  • Back when the show was good and starbuck had proper bollocks and was qctually good looking.

  • @CragScrambler One of the reason why the show crashed after the first season.Glen Larson wanted production pushed back one year in order to get the scripts right and to get the money needed to pay John Dykstra to do the special effects. But ABC said no,do the show quickly.Plus Larson had to deal with the lawsuit filed against him by George Lucas.Larson had Galactica written up in the 1960s,nearly 10 years before Lucas wrote Star Wars. There is a Battlestar Galactica movie of Larson's in the works.

  • Where's little Joe?

  • We need to do a Bonanza/Galactica spoof crossover for one obivous reason: Lorne Greene!

  • @redraiderredinLubboc Adama=Adam (his elder son in Bonanza) Keir Dullea guest starred in both series.

  • richard hatch was getting $35000 per show a record at the time dirk was only on $17000 so helft to become face last known salray $150000 per show on season 4

  • EPIC

  • I love both series, the classic and the modern (Caprica too)

  • GOD BLESS LORNE GREENE...HE IS AND WILL FOREVER BE...COMMANDER ADAMA!!! :) THE, AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN...THE BEST!!!

  • The one thing I have always waited to see and hope to see is This ship the 1978 Galactica, reach to a planet and begin for landfall as it passes through the planet's atmosphere heating up, and then you see from the land as the camera looks up and you see the Galactica flying through the sky as it begins it's descent to the ground and land...I don't care what planet it is...even if it is Earth, but I have always WANTED to see that...either on youtube or on television...perhaps one day!! :)

  • Five fangirls of the newer version stumbled across this video...

  • I'm told by my sister I used to watch this heaps when I was little but I have no memory of it even after watching videos on YT to rejog my memory. I can kinda rememeber starbuck but nothing more....

  • Best ever.

  • This theme tune takes no shit or prisoners :)

  • Richard Hatch would be embarrassed by the current Richard Hatch.

  • beets. bears. battlestar galactica

  • Richard hatch should have being given a better character, not just Tom Zarek

  • the star wars-battlestar galactica case was a draw.

  • the best sci fi film/series ever. In 1978 abc ruined what could have been the best sci fi franchise ever.

  • @battlestarmarc I agree wholeheartedly. ABC should die for what they did back then. Stupid network executives and their "We don't like it, so scrap the series, even though it has a loyal following" thought process. I bet you anything they cancelled Galactica because it cost too much to put in special effects into the episodes, like the explosions and the laser fire. In the later episodes, including Galactica 1980, you notice firsthand how the special effects are lacking, to save money.

  • 0:45 is that face from the A-team?

  • Comment removed

  • @Crw1111 Yes, you're right. In this show Dirk Benedict plays the role of Starbuck.

  • @edoardomanzireloaded Cool!! Thank you for the confirmation

  • If the original didn't repeat the same clips of special effects it likely would've lasted another two or three years... heck, even in the intro, they use the same explosion and spaceship fly-by twice each.

  • I loved the movie and TV series Battle Star Galactica as a kid. Although in the late 70's Star Wars was the most popular and my personal favourite. A friend had a Ceylon fighter in the 70's, the kind that shot missiles and was recalled due to numerous injuries. I still remember the fun we had playing Battlestar and Star Wars. I don't like the new Battle Star Galactica series; I can't get past that the Ceylons look like humans in the new series. I miss the red light and their voices.

  • Just hearing this famous BattaleStar Galactica Theme Just brings tears to me eye's from the bottom of my heart as i first saw BSG from the early 80's when i was only 5 years old & i'd sit there & watch it with my dad, well i am 33 years old now & just hearing this for the first time in 28 years, yes I'm a grown man & i am crying cause this took me back to my childhood & the awesome TV Series in which i miss, Thank you so much for posting this Trompthar, your a star!

  • I thought the TV show was in monaural! Was it re-mixed for DVD like the original STAR TREK TV show was done for first edition DVD? They should have used Sensurround mixing on this intro LOL with lots of low end rumble, that’s how I remember it in the cinema.

