  • The first time i heard this song was here on youtube.

it was included in a video from a Womam who was getting punished by some crime she commited in Afheganistan i think, it was long before google buy the youtube and banned that kind of video, this song and that video were very disturbing back then... does anyone remember that ?

sorry for my bad english, its not my mother language

  • ..Album cover is creepy.

  • @TheAdam159 Someone that thought that the video was too heavily compressed.

  • amazing song. got me into Opeth. I dismissed them at first, then I heard this and realised they were a great band, full of light and shade. Which asshole disliked this?

  • @TheAdam159 I did, but not really

  • Al minuto 3:25 aparece la parte reggaetonera de la canción jajja.

  • Im sorry but Opeth is legendary and if you don't get them, your not listening.

  • la foto del min. 4:49 :S ... me da cuco :Z

  • @Maritax98 awwww xDD, la de Deliverance me perturba a mí :S

  • this song is so assassins creeds! hahahah (y)

  • for anyone who's wondering why the song cuts off at the end, apparently that's what these guys intended, cuz I came here to see if it cut off at the end on youtube like it does on my ipod, and it does. Don't know why Mikael made that decision, but as a wise fellow youtuber once said, "Has Opeth ever released a bad song? Seriously, name one." (that was not verbatim, but it was close)

  • @deafghost52

personal opinion here but i say lotus eater was not that good. oh god here comes the flames!

    *ducks under desk*

  • Hands down my favorite Opeth song. This song makes me want to run through a forest, wild... to do everything in life that I've ever wanted to do.

  • :)

  • Where's the rest of the song? It gets cut off at the end.

  • @Thermingt0n

I don't know man, I only get this track.

  • @Thermingt0n It's meant to end that way. Sometimes you don't get closure. Kind of a cool idea actually. Threw me the first time too.

  • @Thermingt0n theres nothing after, it just ends like that man, i have the disc home and its the same

  • @Thermingt0n This song goe straight into "Hope Leaves" on the CD, and it cuts off right at 5:16.

  • "In the rays of the sun... I am longing for the darkness..."

  • 28 peoples will die in 7 days

  • DRUGGIE GODS

  • people its a SONG it not the end of the world

  • in my country or more in america people how like metal hate reggeaton, the beat on this song got reggaeton beat, unveliebale not??

  • @keanepo the song doesn't have a reggaeton beat, it's an oriental one, the whole range of the song is an oriental one, the guitar playing as well as the drums. Believe me I know about oriental music :)

  • @metalloulou ah okey,im dont know that, the sound is good at all,i like oriental music <)

  • @keanepo where the hell are you from?...you're broken english--...I can't even read it, it's so goddamned broken!

  • Man the beat in this song is so fucking awesome.

  • mine was the "like" number 666

    :D

anyway, this is one of the most touching and amazing songs of the history of rock..it's perfect.. Opeth are gods

  • 3:17 - 3:26 Stunning!!

  • @dissectoralex Yer, Mikael is the man.

  • Sk-et-ch-y

  • Love when the distorted tremolo chords comes in in the instrumental part!

  • It's crazy how clean guitars and acoustic guitars can mbe just as or more intense that distorted ones. This riff sounds like the end of the world. Like I imagine the sun starting to crash into the earth every time I hear 2:31 when the drums pick up

  • dislike this = dont know music

  • @JokerHimself Music is subjective...

  • I swear..after listening to them you get more intelligent when you approach music as a whole. This band proves that music-such as the genre "death metal" -can be an "art form"

  • @islespatrick FYI, Opeth is progressive death metal, just sayin'

  • @islespatrick

Yeah or you can say that Opeth deserves the honor of defining there own genre. Like some others says: The genre is simply Opeth cause Opeth is a own unique genre.

  • 28 justin bieber fans better hide yo kids hide yo wife

  • @willc803 implying justin bieber fans are married males who have had sex to produce children

  • Listen to Rage Against the Machines "Born of a broken man." Too bad this song was released 4 years after...

  • @DEATHbassistMETAL lol the first chord is the same, and thats it.

I doubt Opeth listen to RATM for inspiration anyway...

  • @DEATHbassistMETAL A song using the same starting chord as another song? I can't believe such a thing is possible. This is definitely worth making a post about.

