  • @melisha716 that's wussup.

  • An absolutely superb jumper & impressive footwork - but that's about it. I was never very impressed with either Yagudin or Plushenko as performers - they we're simply jumping machines with little connections between them. Also, like nearly every skater from any of the old Soviet Union countries, he just can't spin. Compare his musicality, spins & artistry to that of John Curry (the master) or Scott Hamilton. They drew you in. Curry's technique on almost everything was textbook & he was artistry

  • toOO beautiful!

  • this jumps are great but his transitions arent there. I like the figure skating now for its artistry, not just the jumping. his spins were fast but there was no creativity. then again, it was the old system....

  • @peachy765919

If he skated under new system,he can put so many transition. There is no mean to compeare programs under different systems.

But I do say I can feel so much artistry from this program.

I can understand from this program to put many transitions do not always mean artistry.

  • plushenko and yagudin are defs better than lysaceck

  • Comment removed

  • this is the best program ever!! He is the REAL skater.

  • plushenko and yagudin were the best skaters... i miss the real figure skating with QUAD jumps and triple, triples combination... vancouver 2010 were a joke... :/

  • @IRRREVERENTE exactly. That Lysaceck is in no equal to either Yagudin or Plushenko.

  • The best in Olympic HISTORY!!!

  • 6 people are blind.

  • I miss Alexei in in competitions :(

  • alexei yagudin is the best Figure Skater of all time.

  • How I miss Yagudin. Such a wonderful skater. I find skaters today are just so uninspiring. Yagudin was the complete package.

  • The best skater of all time!!!!

  • It was EPIC!

  • Absolutely brilliant! No one since has topped this.

  • Scot Hamilton was annoying here

  • brilliant! i miss yagudin's performances alot. such a great skater

  • The disgusting, prejudiced commentary makes me want to puke. It makes me sick to hear the greatest figure skater of all time, Alexei Yagudin, being called "conservative", as if he's mediocre and "conceding" this program. The arrogance in Dick Button's voice when he asks "will he enhance the program?" - disgusting. YAGUDIN IS THE BEST. This program is a pure masterpiece, by a beautiful genius. Who the hell are these pathetic commentators? Dick Who? Failures drowning in a sea of mediocrity.

  • @mackman211 the commentator who said that stuff is actually scott hamilton.

  • What a world..Lady Gaga gets 250 million hits..and this genius only gets (at the time of writing) - 278,597. Yagudin is the greatest figure skater who ever lived. He is a timeless master, a genius and will always reside in a golden league on his own. At the time he won in 2002, he was ahead of his time. Tens year later..the standard of skating is on the floor, just emphasizing the fact of Yagudin's glory. THIS is what an olympic champion looks like. Yagudin is a GOD.

  • mesmerizing!

  • This is why I love figure skating

  • no me canso de ver esta presentacion.. ese dia falte a la prepa jaja para ver la final de patinaje varonil y pssle gano a plushenko

  • Oh my God, I wish the commentators would stop saying it was "conservative." It wasn't! None of the programs in Vancouver had two quads like that! It was an incredibly FS!

Although it is a bit confusing to me why he won, since Timothy Goebel had much more difficult jumping passes...oh well.

  • Very, very handsome man - and supremely talented.

  • Still missing him...

  • I loved this performance he earned it.

  • oh my.

such power, such originality in movements. wow.

  • @MrAJforEVER The only performance that is better than this is his short program, Winter. The two best programs performed in the Olympic history!!

  • better than plushenko ever was!

  • His first triple axel is so flawless, Stojko has done a few great ones, but Alexei's are even better.

  • the commentary is awful

  • This guy is simply THE BEST... I just watched the Men's CHAMPION skate..

By the way, Scott Hamilton is so annoying here again. "Conservative"?? Give me a break! You wouldn't succeed in your attempt to bring back the popularity to the field if you are making absurd comments about someone like Yagudin, or ridiculing Plushy, or saying "gigantic mistake!" after Takahashi's "La Strada" performance. You can only do so by presenting the world a champion who performs beautifully with a quad.

