

  • Wow dude! your layout is sick! What a masterpiece! 10/5 stars!!!!!

  • Congratulations ... Your recreation of NYC in the fifties left me speechless. So many little details ... The opening scene "under the El" could have been taken from a movie. Simply amazing ...

    Greetings from Belgium

  • Thanks so much for your kind words. I appreciate it! Happy Holidays!

  • Man.......This was a real Treat. Kudos to you my friend! You have done such a stellar job that words cannot describe. 10/5 stars......Dick Clark Rockin'!!!!

  • The clothes lines between buildings and roof antenna brought me right back to Bailey Ave.. And a stickball game ? Your subway station is extremely well done too.. Remeber the penny chicklet machines on the platforms ? My hat is off to you Sir !!! this is favorited and will definately be sahred... Thanks for the tour, I will definately watch it a few times and still see new details, I'm sure. This is so NY...

  • Bailey! I lived over the Punch Bowl bar at 238th & B'way from '73 to '80. Hung out with friends at 230th & Kingsbridge, shopped at 231st, etc. I'm really glad this brings you back, that's the greatest compliment I could ever hear, so thanks! As for O scale, you are in luck if you know the Artista Line of figures. I think they have pigeons, too, and a way cool hot dog stand like the Sabrett guys back in NY.

You just made my day, buddy.

  • I grew up there from '62-'73. We had the best of trains there, right across the street from me was the Degan, but past that was the old Put line which still ran some freight when I was a kid, then a 2 minute walk to Broadway & 225th gave you both what's now the MNRR tracks & the El with the lift bridge. It was a train nuts dream... lol

  • I used to walk the tracks into Van Cortlandt Park. There was a tiny station back then, falling apart. I still have an old spike from there. Thanks for sharing the memories and for making my day.

  • What scale? HO?

  • H.O. scale. The layout is 8'x10'

Check out pictures of it on Flickr under subwayfx.

  • looks like NYC when I use to live there

  • I'm SO glad to hear that. That makes me feel like I am getting something right here. Much thanks!!!

  • I love the details in this layout. Keep up the good work thanks for sharing 5 stars ROCKDOG5732

  • Thanks, buddy!
