Great sounds... please check out my videos and live performances at jasenorthblues and JasonNorthBlues for Blues Boy Kings at reverbnation/bluesboykings
@ctomerlin1 lol They were off! They're all in true bypass loops, which hardwires them out of the signal chain. That intense reverb you're hearing is because I totally failed by doing this demo in a huge empty church. Great for choirs...not so good for hearing overdrive nuances. hehe I've since learned. Thanks for the comment!
The Dano seems to only shine when it's used as a fuzz, which is what I think it's basic circuit is. So you've really got to crank the gain, and pull down the tone knob. Then use the volume as just a volume. That's the best I could do with it. Hope that helps!
how do you get rid of pedals you dont end up keeping? btw ive got a brand new electro harmonix memory man w/ hazarai and a line6 echo park pedal that i'm willing to trade or sell both for $200 if anyones interested let me know
I ended up keeping the Tim for overdrive and the Varidrive for a solo boost. I kept the Zendrive for a while, but ended up replacing it with it's more gainy-voiced brother, the Mosferatu; and I kept the Fuzz Face clone for a while, but eventually replaced it with a Hartman Vintage Germanium Fuzz.
I have yet to try an original 808. I've tried a home 808 mod to my TS7, and Analogman 808 modded TS9, and a Mad Professor Little Green Wonder. I'm just not sure I'm a tubescreamer guy. I do have to say, though, the Little Green Wonder sounds extremely, extremely good.
One of these days I'll have to bite the bullet and go get a vintage 808. Didn't Vaughn play a TS-10, though? Or was it just 808's?
Thanks, man! For me, the secret to the Tim is running it at 12 volts. It says 9 volts on it, but you can run it up to 18 volts without a problem. The 12 volts just increases the clean headroom very nicely.
Also, I use more volume than gain on the controls, and I stay away from other people's settings. IMHO, the Tim shines by letting your own tone through. And the tone controls are very, very sensitive. So the best way is to really set it up with the tone controls to be your tone, overdriven.
I really like your videos. You're getting things out of the Replica that I want to try.
I just received my Tim and won't be able to try it for a week or so, but I was wondering how you have the gain stages set to get a nice, smooth sound similar to your clip?
Sorry I saw this so late! I have the gain on the Tim set very low, just above 9 o'clock. And the volume is around 2 o'clock. And then I set the bass and treble knobs very carefully to match my amp's eq.
Sorry guys, Looks like youtube compressed the video in such a way that there is a volume drop when the gain pedals are engaged, which of course there is not on the original video, before youtube compressed it. Oh ya, and sorry for the crazy reverby room I recorded this in. Thanks for watching.
Ya, I totally messed up by recording this with just the cheeseball camera mic in a huge, empty warehouse-type room. There's delay all over the place. You can even hear delay on my voice, which is running through, of course, no pedals! hehe
So my Memory Lane, which is on at an almost unnoticeable setting, just gets totally washy in this video. Combination of the camera mic and the terrible, empty room.
Will Marshall Bridge work with Marshall MkII in the neck?

DA Fuzz Face clone - is it a kit or some brand? Germanium or silicon?
koolami268 1 year ago
@koolami268 I'm not sure...I got it from some guy on ebay. It looked like he just built it from a schematic. It was germanium. :-)

What is the name of that selector device you're using for all 8 od pedals?

@deezknots1 It's a Loop-Master. :-)

When you do a overdrive shootout, you really need to take out the other effects like delay or reverb.

I threw a burr brown in my Timmy... Doesn't like to boost above unity gain anymore ...but man...the most natural dist/OD ever.

I sell them on e-bay, or on Gear Page. Sometimes I make money, and sometimes I lose a few bucks. So it ends up being about even in the end. :-)

Have you tried a BB preamp and if so do you prefer that or the Zen Drive?
Thanks

I have yet to try a BB preamp. Sorry! I'll put it on my list, though. :-)

have you tried ts 808? 2 ts 808's togather give you SRV tone! if you like that type of tone thats how you get it.

Thanks for this important comparison.
PROBLEM.... discerning musicians want to hear the pedals and NOT the delay!
The tones are way washed in the delay!
I would like to hear more of what the TIM can do and the ZEN drive, without any delay.
You may want to tell just what delay you were using. It did sound neat, but not to listen specifically to the OD pedals.
Thank you,
Keep on rockin' for the KING!