  • now this is the real battlestar galectica that rubbish remake only has special effects going for it this show had lots of good plots and characters.

  • @doctorw2 Yeah I haven’t watched the new BattleStar I can tell it looks like total pants. Originals for me thank you. What the TV network should have done is shown the originals again I what is called a re-run, it worked for STAR TREK in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s and still continues on today. Re-runs!!!!

  • @EmpireLS56KW The new Battlestar Galactica is one of the best tv series ever made, you're missing out by not catching it.

  • The original Battlestar Galactica was very popular, many people watched it; but special effects were so expensive that it was cancelled for Mork & Mindy that had the costs of a studio apartment.

  • @WOWJBEOWULF so far no new word on who is in the cast of Glen Larson's feature film version set to be released next year.

  • Better than the new crap on Sci Fi channel...

  • Original Battlestar Galactica is on the rtn network on Sundays nights.

  • Commander Apollo of the Galactica would have at least 2 grandsons by now. Colonel Starbuck would have at least 2 daughters and three sons by now al helping to defend the Galactica.A

Adama's crypt on the Galactica would be in a Sacred Location in the center of the Ship.

  • We need more Tales from the saga of the Great Ship Galactica....

I wonder what Commander Apollo, Colonel Starbuck,Captain Boomer,Flight Captain Boxey and retired Council of the Twelve President Tigh are up to these days.

The Super Tough and Vast 500 year old Galactica must look like a Mad Max vehicle by now. Her Landing and Launch Bays looked like Detachable Modules that would be Docked and Undocked with her for periodic Overhaul and Overall replacement before her Starbases were Destroyed.

  • After the Battlestar Atlantia was destroyed the Galactica pulled out of the Fleet of Warships. later on it is mentiond that no other Battlestars survived. can it be argued that at least one or two other Battlestar commanders would have ordered a retreat or an escape involving a Jump to Lightspeed ? I find it hard to believe that all the Battlestars would have remained like Sitting Ducks.

  • @Roadracer987654321 The Pegasus under Cain was the only other battlestar besides the Galactica known to survive.

  • @Originalman320 You Said it Right ! Known to Survive. But in TV Land the People in Charge do what they Want. Cai nwas a Linch Pin Character the Writers used to back themsleves out of a Corner. I saw the Living Legend the Very First Time it was aired in November 1978. Little did I know then that it was to Become Science-Fiction History. Commander Cain is Admiral Horatio Hornblower, General Patton,General Douglas MacArthur and Captain Nemo Rolled into One in Outer Space........... : )

  • What was the Service Record of the Battlestar Atlantia ?

To be the Presidential Battlestar she must have had a Distinguished War Record as well as a long list of Distinguished Commanders. She met her Fate too early in the series.

Seeing her Destroyed in the "Pearl Harbor" Style attack on the Fleet of Colonial Battlestars in the First episode of the Original Series was Gut wrenching.

  • Thank G this is not the new gay one!

  • @RadioPaul1 the new one was written by a drunk sex deprived idiot. to much sex not enough battles i give it a -10

  • The only stupid thing in this old one is the little boy with the robot dog ( "dagit" ),.. aside from that this shows alright.

  • Models still look better than CG

  • My favorite!

  • UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • I loved watching battlestar Galactica (TOS) I recall that they had some morals back in the day when space travel was well established and very respected mode of travel, not like the hash job we have today, Getting on a plane is more degrading than getting on a bus. When Battlestar Galactica came out on the new version I was overwhelmed when it come out and after watching it I was so disapointed.

  • This Was So Mutch Better Than That hash of a remake, just makes you sick that they can get it so completly wrong

  • @stewebabe too right

  • @bansheewhiskey Let's just say that they don't make em' like that any more.

It was "the matrix" of it's day.

  • la puta, qué recuerdos

  • Star Trek remains the best TV serie of scientific fiction. I live in Brazil.

  • I love 3 TV Scifi shows.

    Bab5

    BSG (new and old)

    Buck Rogers (80's)

The new BSG was just amazing towards the end. I loved the story and thought that the acting was just great.

