Regarding subtitles, you can rewind a movie. You can't (usually) rewind a game.

The question at 1:30 is really stupid considering 99% of games allow you to turn subtitles on/off. I for one always have them on just in case I didn't catch every word the character said. Not to mention that sometimes there are background noises (in game or otherwise) that distract you from hearing the dialogue.

they are REALLY useful if your first language is not english and characters mumble or talk with spacy voices like here...

I agree with this, some of my flatmates have been foreign, i've watched alot of foreign films, and one of my old flatmates was also born into a family of the deaf, so she's used to it. After a while I just got into the habit of using subtitles and reading them with my peripherals. Also i jokingly like to say how it makes games 3 dimensional, sound, visuals, text.