  • @Intotheorchard sorry, i just noticed that while baked one night, thought some people would find it interesting. I apoligize, grandmaster of the internet

  • @DEATHbassistMETAL I accept your apology, oh insignificant one. You may continue worshipping me.

  • if this song was a woman...

  • @666irshaad Didn't you post that comment on 3 other Opeth videos?

  • @Opethfullcovers do u have a problem with that?

  • @666irshaad no, but you did post someone else's comment. try being original.

  • @666irshaad hahahaha

  • @666irshaad I'd desperate to fuck her

  • Opeth.

  • raeggeton has apsolutly nothing to do with metal

opeth is one hack of a band;they're apsolute geniuses;their music is the music peaple should look after

    OPETH\M/

  • Everyone for opeth, you kick ass. everyone against, you suck dick. if you said reggaeton and meant it, get the dick outcho mouth. if you disagreed with it, thank you

  • @thebronzebat umad?

  • There is no one like Opeth.

  • I never noticed this actually sounds A LOT like reggaeton until I read these comments, but it sure does ahaha. Love Opeth though.

  • deliverance and damnation are the same . damnation is the clean part of the two its a two part album. without the part 1 and part 2 moniker. and opeth is a musical art form a fuckin phenomenon. amazing period.

  • Reggaeton beat is freaking me out.. Does anyone else than me feel like the outro should be a little more Deliverance-ish, with like the 2nd guitar and bass lines just like the said song outro? I tried it now on my acoustic guitar, worked like a charm.. (Considering the two albums are kind of sister albums published within months of each other)

  • @Achw3l and @nickolxas

Sincerely, Reggaeton?! I don't even know what that is, so I'll point it out, the ending beat as the long beat in the middle is typical Tribal beat, something far older than "Ganjamusic". Other bands that use that kind of beat often in metal are Sepultura and now Soulfly,... to name one. Mars Volta use that a lot too, though they give it more psychadelic touch to it. Opeth is Opeth. If you want to define music so badly, then you can't appreciate it!!

  • @Phireo actually Reggaeton has nothing to do with reaggae cuz its crap

  • @DragonSantiago

Still, my point remains valid, the assumption was just that. Now I will write in a way everyone can understand!

    Opeth is Good!!!

  • 3:29 is reggaeton!!! >:(

  • @nickolxas

    ahahhahha

  • best ending ever. no fading, no climax, no ending. Closure

  • Death metal has some cool stuff and I like bands like Cannibal Corpse, but 10 songs with double bass monster, screaming and blast beat get tired. That's where Opeth makes art ...

I know, my english sucks D:

  • @Soriano1994

I totally agree. Opeth makes really beautiful art indeed.

I usually dont consider Death Metal as "art" IMO, but for me and more Opeth is truly unique on that point.

Not that I simply hate growling, but Opeth just mixes many genres and techniques in a brilliant way.

  • @Soriano1994

Hmmm... I'd disagree, I think it depends on the mood you're in.

Your English is fine by the way!

  • @Soriano1994

I use to like cannibal corpse to but I just not into the straight death grunts and growls anymore.

  • @Soriano1994

    Agreed. Well said.

  • @Soriano1994 lol jaja opeth plays soooooo nice osease muy chingon!

  • @Soriano1994 u put it right...this is where opeth makes art ! right on !

  • @Soriano1994 ummm....not NEARLY as much as keanepo's english, dood...

  • Don't like Opeth due to all the grunting and shit, I can't stand that shit but this song really is amazing, great buildup. They got some other nice songs too btw, like In my time of need. They should make more of those!

  • @leontJe1

    there's the album Damnation

  • @leontJe1

Well, the brilliant feature with Opeth is that they vary the techniques quite much, growling, soft and beautiful singing, slow and pretty play, brutal and fast play, evil and dark atmosphere, many different genres mixed up in in one band and yes indeed they mix a few unconventional genres like jazz, blues, classical and folk into the composition etc

All those things makes Opeth a lot lot more than just a traditional "growling band".

  • beautiful music, Lopez' drumming, Mikael's guitar and lyrics.... pure happiness :))

  • this album is flawless.literally.

no wonder its described as metal's ultimate chill-out album...i describe it as music's ultimate chill-out album;)

but then, what defines chill-out music. you never know, when writing this, opeth could have been feeling anger, depression hate,etc.-which is the magic of their albums. the music may come across as calm and relaxing, but the feelings throughout the writing process could have been completely different. or maybe its just an amazing band;)

  • 3:28

    Lolololo reggaeton.