  • TinaR39, I so agree with you. This guy is as close to absolute perfection as it gets.

  • すごい!!!

    beautiful!!

  • His performance is not only clean &beautiful but making people feel very exciting.

    I love his passion.

  • the best. bottom line

  • Alexei Yagudin is sooo cute

  • he could have done a quad triple triple easilyy lol

  • I don't see him 'conceding' nething here.

Set a standard I hope Patrick Chan can rise to someday

  • Bravo!!!

  • People keep wondering what is wrong with men's figure skating - same as what is wrong with all of the disciplines - the scoring system! It's a much bigger risk to attempt a quad now than it was. It's all about spacing jumps and grabbing the skate blades (?), resulting in both the technicality and the artistry suffering.

Plushenko lost because whoever designed his program did not take advantage of the new system - not because he is not capable of delivering a gold medal performance.

  • My God, I watch this and wonder why we've wasted so much time debating Lysacek vs, Plushenko. Neither long program even comes close to this. It is surely the "gold standard".

  • @TinaR39 This is certainly the "gold standard", you're right

& however, see a long program, Plushenko at Olympic Games 2006 in Turin

is the same gold standard, we must be fair, we are proud of them both

  • @TinaR39 honestly, I cannot believe there was once that Plushenko vs Yagudin debate. Plushenko has never even come close to Yags's expression. He was always performing his heart out. Plush was all jumps. Lysacek was neither. So much for men figure skating developing since 2002...

  • @TinaR39 agreed...best performance ever

  • I miss Yagudin so much!!! After 8 years, I still get emotional watching him compete... I have stopped watching figure skating since he retired, the sport is no longer the same without him

  • @youjia I agree, this is such a memorable performance.

  • Best EVER !!!

A clean programme, containing 2 quads, triple axle and salchow, performed at the olympics. Complete perfection, all a man can ever achieve and/or most likely will ever achieve.

(Compared to this) Figure skating since then has been in recession and that fact only confirms the statement above.

  • I agree.

At least, it's better than Evan Lysacek

    at Vancouver Olympic Winter Games.

  • at least ??? what are u talking about ?

  • this is myth

  • He is a skating legend, I remember how anxious I was to watch him when I was a kid I just wanted all the other skaters to finish already so he could come on...him and Plushenko just fantastic!

  • He's a legend!

  • Russians kick ass!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Have you ever seen better performance...?

  • @MrAJforEVER No never ...

  • @MrAJforEVER If there was, certainly done by Alexei himself;)

  • THIS is THE man who defieded "Plushie" not some foxy Lysacek. Daisuke!!!! Why? Oh why did u fall? This emotional scar would be so much smaller.

  • Can anyone compare Laisachek' s medal to this masterpiece? I wish Evan ever watched THIS performance and felt ashamed of his "gold" performance.

  • I totally agree with you!!

  • @007msdos I think Evan's performance was much better than all the other ones for this year's Olympics though. :P

  • @xxjanzxx

agree but for what he said after the game, i think he doesnt deserve it ; (

    he said:

" i didnt do quad becuz i dont wanna break my foot again"

"i do quad in pratice all the time i find its fun to do that"

"its as easy as doing triples"

then why didnt he do it??

  • @TRISTON93 I think it was the choice between either having 1) a safe but strong performance or 2) weaker and more risky performance and he chose the first. :P And since the quad isn't required for the performance, he probably thought why bother risking injury?

  • @xxjanzxx

well i dont think so lol

first of all, if its a safe performance, its would be as strong as the risky one becuz the risky one has more point on difficulty, and of course more audience will like it.

alll i think is that he wins the gold he should just shut up instead of saying the quad is easy but he didnt do it just becuz he doesnt wanna break his foot. thats a excuse.

