  • You just Got a New Subscridr :D

  • I've been having boot problems with my laptop (it uses Windows 7, btw). None of the system recovery options seem to do anything (even trying to restore factory defaults failed), but the auto-repair thing reports "Root cause: bad hard disk." Conversely, a memory check reported no problems. In any case, my dad has mailed me a Windows 7 disk that should arrive tomorrow that I plan on using for a repair install. Do you think this should be enough, or am I going to have to replace my drive?

  • if mine was that easy then i wouldnt be here

  • I want to tranfer all my data onto another computer how would I do that? The computer that i want to transfer stuff out of has computer power jack broken so I cant charge it until i get it fixed but i want to back up everything so I dont lose anything. is there a way I can do this?

  • ROCKET SCIENCE!

  • So quick question, if I use the hard drive in my toshiba & put it in my acer laptop will it be ok? I just want to be shure before I go messing around with stuff I don't know much about.

  • @AkumiShindo You need to check if the hard drives are of the same brand e.g. SATA/IDE/PATA.

  • @AkumiShindo Hi Akumi yes it is fine for you to put the hard drive from your Toshiba LT in to your Acer LT depending that it is the same type of hard drive, most laptops thesedays take a SATA hard drive rather than an IDE driveso the answer is YES you will be able to transfer the hard drive from computer to another depending that both laptops run with a SATA drive. Hope this helps you. Peace.

  • ok that part i figured out on my own. but like szaszification said.... I didnt know to unplug it one, but now i have an all black screen and don't know how to make it all work again :(

  • I replaced my hard drive but now my laptop is giving me a message, "no bootable device found" what does one do after that??? I know nothing about laptops :(

  • @MANNY100123 lol our youtube names are almost similar!

anyways, you can't just take out a hard drive and put in a new one and expect your pc to continue working, you need to install a new operating system on it, you can get people do do things like that for you :)

  • does your new hard drive have to have an operating system on it or is a hard drive only for storage n' stuff

  • @sanbox242 You'll need an OS on it or the ability to install one on it from a CD or USB pen or similar.

  • if i use the hardrive from my laptop can i use it as an external one?! and how plz respond!

  • @blundt1 You can by cases that they plug into and then attach to the computer via USB, search for "external hard drive case"

  • @RyanfaeScotland thanks i tried this like 3 days ago and it works,im currently using it to download ps3 games ilegally lol jk

  • say I buy a new laptop with 1gb ram and 100gb hdd and decide to upgrade it to 8gb ramd and a 750gb hdd, would I have to reinstall windows and does it come on a cd with the laptop or preinstalled?

  • @ultragacktfan1 I think more laptops these days come with a recovery partition on the hard drive with the installation. What you would want to do is clone your old hard drive onto the new one, and there are many ways of doing that (one way is to get a USB adapter for the new hard drive, and run Linux on a USB stick to dump the contents of the hard drive onto the new one). Assuming your new laptop has a 64-bit version of Windows (which it probably will), your RAM can also be upgraded to 8 GB.

  • It might be cool to mention that you want to turn it off and/or unplug it before starting (a lot of people will watch this and not know what they're doing...then wonder what the hell when it doesn't turn back on). It would be good to include a bit about how to boot it afterward and/or install an OS on it. Just sayin'. If someone already knows all that already - they wouldn't need to watch this video in the first place.

  • Can you replace any laptop's HD?

  • will a one terrabite pc hard drive fit in to a acer aspire one ? abit of a stupid question realy

  • Fuck yeah! Replacing mah mechanical with an SSD! Booyeah

  • Thanks for the video. Sucks I don't have a drill or anything. I hate this screwdriver >_>

  • @eHowTech when its replaced i also have to reinstall windows or do they usually come with them

  • @eHowTexh when its replaced i also have to reinstall windows or do they usually come with them

  • I do want to point out that if i'm not mistaken that is a magnetic screwdriver head. Anything magnetic near a hard drive is BAD! It can cause memory lose and many problems that are bad news bears. Try to avoid using anything with a magnet near your hard drive.

  • @dmantecausa i agree but its faster. Still i don't use one like the one he did on the video.

  • Does it matter if I replaced a Hard Drive already in my 64 bit machine with one from a 32 bit machine?

