  • Reference books (Grove later editions) say there are variations on "Sei Mir Gegrusst" in this 1827 Fantasy. To hear the original 1821 song on You Tube, listen to Yumi Thomas with guitar accompaniment.

  • it's benjamin britten, i think. B00005R1JS on BBC Legends

  • The recording of Adolf busch and Rudolf Serkin playing in this is probably one of the best recordings I have ever come accross, especially as must have been done in complete takes. For me it's a much better version than this, even though I like the playing in this a lot too.

  • Mahgar is correct. this is Benjamin Britten playing piano with Mr. Menuhin

Although technical issues in his right arm trouble Menuhin, the soft, ethereal and mystical music still reaches out to you. A very late work from the genius Schubert at the ripe old age of 30. (He died the following year).

A work of unearthly power and resonance.

  • The Oistrakh/Bauer performance Melodya records was the first I ever heard, and to this day, my favorite.

  • After some segnalation i change the title of this

If someone konw the pianist that play this recording conctat me

  • @MagicDonDino The pianist is Louis Kentner.

  • @poxolo30 Thanks a lot!!

All the best and Happy new year!!

  • @MagicDonDino You´re welcome. Best wishes for you too and Happy New Year!!

  • This is with Britten, not Gould...

  • are you sure?

  • check urself in amazon, or other. surely not gould!

  • and so who play here?

  • This is not Glenn Gould. He never recorded this piece.

  • Are you really sure? Not to hasty conclusions!

  • Would be lovely to hear the full 25+ minute version, with all its intended movements.

For me, by far one of the most beautiful compositions ever. It's basically covers nearly the full range of human emotions, and does it extremely poetically.

I highly recommend listening to this piece in its full lenght, and invest the time and focus to discover its beauty.

  • I agree totally. This is one of the most beautiful compositions I know. There are two wonderful performances: Claude and Pamela Frank are just sublime, ethereal and dreamy. They really bring out the spiritual quality in the music. Jennifer Koh and Reiko Uchida are two young virtuosic musicians with supernaturally expressive powers. Apologies to MajorDonDino, but I can't bear Menuhin's tone, which is uneven and unexpectedly scratchy, causing painful moments when there should be beauty.

  • I've been looking for a full quality performance of this piece on Youtube.

Thank you for being the first!

  • Thanks for uploading, this is one of my favourite music

  • beautiful : )