The older series I loved equaly because it was not campy like some of the other crap around those days.

Also....I owned a hella lotta BSB toys back in those days :) I grew up with that and Buck Rogers.

    Oh the 80's...........Anyone remember Quincy?

  • LOL I was in the 10th grade damn I feel old LOL

  • The GREATEST sci-fi show ever.

  • Classic

  • the concept of the space fiction in 80 's with the camera "pelicula"

  • die menschen sind die christen , und die zylonen die moslems :-)))))))))

  • @thomasbuffys

Fuck off, nobody needs your shitty comments

  • The look reminds me so much of early star wars.

  • That's because the same guy did the special effects.

  • Oh, really? Didn't know that. What's this guy's name?

  • John Charles Dykstra

  • Oh.

  • There are going to be those that like the old one because of the nostalgia and going off half-cocked saying that you have to like the new one is more facist than anything else. I like the new one for it's more realistic approach but I like the old one for its more upbeat attitude and also the intro, but is screwed up when they arrive on earth and change the actors. A true fan doesn't berate those that prefer one over the other because they follow both and can see that angle they are coming from.

  • However by saying that those that they haven't watched the new one is ignorant for if they haven't watched it they would reply their comment and they can say that those that are being hostile haven't watched all of the old one. In short stop hating on each other.

  • I like the original simply out of my love for corny 70's Sci-Fi. For realism, the new one is probably best. I liked the neat, corny, upbeatness of the original though.

  • Realism? The new one?

Sorry, but the new series is far away from realism! Just watch the equipment. What are today's weapons like an Uzi, G36 etc. doin in Space? What are today's cars doin there? The worst episode was when Starbuck was flyin the wrecked Cylonfighter by pulling and jumping on it's nerves! Flyin by sight, without any instruments, finding the Galactica without problems and beats Apollo in an dogfight! And all this in a fucking corpse?

  • But it's a lot more realistic than space lasers.

  • I don't think it's strange at all that they still use kinetic weaponry and got land based transportation in the colonies, and It's not like they we're going to design entirely new cars and guns just for the show.

Now In the episode "You Can't Go Home Again" Starbuck does not pull and jump on it's nerves to get the raider to move. She instead hacks away muscle and flesh that are attached to mechanical controls. It's never stated that the raider lacks navigational tools.

  • they changed the actors because thats what happens when network producers run a series by money and not script writers by Artwork.they can screw up even the best series ever.

  • @Chokula99 This is such a true comment that has been nailed for all programs and series, A charator is the one you will ether love or hate but the key facts are 99% on the ability of the actor, and no matter how great the show if the actor is no good then it can make a show a flop before it has begun.

  • People tried to say the same thing about the original being Facist, but the newer one was more so than the original

  • Surely it was only "Facist" when the Dirk "Face Man" Benedict was on screen.

Unless you meant Fascist of course?

  • @kpuc1973 Yeah, that's what I meant

  • @KyleLocke That is so true, I see what you are saying. But do they realy expect us to watch blindly and hope for the best when A character changes his personality and looks, Guess they thought that we would just accept the fact that the actor got caught in a transport accident and it warped his whole self into a different person.

  • Me too man

  • obviously you don't like the reimaged BSG, because you all are to stupid to follow the epic story arc from season 1 to 4.

  • cloreal speaks the truth. Only retards and nostalgia nazis don't watch the modern BSG, and they only hate it for very superficial reasons ("ooh it's too bleak", "oooh Starbucks a girl, we are mysonginst dinosaurs", "anything modern sucks"), fuck those idiots, they have never watched the show and never will, they have no brain, no will of their own

I love both shows...and that's the mark of a true fan. People who can enjoy a little something called "diversity"

  • Nah, I disagree, good for you for being on the fence but for people who grew up in the 60s 70s and 80s they'll always be anti the new series. For a start the old series was high-concept. It was a bit 'out-there' and metaphysical (ancient astronaut theory etc).

However I can appreciate the graphics and technology for this version.

