  • Lovely piping by Mr. Browne here. The set sounds great in his hands, you'd never know it was 230 years old to hear it!

  • Yep, they're D(-ish)!

But they have tiny little holes, a narrow bore & they pre-date modern "concert pitch" by between 100-150 years depending on where you think that line should be drawn in the sand!

Take a look at an article in Vol.1 of the Seán Reid Society Journal (seanreidsocietyDOTorg)if you'd like more info & pix.

The set also has a MySpace page with a few tunes to hear (myspaceDOTcom/jameskennapipes)

They have incredible tone and "attitude"!!

  • so we highland pipers are not the only one who have problems with the reeds...

  • @apologeticsman there's a reason uilleann pipers came up with the term "the piper's despair". think playing a full set of pipes, with a cane practice chanter reed, that's what they have to deal with.

  • This fellow can play the pipes wish I could pick his brain over a few pints about this beast the uilleann pipes

  • It sounds like this set is in D, but knowing its age it wouldn't be considered concert pitch would it?

  • Does someone have the sheet music for this?

  • @bagpipeplayer "Kitty Got a Klinking on Her Way to the Fair"

  • I was fortunate enough to have been there on the day and seeing this video brings back some nice memories. Excellent!

  • parful stuff,Men. Didn't know there was such thing as a Kenna set in D. Or did you have to tweak it a bit? Gorgeous sound though. Thanks for sharing this.
