I have similar specifications as to you, around 9 to 10 MB/sec download, and 1MB/sec upload. It works for me, perhaps with a slower download speed or older computer it doesn't sound good. Not sure .

yeah your computer must just suck ass cuz my magic jack works fine and im on wifi on a desktop and my connection from a router is more than 2,300 feet away and it works like a dream no problems at all i love it couldn't get any better. and yeah you know theres somthing wrong when you got people commenting that theres works fine too so there buddy its your computer u ever think of that..

My mom has similar internet specs. Your upload speed is probably around the 384 KBPS range and that will greatly affect outgoing call quality. Even when I use my vonage device under my mothers internet, the call quality is noticeably decreased. I have an 18MBPS up/2MBPS down using both vonage and my dads magic jack and they both sound crystal clear.
i have high speed internet it works fine with that its the highest speed!! when i had slow service it worked poorly so basically i love it no drop calls or any probs what so ever i would buy it a millon times but only with the highest speed internet!!

Sorry to hear about your issues, you should try it again, im sure its been improved. My friend ordered his, he paid I think it was like 39.99 and +10$ for a Canadian number, called him on it hundreds of times and it works every time i call him, i can leave messages and he gets them all, when im at his house and use it, it works without issues. I looked at my 45$/month phone bill and realized I needed to change, i paid 120$ for 5 years, all US and Canada and all features included. $120/5years
I've been running Magic Jack for half a year now, and I love it. Way better than other VOIP's I've tried. Much less delay and way better quality than Skype and especially Vonage.
You're definitely right though, they don't have all area codes covered yet. Give them time, they'll get there.

First of all, purchase the Majic Jack from a retail outlet like Walgreen's so you can return it. Duh. Second, I tried MJ on three computers. Laptop with XP worked perfectly. MJ on dell desktop with XP worked perfectly. When installed on my home desktop with Vista, it would not work properly. Dropped calls, talking but not hearing, etc... I now installed Windoes7, and it works better than ever. So... where is the problem coming from?
We've had lots of problems with magicjack , it shuts its self off, disconnects during calls, and you have to keep unplugging and repluging it back in to get it to work fog at least ten minutes, what a scam. The owners should be throwing off a roof. Don't waste your money.

I'm curious.. do you have DLS or Cable internet? Obviously the MagicJack's performance is dependent upon the speed and reliability of your internet connection. There are quite a few areas that have poor internet connections - so the magic jack is not for them. There are quite a few areas in the country where cell phones also have a problem with getting robust signals. My beef with the MagicJack is that it interferes with other audio applications running on my computer.
I live in Tacoma Washington and Magic Jack has NO AREA CODES for my state and city..so they tell me to pick an area code in another state ?? My neighbor lives close enough to yell across the yard and she has to make a long distance call to call me the customer support is SHIT there is no phone number to talk directly to the customer support staff

Agreed, my parents got it but i don't really trust it. For all we know, whoever made it could be eavsdropping in calls and people won't even know it, Why else would they make it for internet? you should try to work things out with your ISP and see if there is something wrong with your connection or if you have a house alarm or even a night light in your back yard that comes on. i was told those things can effect its performance. mine works great, sorry for you luck.
Maybe you do not have enough of upload speed?, maybe not the best sound card?, maybe too much processes are running on your computer at the background while you are talking? - or maybe this phone is just a lousy piece of crap from China... Cheap in production, designed for quick sale!
With a Verizon FIOS connection (high speed) I've found that MagicJack works ok. I had to get rid of an echo by going to their site and using the trouble-shooting feature. (My volume settings on my cordless phone were wrong.)
It is incorrect to say that you can't get "connectivity" over the Internet that's as good as a land line; because I also have Skype and a Skype phone, and that one is every bit as good as land line call quality.
@pf1950 I've not used this product, I have used Vonage and Skype, and have used VoIP phones at work. Initially I think my Cable was 256k/1m, or maybe even 512k/1m (that's upload/download speed). I think the minimum you want is like 512k/512k dedicated to the phone when in use. So don't download, play online games, and use the phone at the same time, as it may affect the quality of the sound. Also, I seem to recall the 1st few calls I made sounded modulated, but after a while...

same....i have had the same issues... one issue i found friend was with the router...i forwarded all the ports magic jack reps told me (thru chat lol) and that shit did NOT WORK...so then i was forced to fuck my wireless security over and enable DMZ in my router... plus windows firewall fwrded the ports there (never gave me hell but i did it just incase) then it worked better...ironically i had a 90kb/s wireless now i have a 6mg/s service...it works OK! 1.5MB is not considered high speed internet anymore just so you know. If you contact your cable company they still have that speed. High speed begins at 3MB.

With a Verizon FIOS connection (high speed) I've found that MagicJack works ok. I had to get rid of an echo by going to their site and using the trouble-shooting feature. (My volume settings on my cordless phone were wrong.)
It is incorrect to say that you can't get "connectivity" over the Internet that's as good as a land line; because I also have Skype and a Skype phone, and that one is every bit as good as land line call quality.

@pf1950 I've not used this product, I have used Vonage and Skype, and have used VoIP phones at work. Initially I think my Cable was 256k/1m, or maybe even 512k/1m (that's upload/download speed). I think the minimum you want is like 512k/512k dedicated to the phone when in use. So don't download, play online games, and use the phone at the same time, as it may affect the quality of the sound. Also, I seem to recall the 1st few calls I made sounded modulated, but after a while...

One thing you can try, is if you have a friend with Broadband, try it on their computer. It is possible there is some kind of bottleneck, and your ISP may be able to help with that. It could just be a bad unit. Just a few shots in the dark, since you kept the device... Good Luck. oh, might wanna research google-voice...

same....i have had the same issues... one issue i found friend was with the router...i forwarded all the ports magic jack reps told me (thru chat lol) and that shit did NOT WORK...so then i was forced to fuck my wireless security over and enable DMZ in my router... plus windows firewall fwrded the ports there (never gave me hell but i did it just incase) then it worked better...ironically i had a 90kb/s wireless now i have a 6mg/s service...it works OK! I have a 50/50 attitude w/ MJ

My question is, if you had sent it back to them, why is it on your screen right now. It's a $20 a year service. I doubt they have much money to purchase a ton of numbers. Mine works great (3meg connection) and my little brothers works great (768kb connection) so not sure what your smokin

Because on the tv adds they say they're so sure you'll like it they'll even pay the return shipping. When you text chat to support they all say I pay shipping so I kept it and put up this video!

1.5MB is not considered high speed internet anymore just so you know. If you contact your cable company they still have that speed. High speed begins at 3MB.