But the music isn't the same, the direction isn't for everyone and the cylons are CGI hybrid things.

Hopefully. The film will bring together both 'styles' of BSG...

  • I grew up in the 70s and 80s and I love the new series. Especially as it goes on the tone of the show is completely different, so to me it's not a replacement. It's a seperate show that takes the same idea and goes in a different direction with it.

  • True, but a series / film like the old one would be cool too...

  • Actually the reasons I wasn't real crazy about the re-imagined BSG, went far beyond the fact that they gave Boomer & Starbuck a Sex change

and her are some of those reasons:

1: All the ships in the fleet had FTL capability in the revision

2:the dialogue from the original series was dismissed, with exception to the swear word "Frak"

3:they said the Cylons were created by Man in the newer version, when in the original, they were created by a Reptillian race called "Cylons"

    etc, etc

  • C'mon - new BSG is a million times better than the original. Scripts, acting, effects. Add in the extra movies that go back to the first cylon created (a machine containing the mind of the inventor's daughter!), Caprica just before the explosion etc., Razor etc... and it's just a ball of fun.

  • Sorry, Nautilus, I gotta Disagree there

Going back to an earlier comment I made about the differences between the Original Battlestar Galactica & the remake, there were numerous things I didn't like about the new version

  • @Nautilus1972 thumbs up bud. New BSG was awesome. Been saving the last season for awhile now.

  • starbucks a girl???

    oh no

what next a human teekie from buck rogers?

  • @kpuc1973 beedie beedie beedie beedie beedie. lol. dont forget that they made Boomer a gilr no less.

  • @heyarnoldsknee Or, maybe it's crappily written. It's better to be a "nostalgia nazi" than a blind dumbfuck who gleefully watches drivel and makes excuses for it because he's too brain dead to think for himself.

  • land promise in the space

  • The NEW bsg sux because they turned Starbuck into a girl. The original had sort of a majesticness to it...new one was bland.

  • Oh, come on, the new Battlestar Galactica is way better than the old one. It's amazing in its storytelling. There's so many layers to it.

  • You are an idiot techunk. Grow a brain. Kara Thrace did the original Starbuck justice, and her journey was ten times more spiritual.

  • Battlestar Galactica was being writen before Star Wars. Star Wars made the space setting popular again and helped Galactica get approved.

  • @LeeAnnOfAlderaan It's STORY isn't really similar to that of Star Wars anyway. It was more the visual style than the plot.

  • THE GREATEST SCI-FI INTRO OF ALL-TIME....NOTHING COMES EVEN CLOSE...JUST LOVE IT!!

The Old Battlestar Galactica was MUCH MUCH Better than the new Battlestar Galactica...Galactica 1980 was a HUGE disappointment and let down to all the fans. I think the producers did not give the proper respect to Lorne Green. I will say this for all BSG fans of the show...Lorne Green as Commander Adama will ALWAYS and FOREVER be Commander Adama...he portrayed it beautifully!!! GREAT ACTOR AND GREAT SHOW!

  • It was a good show, but the modern one is just as good. It's amazing in its sotrytelling. I don't understand how you could even say it's a disapointment.

  • @sanjeevksharma To come straight to the point exactly .

  • a base ship say up agenist a borg cube

  • The original BSG was better than the new series......no suprise there!

  • merci beaucoup que de souvenir

  • Third intro? Are you counting the movie?

  • During the 70ies and 80ies, lots of great TV Themes were produced - but THIS might be the most stunning one! The classic Battlestar Galactica is a true TV - Legend...

  • I saw the movie on Sci-Fi and it was really nice. The entire show is really great. Well... but I like the new cylon ships better, they´re soo scary XD

  • back in the 70 / 80 the old base stars were scary enough! and still are ^^

  • Comment removed

  • Man, 30 years and I still get goosebumps from this intro!

(Still a fan of the original)

  • The music just commands attention, it's brilliant.

  • best t.v. show/ mini series ever !!!!

  • i love it

i found a channel in my country that still publics BGS (this version)

  • The ship effects are much, much better than i remembered! I used to love this show so much.