  • Omfg is this really that easy....DERP

  • Thank you very much for showing me how to do this stuff. I used to think laptops are glued with gum until i watched you unscrew on.

The video really helped me and saved me 100s of dollars. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. God bless u

  • how i transfare all my documents from my hard drive to the new 1?

  • keep up the good work buddy :)

  • My harddrive is ruined. if i get a new hardrive, will i need to but a new copy of windows?

  • @Oddjob23747 yeah pretty much.Or you could torrent it.I have a torrent link if you anwt windows for free XD

  • @shiveringstar21 well my friend has an old hard drive, but i don't know how to format it to work on my laptop. i tried wiping it with dban, but apparently the hard drive needs to be installed. it already has xp on it, but when i tried to boot with it, i got a blue screen. if you know how to either wipe the old drive, or get the old widows xp to boot, that would be awesome!

also, that link would be appreciated!

  • @Oddjob23747 hold on i have to pm it to you

  • This tells you how to physically take out the old one and put in a new one, which any monkey could learn to do, but it doesn't tell you about how to format the new drive so it will work.

  • ...idont get it...

  • what about OS like windows does it come with it i have windows 7 on my laptop and spilled water so its saying its going to stop working any time i have no windows cd thanks

  • My laptop crashed and won't get passed the start up screen. A website said to take out the hard drive and run the laptop. Does that work?

  • can yo switch them so that you have all your stuff like if you have 2 laptops can you switch them both around??

  • @pe2je yes just make sure it is the write size and type.

  • Anybody knows what was that little screwdriver he did a job with?

  • That saved me $40! Thank you sir...

  • Very helpful thanks

  • I've installed my new hard drive, but when I hit the power button to turn it on and restore, nothing happens. What do I do?

  • @sk8rdman What are you trying to restore?? All the data and the OS Is on your old hard drive. Put your own hard drive back in and save the stuff you want to restore to a USB Flash drive then change the hard drive again and restore from the USB Flash drive.

  • @FreeFireGaming Haha, that's totally doesn't help at all. But no matter, I've got it fixed now.

  • WILL IT FIT IN A PS3?

  • @PVHAXDNZz4 Yep the ps3 takes a 2.5 inch hard drive or a solid state hard drive:)

  • question. WIll replacing a harddrive remove any virus on the computer?

  • @taylorzack78 negative sir

  • can you install 1TB hard drive on any laptop?

  • why would they advertise for women's conditioner for a geeky video like this? it's driving me nuts

  • where did you get kind of electric screw driver from?

  • spent 200$ for removing a hardrive when i couldve done it myseld

  • Are all hard disk drives the same?

Say can a HDD from another brand of laptop be transferred and used in another laptop?

What about the users accounts/windows version/etc. Will they remain the same or changed? O_O

  • @tanhuiz if they are the same form factor. You can't put, for example, an ide hard drive into a sata slot.

  • @jpcwa74 I meant, plug into. You can't plug in a sata cable/connector to an ide drive.

  • @jpcwa74

    oh I see, thanks.

Assuming the hdd fits in the slot, do you know if I were to change a hdd from an old comp into a new comp, will I be able to access the old files? Will the windows version/accounts remain the same?

  • @tanhuiz If its a different size its not going to fit.

Also, your harddrive holds all your info, so if you take one from another computer, its going to be all the info that you had on it while it was in a different computer

  • does replacing the hard drive void warranty?

  • I can't find a HDD bay on my laptop. :( Its the kind that has a Disk drive so its NOT the smaller kind its a normal size.

  • cute screw-driver

  • Magnetic screwdriver near a hard drive???? Ohhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! may be trouble ahead.

    Apart from that good video.

  • Can I put the HD from my Fujitsu Lifebook 1010 in my new Acer notebook Aspire One?

How can I just extract files from the Fujitsu Lifebook without inserting it in my Acer computer? I did not back it up on CD before I spilled liquid on it and ruined the Motherboard.

  • @busybuzzbuzz THATS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT TO DO!

  • @busybuzzbuzz You could turn one into an external hard drive or a slave drive. There are plenty of tutorials online on how to do both.

