And the great thing about Japan is: "she takes the best from all over the world, and makes it her own." So you can watch Turkish films, Japanese films, and the best Hollywood has to offer. But very rarely do we get a foreign film over here.
That quote was from an American film, based in Japan btw. Some trivia for you... do you know the name of the movie?
Name of the movie is "Mr. Baseball". It's about a Major League baseball player (Yankees) that gets sent to Japan to play. I liked it, and I thought that was a great line. And I love the woman that played the supporting role, Aya Takanashi.
Agree, and that's where I thought they were going with it when they signed the other guy instead at the end. I don't wanna give too much away here, as Yoko may watch it.
Another movie I liked about a guy that went to Japan, hated it at first, then didn't want to leave by the end... "Lost in Translation".
Sounds like an interesting movie. I love foreign films. There's so much more depth in them than the ones made in Hollywood we get over here, that are mostly skin, explosions & car chases. I've been watching some Swedish films lately. I'd like to check this one out if I can find it.
@JunmaiShu For us in Japan, Hollywood movies are part of "foreign films" :)
Generally speaking, I prefer Japanese cinemas and non-Hollywood foreign movies. But I can enjoy Hollywood movies as well, just like I can enjoy amusement parks. :)
Don't get me wrong, the American film industry still makes a gem here & there, though not with the same frequency it once did. And I just watched a movie last night (Harold & Kumar X-Mas) that had no depth whatsoever, but I enjoyed it. I'm going to see "In Time" in a few days.
The best thing about YT to me is to see what's going on in other parts of the world, and that includes cinema. So since you enjoy doing this, and your viewers do too, keep them coming :)
Kaplanoğlu's trilogy of films seem very interesting and intriguing. I am not familiar with Turkish cinema, but I am always happy to check out something new and different. Love your little movie reviews, Yoko-san. Hope you're having a wonderful weekend. Take care. :)
Yep, Mr. Baseball is one of my favourites too,
always great to watch Ken Takakura.

@Yokomaririn I hope to see it someday. My preference is world cinema, as well, not so much Hollywood. :)
