One question, please, could you tell me how is this recorded to a computer? Or, more specifically, I just need to know how to connect it, what kind of cable do I need? My DS cartridge is already nearly full of songs, and I want to record some of them to make space, but I can't find any tutorials telling me how to do it.
@Johnny123456789x you can go old school and plug into your pc with a 3.5mm dubbing cable. record your real time actions on the ds with music making software that you have running on your pc. plug the one end of the dubbing cable into the head phone jack on the ds and the other into the mic jack on the pc. If you want to hear what your doing on the ds real time get a head phone splitter.
@averoc2012 you can take an 1/8 inch cable, plug it into the ds headphone jack, then plug the other end into the mic jack of your computer, then u can record the ds audio in any recording software
@RobbyHamm DONT FOLLOW TK LINKS UNLESS YOU ARE SURE THEY ARE TRUSTWORTHY. I TRIED TO MAKE MY OWN TK LINK A WHILE AGO, AND THE NEXT DAY 36 MEATSPIN WINDOWS OPENED UP AUTOMATICALLY BeCAUSE OF A VIRUS.
This is one of the most professional amateur reviews I've seen on the web. It's great to hear from someone who sounds both confident and knowledgeable. I don't have a DS but I would consider getting the DS-10 just to have another odd addition to my Korg collection.
Really helpful review, these are down to $15 at used game stores.
Nice to have a musicians take, I am a computer guy trying to get into making music for fun, and playing with things like milky tracker, nitro tracker and little sound DJ.
there is an audio out for headphones, you can use that to link to your PC. don't forget the setting of the recordprogramma otherwise you don't hear anything.
Sadly I broke my DS(it went SS :), but this will be first in my shopping list for the 3DS!
Actually, Korg please make DS-20(with DS-50 too!!!, I would even buy it separately, from example Nintendo online store as an add-on), for 3DS!!! You could use 3DS's analogue joystick as an Korg pitchbend/modualtion joystick!
3DS has so much more processing power, that perhaps you could make a workstation -like sampler/rompler too, that you could integrate with VA-synth.
I got Korg DS-10 Plus for $20 at the local best buy. Best 20 bucks I ever spent :D Also, great review, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's deeply impressed by this little piece of software.
The new version allows for real time editing in song mode.
but....I wouldn't record anything with this fun dual ms-10 emulator over a working production, the sound engine sounds abit too plasticy and digital more often then not. However, I bet this would be fun to use in a live setting.
Thank you for the great review! I became curious, bought the Korg DS-10 and had been happy with it for weeks. But soon the lack of memory (only 16 Patterns to save per Song) was a little problem.
So I am using now additionally the DSiWare "Rytmik".
(it's the european version; USA and Japan are coming soon)
For me it's besides the Korg DS-10 PLUS an enrichment in the DSi-Music-Software-Collection.
Hey my korg ds 10 synth isnt workin on my ds. I t just comes up a load of Asian Lettering and i can't do anything. I got it on a torrent site if that makes a difference?
I have an pretty important question: how would you go about transferring files to a computer, if at all? If you have a dsi or XL could you, perhaps, save a file to an sd card and then transfer it to a program on your computer through a reader? or is there a way to directly connect the ds to a computer? I would greatly appreciate if someone can answer this question.
@culo9999 You have to record the sound out of the your ds headphone jack. Shouldn't be too hard at all. Have a computer with a line in, connect your ds to that and use some recording software and bam your done. Or use a line in a digital video camera than send it to the computer and extract the sound.
How can i record what music I;'m making with it to, say, a computer or anything else that can save these kinds of things so i can later edit them in a program such as garageband?
I agree with you, selecting the number of bars in each pattern and being able to select between 1/4notes, 1/8notes and 1/16notes, playing with the legato it would be AWESOME.
I going to buy a DS and this now...there are really NO other handheld music devices like this (I already own the QY-70...it's too big to travel with).
Nice review ( also see mine! ) Do give Electroplankton a chance - there is interesting music to be made with some of the modules that is far from "canned"
Also the Scales can be quite useful - Kaossilator like, you can come up with interesting melodies
I'm completely new to synthesizers, so sorry for this question, but can the settings be tweaked so the virtual keyboard can output sounds similar to a real piano or am i just kidding myself?