  • @busybuzzbuzz This can all depend on alot of things. Most importantly is the bios of your last laptop. The majority of the times when you put a hard drive in a different computer / laptop there is a need to reformat it because it will not boot properly. I do want to state that sometimes you can get lucky and it will work because the motherboard is either the same company or similar.

  • @busybuzzbuzz search ''filezilla tutorial'' on youtube

  • @busybuzzbuzz i did the same thing, is it possibe to switch harddrives between two didderent model laptops?

  • @ChilFilms yes, sometimes windows won't boot though (as different drivers are on the old HDD compared to the laptop you're putting it on), you may need to do a fresh windows install

  • I am very close to boycotting youtube with all these frickin adverts

  • @busybuzzbuzz

Maybe you should come up with a way to cover the cost of hosting almost one billion videos, at no cost to the user.

  • @busybuzzbuzz it may be annoying but we both know very well neither one of us is prepared to boycott it. this is an amazing website, dont get upset cuz a few adverts. the ancient people wouldve slapped you if they heard you say that lol

  • @busybuzzbuzz wont work, youtube and google are greedy. Plus... remember the youtube blackouts failure?

  • @busybuzzbuzz well the reason there are advertisements on youtube is because it's more popular than tv is now watch tv and pay attention to the commercials sometime there arent as many commercials on tv as there used to be

  • @busybuzzbuzz Advertisment is how youtube lives.

Learn to love advertisment that is how we pay for things without actually paying for them.

  • @busybuzzbuzz Its these gay little advertisements that keep youtube alive.

  • @busybuzzbuzz thats how they get paid

  • @busybuzzbuzz - AdBlock Plus.

  • @busybuzzbuzz Im sorry buddy, but nobody would notice.

  • @busybuzzbuzz What angers me is how people don't realise, that YouTube doesn't put advertisements up without permission. The creator of whoever made the video is asked if he would like to earn revenue from his videos. If he says yes, they put ads on it. That's how they make money. That's how a lot of YouTube'rs make money. Don't deny them of that.

  • @busybuzzbuzz if you have Mozzila Firefox, just download adblocker plus. no more youtube advertisments for me... :D

  • @busybuzzbuzz

    Adblock Plus? :P

  • @geraldtpokemon dont bother telling them that, they most likely use IE :P

  • @busybuzzbuzz what browser are you using?

  • @busybuzzbuzz These advertisements PAY for Youtube! Without them, we'd be paying $10 a month to use it!

Don't be so spoiled. Ignore them or get Ad Block Plus, which is available for Firefox and Chrome.

  • @Dropshock0 ummm.. arent the video posters given the choice of wether or not they want advertisements now )=... I was..

  • @PhenomenalHeadShot Christ, that comment was posted two months ago. Regardless of what the posters chose, ads still pay for YouTube and keep it free.

  • @PhenomenalHeadShot Well YouTube is so low on money so they try to get ads on lots of videos. They get lucky when they put it on music videos cause that's where all the money is.

  • @bigcasey1995 Vevo is annoying the hell out of me.. someone needs to take them down a peg..

  • @Dropshock0 i make money also

  • @busybuzzbuzz AdBlocker Plus is your best friend, if you use google chrome ;D

  • @busybuzzbuzz just get fucking ad blocker its not that difficult to do

  • @busybuzzbuzz no need, just use Firefox or Chrome and get the Adblock Plus addon. No more ads :)

  • Well that didn't really help, I coulda figured that out. I mean, not to be mean, but when you plug in a *NEW* hard drive isn't the a new hardware setup screen you have to go through? And can someone find me a video of how to paste your hard drive files and OS to a new one? So it's EXACTLY the same as the old one, because I need a new one. Mines low on memory, and there isn't enough room in my "tower" case to put a second one in.

  • how do reformat a removed laptop hard drive

  • if i replace my current hard drive, do i need to reinstall windows?

  • @jrew777 yes

  • @jrew777 unless you clone it, yes

  • You must strip an awful lot of screws. The proper way to re-insert a screw in order to avoid stripping it is the start the screw manually by first turning the screw backwards until a small click is heard or felt meaning that the screw is now positioned at the start of the thread. It always makes me cringe every time I see a tech using a power screwdriver to replace screws on a computer. Eventually, the threaded hole will be stripped.

