was always a favourite but this version has a bit more meat to the sound and a faster tempo. should have been used for the remake. Pity it wasn't a british production like the original. Really like the guitar sound but being a Rory Gallagher fan I suppose that makes sense.
Never mind--figured it out--it's my computer, However, I'd like to point out, Paul--while your bass line fits in quite nicely, try listening to it with the bass Off. I find it to be a bit more haunting and actually like it better. Tell me what you think.
Lots of cool details about this movie are jumbling in my mind, such as the rivalry between Caine and Hendry, whom he beat out for the lead in this film. The foxy women in this "fill-um": I think Glenda was my favorite, just above Margaret, and of course Anna... but even Edna was hot! She wore red underwear.
Thank goodness short skirts are back!
Best line: I'd forgotten your eyes - like two piss-holes in the snow.
Thanks for posting this. It's now one of my Favorites.
Check out Chris Riley's excellent site which gives an unrivalled guide to locations, then and now. Suffice to say there ain't many similarities.. Some people would go somewhere exotic for their holidays, especially on their birthday. Oh no, not me - I spent a few days in the north east with the site as a guide. Glad I got one last look around the car park. A big building but in bad shape.
love the pic of caine at 2;09 it sooo seventies, gritty, gloomy & violent very different times indeed this is my favourite movie love the soundtrack......a bloody funny thing
this has to be one of my favorite scores, films, and of course - what an actor!!! This is a brilliant re working. The world has changed since Carter's time, but isnt that the point - makes no difference to the music. Class - in the best sense of the word, totally in fitting with the picoral content.
Very smooth indeed, with an easy cool and enough edge to be hallucinogenic. Guitar rift is superb beautifully executed with style and stoned aplomb. I like it a lot; this one's a keeper.
That scene at 0:24 looks totally differant now, all the terraces have gone and so had the 'six chimneys' power station accross the River Tyne in the background. The Metrocentre shopping centre stands in it's place now.
i remember living in a flat along Armstrong road looking over towards the spot the metrocentre was being being built. at the time they were pulling down the chimneys. The curch of england owns that land I heard.
cool, i lived in Dunston a little way along from where the metro centre is now on the Gateshead side. I also remember the six chimneys being pulled down (must have been the early 80's I reckon) At that time the Metro Centre site was a vast wasteland and used to be used for motor bike scrambling.
And yes I belive the Church of England does own that land.
@stratfanatic I went round filming the locations today that were used in the film. I have stuck them on my channel which may be of some interest!! Excellent music ....
Great job Paul. Very tastefully done. Cool backing track, strangely doesn't miss the tabla. The hammond (real or sampled, sounds great)and the well chosen dialogue fits perfectly, especially leading into the guitar solo. It would have been so easy to go over the top and spoil the mood, but you held back and performed a tasteful melodic solo with just the right amount of edginess. Didn't mean to make that sound like a review, lol. It just came out that way.
I'm staggered! To me, it sounds 'human' although I thought it was an electronic kit. Did you play all the other instruments as well?
BTW...Youv'e got a great touch and feel on the Strat! I suppose for me, you could play slightly less if anything!(Less being more of course)...Anyway, well done from someone who's quite hard to please!!!!
What a great cover! Hard work to better Roy Budd's version, but this is really classy! You should put it out as a single!!!