  • I fucking love this song! I wish it had a more defined ending, since its got such an evil buildup in the outro... but I have learned to love it the way it is. One of my favourite Opeth songs.

  • Repetetive! But nice I guess. The outro is good its just droning the same over and over again. Typical Opeth.

  • @ForgetaboutFreeman hahahah poor guy..

  • this song is incredible but can't seem to find any other decent song of theirs besides In my time of need because I can't stand grunting. Any recommendations? Cheers in advance!

  • @leontJe1 to rid the disease

  • @leontJe1 buy the damnation album. all claen

  • @leontJe1 There's no screaming in Damnation. and they do some other clean songs, like Burden, Coil, and Hessian Peel from the new album Watershed. You got Harvest and Patterns in the Ivy from Blackwater Park. Hours of Wealth and Isolation Years from Ghost Reveries. That's probably not even half of their clean stuff

  • @leontJe1 As Mike said: it's not because it's a bit more mellow than it is not any less evil!

  • Hey if you guys like this then check out my band Grey Skies Fallen on my channel.

  • Leave all OPETH NON RELATED comments aside; opeth is fucking amazing.

  • steven wilson ghost is behing the all album...great band this opeth

  • OMG I don't know what the argument is about.. but I LOVE OPETH and the END of the song.. is deep, magical, exotic, it's different.. what's wrong with being different... and it sounds very middle easter... I LOVE IT... it proves Opeth is a great band, because they explore other genres and it's just GREAT!!!!!

I hate how ignorant some people can be, but that's all you are ignorant... people should have compassion for people like that who liked to criticize and be mean!

  • @Icewings i agree brother

  • i hate the way it ends

  • This song has an outro that beats Deliverance, which is saying alot.

  • @davchandler "Regaeton is good if u were born in Mexico lol n live with cholos"

    You are an ignorant...

  • Awesomeness personified into a bunch of the best musicians eh??

  • I've always liked this song. Last year, though, i saw opeth live at the glass house in pamona, they performed this and HOLY SHIT. sounds AMAZING live, and they added in a jam session just before the middle eastern sounding part. now i LOVE this song, one of my favorite opeth tunes to date.

  • that picture is soo sad & scary

  • kind of porcupine tree

    they worked together right?

  • Yes, the mastermind behind porcupine tree produced the record.

  • amazing song

  • this song kinda ended too suddenly. i kinda like the live version from their DVD where they extend the song towards the end. made it sound even more creepy! Love it!

  • wtf con el reggaeton

    Srsly u have a monkey brain D:

  • los terribles perreopeth xDDD

  • LOL xDD

  • Great song, Opeth rules.

  • reggaeton :DDD

  • don't write that in this video please, that word is a crap.

  • it sounds like this, isnt it? :P just enyoy :DD

  • I agree with you! ;)

  • No offense, but reggaeton is crap.

  • @Thrasherist ahahahahaha LOL

  • @Thrasherist it is

  • @Thrasherist i agree

  • Comment removed

  • @Thrasherist Yeah, just because the drummer use latin music rhythms, cmon!!

  • @Thrasherist I Agree :D!

  • @Thrasherist Is not crap, at least you can get rid of crap, reggaeton still here polluting the world :D

  • ijo de puta largate de aki

  • lol

  • yeah it does actually does, hes hispanic ye know, the drummer. but it sounded cool i think

  • The 2 ''Martins'' (Lopez & Mendez) are from Uruguay, is a really nice country. In the ''Damnation'' year, reggaeton doesn't exist like that (I'm Chilean, a fucking country annihilated by reggaeton), so I'm afraid that Opeth are... Reggaeton pioneers??? Thats a joke dudes :P

  • oh dude i live in L.A california, and there is a shit load of hispanics here thats how i know what it is. i fucking hate it but Opeth put it together great!

  • yeah puerto rico has been infected by reggaeton and people or ''musicians'' that tend and go different directions always end up throwing pop crap

  • Aberkenbarath@ Jajaja Opeth? No way! Soy de Chile también ;) esto si que es música no como ese reggaeton de Fuck!