  • @xxjanzxx

*irst of all, if its a safe performance, its wouldnt be as strong as the risky one

  • @007msdos

well even compare to most of plushenko's performances, he will still fell ashamed. no quad no winner.

  • Definitely this Yagudin's skate is beating Lysacek's and Plushenko's at this olympic games in Vancouver

  • Yagudin is the BEST ever.

  • WOW.. masterful. WTF HAPPENED TO FIGURE SKATING.. why are the mens today SO SLOW AND WEAK.

  • @Sicklildawgie, the only skater I've seen come close to Yagudin, is Takahashi (Damn I wish he'd skated a clean LP in Vancouver)

  • @kivawolfspeaker I agree. Elvis Stojko commented that is a nonsens to give the gold to Evan Lysacek and put Johnny Weir in 6th place ... Takahashi had a remarkable and DARING program ... Not to mention his speed!!!!

  • @iceroby72 I didn't like that Elvis made negative comments like that. I really didn't Pushenko's attitude about winning silver either.

  • @kivawolfspeaker Takahashi doesn't even come close to Yagudin. Not even remotely close. There comes a time when you have to put aside your personal prejudices and acknowledge GREATNESS. Yagudin's elegance, skill, power and beauty are astonishing and PERFECTION. He skates with his soul and is loved all over the world. Walk into any ice rink ANYWHERE in the world, say Alexei Yagudin, and they'll know he's the best. There is NO ONE like him. He is simply the best skater EVER.

  • @mackman211

I'm not saying Takahashi was BETTER than Yagudin, but of the skaters CURRENTLY competing, Takahashi is the closest to Yagudin.

  • @mackman211 On a shallow note, he's also the hottest. I became interested in figure skating when I was young because of the Russian greats and Yagudin was my favorite. The rivalry between him and Plushenko was really something to see. Nowadays, figure skating absolutely pales in comparison.

  • @sicklildawgie Agreedm seriously. o_o

  • @sicklildawgie The fact that his transitions are all on 2 feet help him a lot. If you pay attention to what he does in between elements you'll notice he does 100% mohawks and three turns and pumps. Makes skating a lot harder when you need legitimate turns with actual edges. Not to mention footworks actually having levels now. And spins like his sit change sit being a level 1 (Worth about 2.5 less than a level 4 that most men do now). So give the guys from today a break.

  • @Drewevansbaby You didn´t get the point! Why don´t you compare Yagudin to Ulrich Salcow , I´m sure Yagudin was doing harder tricks, but they are both legendary skaters. Which one of the guys from today will match Yagudin´s fame and titles, that´s the question!?

  • GRRR< Scott Hamilton really annoys me! Skated conservatively my ass. Yagudin's performance would trump every other gold medal performance ever skated, especially this year's!

  • и Ласичека поставили на одну ступень с этим человеком???какой позор

  • I can hardly tell how much I like yagudin !

  • he was conservative if compared to Plushenko, Evgeni executed his Jumps in much more difficult combinations... Alexei didnt take risks, he indeed skated smart.. that's what I love abt Plushenko, he used to come with difficult combinations and set olympic records.. he is in Guiness book as well..

  • whhaaaaaaaaaat. what much more difficult combinations. the most difficult jump combination plushenko completed at an olympics was 4-3-2.

Yagudin has the same level of difficulty as Plushenko, but the former skates with much more passion, grace and intensity

  • I was talking only abt this Olympics. Yagudin had better marks if I am not wrong and he skated smart cause there wasnt necessary to perform too hard to get the Gold. Plushenko had to do smth really special, thats why I said he took the risk here. As for me, they are the Greatest Men Skaters.

  • Comment removed

  • Scott Hamilton crack´s me up!!!! " Smart....being conservative" CONSERVATIVE....2 fricking QUADS, and amazing footwork, choreography and interpretation like no other....