  • give me a model over cg anyday!

  • This is brilliant. The classic version shows the pride of the human race, how we can acomplish almost anything as long as we stick together. The new one just turns the whole thing into a cheap drama.

  • Ye new ones just a soap in space.... sucks...

  • Yeah. Guess I'm old fashioned, but I liked the mood of the original better. And certainly the costume and prop designs. People from a different world shouldn't be wearing American fashions from 2008. I give the new show props for showing humanities terror and loss after the destruction, but to be honest, I had a hard time really liking any of the characters.

  • I agree with pandaphil on most points. I don't think replacing the main character by a female was a good move this time. I saw 1 episode of the old series & couldn't wait to see the next one each time. After seeing the new one i wasn't really interested. But nice to see this isn't forgotten. I think the cast in the old series was impressive and the story did more for the show then it does in the new. greetz

  • you're the first old bsg fan gave a good reason to not looking the new version while still giving it the respect it deserves. thank you sir!

  • @pandaphil

"People from a different world shouldn't be wearing American fashions from 2008."

I think they should dress like baked potatoes and wear bizarre "futuristic" fashions that nobody would ever wear. With spandex!

  • @bdobbsthepipe You've obviously never seen Erin Grey in spandex. ;)

  • @pandaphil LOL LMAO that was funny a comment nice one. LOL

  • just love this sound :D can never forget it!

  • Captain Apollo aka Tom Zarek. A former hero turned half-villain. no wonder Tom Zarek doesn't like new captain apollo, the man take away his role.

  • You, Sir, Win The Internets ( I never understood the meaning of that phrase, but it's supposed to be positive ) !

  • I like both series, but the '78 version did what Star Trek used to do - they usually resolved a situation in 1, maybe 2, episodes. It didn't do story arcs, & after the 1st few eps, the survivors were acting like they did before the fall of the Colonies.Real life is never that neat.

  • They did do that season lon story arc where I think it was Apollo was stranded on that deserted planet with a silon. First they fought, then they became close friends. At the end the silon died. I was a kid and cried my eyes out.

  • Yeah, an episode of Galactica 1980, " The Return of Starbuck ". It was basically " Robinson Crusoe " with Starbuck as the Crusoe character & the Cylon as the " Man Friday " guy. Or maybe " Castaway " with Cylon as Wilson & Starbuck in the Tom Hanks role..... ;-}

  • Glen Larson is in talks with Universal Studis in making a Battlstar Galactica feature film and it will not be like the remake version.

  • Is that for real?

    I thought Glen Larson's dead.

  • for the last 30 years, not gonna happen

  • I love both versions of this show. I respect people who prefer one over the other, but I think the 1978 original series and the newer 2003-2009 version bring unique aspects to an intriguing story.

Can we all at least agree that "Galactica 1980" was the worst?

  • LoveShock2: I watched the original when it was first on, and at the time, yeah, it seemed really cool. I was a kid, though. Now, I can't see where the label "serious" would fit. The casino planet, the unicorn, the Cylon gunslinger, the planet-of-the-week plotting, and so on ... not to mention the writers' inability to distinguish a star system from a galaxy. The characters in the '78 series just don't come off like people who had their whole civilization wiped out. Glossy, yes. But not serious.

  • being Young (only 21) and being a Scifi fan I would have to say Each Show has it's own Charm. I've watched the New and the Old but they are in fact very different shows that happened to share similarities.

  • Love the noise of those cylon raider lasers........JUB! JUB! JUB! JUB! JUB! lol!

  • I LOVED Battlestar original AND new!!!!

  • Smiles I was 16 when this came out.

  • I stopped watching the new Galactica series after season 1, IMHO the classic series is much better!

  • The classic series was bunch of shit. Oh lets go land in a corn feild and save everyones day!..

  • Yeah well if it were close to the old series qouldny it just be the old series? And it did suck. Whats with this shit about landing on planets and saving everybody else.