  • @AngelaMusicRocker Regaeton is good if u were born in Mexico lol n live with cholos

  • @davchandler YOU ARE A LITTLE WRONG I LIVE IN MEXICO AND I DON´T LIKE IT IS JUST A ""MUSIC"" WITHOUT FEEL THE ONLY FEELING IS SEX SEX AND PARTY AND THATS STUPID AND FOR YOU INFORMATION REGAETON WAS BORN IN PUERTO RICO OR SOMTHING LIKE THAT, AN THE CHOLOS IF YOU MEET THE CHOLOS I MEET YOU WILL PISS OFF THEIR ARE LIKE JOKERS FOR ME XD THEAIR ARE SO........LOL XD

  • @davchandler You Sir, are an ignorant.

  • @lycansabre you mean "You sir, are ignorant." get it right next time hoe.

  • @davchandler My mistake doesn't make you less ignorant.

  • @lycansabre lol i just had to help you out. make u look less stupid :) u should thank me at least

  • @davchandler I was born in Mexico, and live with the cholos.... and reggaeton still sucks

  • Only Mikael knows what hes singing about.... Lol

  • one off my favorite bands ever

  • love it :D

  • I still dont get the lyrics to this song completely. The first 2 verses are talking about some form of purification process, finding peace and redemption...

and then the final verse he's anxiously waiting for something, hopelessly praying, and apparently wishing for death? Dont get it.....

Beauyiful and awesome song especially at the end.

  • Also "as I come cleam Ive forgotten what I promised" is confusing too...what is he refering to here? that whole last verse sends me back to square one.

  • Alot of his lyrics arent really personal to himself, and can be interpretated loosely. He's a normal guy, as he says himself.

  • Its awesumest song ever created

  • Comment removed

  • Beautiful song

  • it sounds like persiany gypsy stuff

  • This song is absolutely divine, how could you say such a thing?

  • im not complaining i love this song but the ending just sounds unfinished but that maybe cuz the next song on the album this from may be continued to make it sound like one really big song

  • i think he means the abrupt ending, i dont really like it too xD

when i listen to this song it carries me away and then all of a sudden, BAM, next song... at first i was like, wtf...?

  • You serious? That is kinda the beauty of Opeth. They don't stick to any rules, f.ex by mixing a heavy black metal vocal with delicate, almost tender, acoustic guitar play. Cutting songs like that, throwing in bridges that come from nowhere and go to nowhere ;D That's Opeth! They surprise you every second you listen to their songs! Just listen to Ghost of Perdition or The Apostle in Triumph. They make music that will never bore you....

  • feather skin? LOL

  • think it's severed skin bro

  • c-c-c-combobreaker....

  • Otra rolita muuuuy buena... quiero ponerme relaaax

  • They 've created new music genre, masterpiece.

  • at 3.42 that oriental element till end of song.. sounds great!!

  • I thought that it sounded latin... still awesome though.

  • students of pink floyd should be as brilliant as opeth are now =D HAIL PROGRESSIVE ROCK/METAL.

  • thx u all guys for comments ! opeth rulezz & i hope u like all cds

  • @AKA03 I DO :p

  • I already have, it should be coming through the post today im hoping :)

  • Wow, i defferently have to get this album, it all sounds chilled out from some of there other stuff, im not a big fan of the death screaming stuff lol

  • You definitely should get this album :D I'm really into the death metal aspects of Opeth and I'd still say this is one of their best albums, especially when accompanied with Deliverance.

  • You so funny.

    derp

  • Opeth could make any genre of music a masterpiece

  • definitly the best track on damnation

  • Hi, we are a new band called Koi, we are very inspired by Opeth, their massive climaxes and the atmospheric dynamics. We have a new album coming soon and want to inform you of that, search for "Koi-Less Than Abstract" for our mellow side, "Koi-Breaking of the Day" for our metal side, or "Koi-The Rabbit" for our more energetic up-tempo side. Hope you don't mind a struggling small band trying to spread their word :) Anyway, check it out, you might like it! Rock on! //Patrik

  • dude kind of wanted to check out your band but it sais it is a private video...no can do that way...

  • prog, melodic, death metal, jazz its all in there

  • That's all opeth is...and it's beautifull