Another thing....this program or Plushenko or Goebel programs would give them the gold in this olympics. I adore Lysacek, but this 3 programs (Salt Lake) were far far far more difficult . Seeing this programs make me sad....about figure skating nowadays.

  • Oh, my gosh yes! The future of figure skating looks bleak indeed. Where did the quality go?

  • Yagudin shouldve been the one coming out of retirement in 2010 to teach the wannabe's out there what real skating is..

if you agree with this thumb me up

  • two thumbs up and totally agree except he has a bad hip now and can hardly jump well. feel really really sad when i think about how much more he could have accomplished if it weren't for his hip stress fracture.

  • 8 years ago but still the best long programm i´ve ever seen! Missing such great performance at the olympic games 2010.

  • PERFECT.

  • пардон за ошибку

  • я горд ,что он мой тёска !!!

  • There was beauty and smoothness in Yagudin programs. When you were looking at him skating, you could see art on ice.

  • Really miss Yagudin's performances. They really touched my heart. No one now a days skates like Yagudin. And the quad combos were amazing.

  • I miss Yagudin's skating. After the free skate yesterday for the 2010 Olympics, I just needed to see this Master Artist at work. I agree NO ONE SKATES LIKE ALEXEI YAGUDIN!!!!!! I really miss him in competition.

  • I know. I was kind of disappointed and fell asleep through some of the skaters' free program yesterday. Hope Alexei can coach and maybe we will see art on ice again in the near future.

  • completely agree with you, was thinking the same. Yagudin and Pluchenko are masters and reall artists.

  • he dominates.

i loved him and my sister loved plushenko. both amazing but he is so powerful and makes it look so easy where as plushenko hasnt got as much consistency.

ice skating has changed. he did two quads for crying out loud. AMAZING

  • amazing... just amazing!!!!!!

  • I looked him up to see who Plushenko lost to last time. He's amazing. Simply beautiful. Far better than anyone still skating today, including Plushenko, who simply lacks his ease and grace.

  • Exactly..no one like Yagudin and Plushenko was never as good as him.

  • I remember him so fondly. What a gorgeous, talented skater!

  • BEST! i miss him so much.

  • respect.

    RESPECT.

  • Yagudin skated safely. It was a good performance, but he knew he didn't have to do 'everything' in order to win. Even commentators said he was dancing conservatively.

  • I saw him live in Salt Lake 2002 and he was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G

  • omg he was perfect!

  • The scoring system nowadays just encourages safe but boring programs instead of risky but exciting ones like this.

It's sad we can never see great performances like this in Vancouver because of the scoring system that makes skaters avoid difficult jumps.

No mistakes doesn't mean great performance.

  • @sirmioneitaly I thought the scoring system nowadays forces ALOT of skaters to downgrade their jumps to make way for a number of combinations (entrances, footwork, spins) to enhance performance.

  • Amazing. This performance is perfect, talent, music, sensitivy.

  • for me this program is so close to perfection and of course Alexei is nearly perfect, he has all the qualities required for a skater: talent, high technique, a very good and developed artistic sensitivity, charisma, power, ambition, the capacity to overcome his condition.

He is an atlete, an artist and a showman at the same time!

  • I keep returning to this program ... and after all these years, it still is utter perfection. I don't know how he did it ...

  • love the story which is there

    he skates with hir heart

    lut it

  • One of the great performances in ice skating history!

  • This performance is the very BEST I 've ever seen. Perfect!

  • Is just me or is the whole conservative things repeated by Scott throughout the entire program a little annoying?

He was AMAZING. I can't get enough of those feet! I just love it when skaters have such stunning footwork.

  • this is Magnificent!! I love how the rhythm of the music is nsync w/ his choreography. nicely done

  • He's the best! He's much better than Plushenko. Plush can only jump, jump, jump.

  • No, if u have one look at him he can do everything what yagudin did... (in my opinion)

  • what abt the performance in Torino of Plushenko? That was sensation! I dont agree. They are both Great!