  • as you are being an ass i will

the cylons at 1st was not made by man and it is on the new BSG and i hate that! the old BSG hadt some mistory about the pegesus wether it was destroyed so people would watch it! the viper looked better (not graphics) the intro was better with the music and as it IS a si fi i think the old cylons look better than the human looking cylons!

anyway everyone has there chose so i let you watch what only fits in US

  • actually, the cylons in the old one were..just not as... advanced ;)

  • I cant stand 5 minutes of the old show. So quiet that shit up.

  • IPCouchpotato is a true idiot and a vulgar piece of trash

  • You have proven your exsistence as a faggot.

  • Sorry. I am 36. I was a bit young when the orignal first came out but I saw it later in reruns. Even when I was 10, I thought it was a lame kiddie cartoon.

The original was not "serious" sci fi. There have been very few attempts at serious sci fi for TV and movies.

Star Wars wasn't even sci-fi at all. It was a fantasy with space opera trappings.

The remake is TRUE Science Fiction, It is about ideas, not hardware.

  • Still way better than the new series, classic Starbuck and Boomer were the greatest!

  • Ahh. this is the real BSG! This is where the best pilot in the show is a Guy, who gambles, womanizes, and smokes cigars! Sometimes I think Mr. Hatch was so jealous of StarBuck's popularity in the original, that he purposely made him into a she to spite.

  • Capedcrusad3r: Richard Hatch had nothing to do with writing or producing the new series. However, he did a very good job playing a recurring character in it.

  • The pilot movie of the original was not bad. But the first episode of the regular series was idiotic and set the tone of the rest of the show's run.

Compare it to the first regular episode of the new series. If you can't see the improvement, you are a moron.

  • Disco casino planet vs. 33 minutes. Think about it!

  • You're an idiot, archer. The new series is just piggybacking on the great ideals of the original. Quit sucking shit through a straw and face reality.

  • Again, The humans being suckered into a phony "peace treaty" by their eternal enemies. Disco Casino planet. Cute kids and robotic dogs. Cowboy Cylons. Mormons in Space. And I am not even going to talk about 1980.Even as a kid I thought it was dumb.

    How are those "great ideas"?

  • As I said, watch the respective first regular episodes of each show. Which one sound the more plausible and real.

I know that when I am fleeing the destruction of my home world and being cahsed by a army of genocidal robots, my first thought will be to take R&R on a planet that seems to be a cross between a Las Vegas casino and the Love Boat.

    PLEASE.

THe original was a Saturday cartoon for not particularly bright children.

  • A very human reaction, people indulges in vice and sex when the "End of the World is nigh". What about the gentlemen onboard the Titanic?, they put on their tuxedos and retreated to a saloon to play cards and to drink.

  • Archer1949, you forgot to mention the kid riding the unicorn, the stampeding pig-men, and the two episodes that "piggybacked" on the classic movie The Guns of Navarone. Yep, the '78 series was pure creative genius.

  • The origionals basic ideas and characters was great. The problem is the budget was apparetly tight, and the writers weren't the best, of course most 80's tv shows were cheesy (A-Team for example). I disagree on the acting, I think some of the actors were pretty good.

  • To understand the differences between the two series you have to take into context the times they were made. Remember, when the first series was made, Star Wars was only two years old and disco hadn't died yet. Sci-Fi was still in the proverbial closet. It wasn't accepted like it is now. So don't slam the old series. It's a reflection of its time.

  • star trek vs star wars vs battlestar galactica vs babylon 5 vs stargate vs starship troppers...

  • vs Buck Rogers ...

  • great series

  • Great memories! I seem to recall there was a Battlestar Galactica movie...called 'Conquest of the Earth' or something like that....

  • Don't recall the title. but yeah, there was a movie, cut together from 3 episodes from the BSG sequel, Galactica 1980. If memory serves there were apparently several movies, but they were all basically just tv episodes cut together and released in Europe.

  • I never knew this show had an 'original' haha! JOY! I love all things retro! I like the 'new' version so I will be seeking out the 'old' one to watch to! Thank you for the video post.

  • fun show, specialy TGOIP0.

  • Always though the Cylons on the original had cool voices :P