  • un patinador así debería permanecer TODA LA ETERNIDAD! No debería envejecer jamás... ¿sabéis lo que es llorar de emoción?

  • I've always been more of a Plushenko fan, but I think this is the best Olympic gold medal-winning performance in any discipline since Boitano.

  • is it true that Yagudin will comback in Vancouver 2010???

  • No, he's not coming back

  • YAGUDIN FOREVER!!!

  • What a masterpiece!

I'm still waiting and hoping that a male skater

like all those guys in 2002 Olympic.

And I agree with you 'clgilray'.

It's not all about difficult jumps.

Yagudin was technically very strong and artistic.

That's why he's a legend. No disrespect, I haven't seen anybody like him from young male skaters these days.Brian Jubert reminds me of Yagudin a lot of time.

Is he the only one do the quad from recent skaters? I don't think I've seen one .

  • I was twelve years old when my mother and I went to see this event live. Alexei was amazing. Better that anyone else there.

  • It´s so powerful that you hardly can breath when he give out his hole soul at the end.

  • I have so much respect for Yagudin, Amazing.

  • I will always remember him for his outstanding footwork!

  • I do not do ice skating, BUT THIS was impressing! I work as a sports-journalist and some perfomances just make me shiver - this was one of them. ;-)

  • Third? Yeah, sure xD

  • When Scott thought he'd "conceded" to Evgeni and maybe Tim, he was only thinking of who had done more difficult jumps. A triple axle is worth 8.0 today; a quad toe is 9.8. Scott knew Tim had done THREE quad salchows - - but Alexei proved one can win without three quads or two triple axles with one in combination - - and he showed perfect spins, footwork, transitions - - and breathtaking artistry!! Thankfully, this exquisite program was not about who did more difficult jumps!!

  • can't be compared to skaters these days... best of best

  • Scott is okay most of the time, but he was wayyyyy off on this performance.

Alexei's quads were always smoother, higher, and bigger than Evgeny. And his artistry is much better.

Evegeny kicks up so much ice on the takeoff and landing, they're never smooth. And he relies more on intensity than on artistry. This entire competition was 100% Yagudin.

  • This scott is so stupid, he should be banned from ice skating competitions for good.

  • why?

  • Seeing my first competition live at the Worlds this year makes me regret that I never saw Alexei skate live competitively. I wanted to be at SLC so badly it was ridiculous. All I know is that I missed magic.

I remember watching this on TV at home and saying, "Shut up" several times as they were speaking. Watching it for the upteenth time, I feel like that other guy felt that he had to fill the silence and so said his stupid question to which Scott responded. I prefer Dick Button any day.

  • mannn if he were still competing he would own everyone

  • So true!

  • Great memories. Since Alexei retired no other skater has arrived his level. I miss him very much.

  • No other skater in history was as good as Alexei. He was one of a kind. One we rarely come across. Outstanding skater... :D

  • Scott Hamilton is an idiot, he's getting old and wants to be the next stupid Dick Button.

    Always negative to russian skaters.

  • I fully agree with you. Doesn't help that after watching worlds this year their stupidity only got worse and bias as well..

Sometimes I wish I could just mute the commentators.

  • i agree...I loved this especially: if its third he is third...OMG!!! THIRD?!?!?! I started to understand what they meant when they said he is conservative and not as good as he used to be, but come on...Third??with this amazing program??Under Timothy??" And he thinks hes got it..."well he was right, wasnt he???:D:D

  • Yagudin in his prime...dammm...

    perfection here, I love him!

  • damn, he's cute.

  • i agree. i think Scott said it was "conservative" because he changed the program around and didn't have a second triple axel... but c'mon! 4toe-3toe-2loop?!

  • It was conservative in the context of what the two previous skaters had done...and if you listened to him, Scott even said something along the lines of him being as conservative as you can be with a 4-3-2 and a whole mess of triples.