  • is this the same procedure for replacing lHD on LG FD DUAL EXPRESS LAPTOP?

  • Hey, i have a laptop with SATA-150 interface. i wanna upgrade the current 5400rpm drive to one of the 7,200rpm sata drives. my question is will the new 2.5" SATA drives (eg. WD caviar/ Seagate momentus) fit the older SATA-150 on my laptop? thanks

  • @danieljosephHirsch

I know IDE PATAs have adapters to connect LapTop HardDrives to Desktop Systems internally.

But, most newer ones have SATA HardDrives.

There are Usb Adapters that do the same.

Get a cheap arse NetBook or LapTop and a SATA or IDE PATA to Usb Adapter (read your drive to know). Temporally transfer the files over to the NetBook and ReInstall Windows or Linux on your nicer LapTop. If you already have a Desktop, than just get the Usb adapter instead.

  • Comment removed

  • @danieljosephHirsch Your computer stores its operating system, and all of your files on your hard drive. Yes, You would lose all your data, because the new hard drive would come blank, as in your data is on the old drive and not the new.

  • hey um if u do this...ur gna have no opperating system correct?

  • @HK47able Correct, your operating system and all your files are stored on your hard drive. When you install a new drive you'll need to install an OS.

  • Recently bought a used Toshiba laptop. A friend had to order new Windows Vista Home Premuim discs since I didnt get them and the computer was having problems. He fixed it and everything looked alright. Two days later, I am now getting a notice that there is a hard disk problem, and that I need to backup my files. I believe I have backed up the files successfully, but now how do I repair the hard disk?

  • @danieljosephHirsch No you must format the laptop

  • @danieljosephHirsch no you could wipe it then reinstall windows from scratch

  • wat size are laptop hard drives typically like in inches

  • i think replacing ram and a hard drive is two most easiest things to do. i am 15 and when i was 14, my hard drive died. so i got a new one and it only took me like 2-3 mins o replace it.

  • @Jmaniello mine laptop just powers up but the screen stays black. My computer got a virus and i removed the HD and i dont know if there are further damages than just the HD

  • @Jmaniello what should happen when you try to turn a laptop on with no HD

  • @TheGypsykilla It will just load the BIOS screen.

  • will the laptop run with no HD in.

  • @TheGypsykilla no the hard drive has the operating system aka windows, linux, etc and all of the drivers. and music documents, etc.

  • And this has been 'how to ruin 2 hard drives by running a magnet over them'

  • That's right, use a (most likely) magnetic screwdriver with an electric engine (electric engines have magnets) to remove a HARD DRIVE!

    Idiot...

  • @webvid91 the magnet is not too strong so should be okay i use magnetic screw driver this too and so far my harddrive haven shown any problem at all

  • so basically you just remove the plate off your current HD, then when you buy a new one put the new one into the plate to then slide back in. Thanks for the vid. My laptop's hard drive had crashed and I'm looking to replace it, this video was helpful ty.

  • i have a 110gb windows vista hardrive and i want to swap it for a 250gb hardrive from my sister windows vista laptop, if i change it would anything happen to my computer? i am really curios i dont want to brake my new laptop. help??? thanks :)

  • @h4fi3 Its not a good idea to put a hard drive from anohter laptop that has windows installed on it into yours. When windows is installed it installs settings etc for that particular hardware. Mixing them up might cause problems. If you wipe your sisters hard drive first it then install windows it should be fine

  • @nickerless557 thank you for the information :-)

  • if i do this to mine waht do i have to do to run the new hard drive?

mines runnin windows 7 but it only has a 320 gig hard drive, and i want to install a 500 gig hard drive. do i have to run any of the cds that came with my laptop?

  • @ems2k9 You will have to install windows 7 on the new hardrive and then transfer the files over to the new one.

  • This video is useless. You should have talked about upgrading a laptop hard drive and bringing your data over.

  • @TheNewNumberTw0 agreed AND the most important part: shopping for a new drive to BUY THE RIGHT ONE.

  • this was easier than i thought!!

  • I agree, that was fast. Do you have to ground yourself when swapping out hard drives? I'm asking because I have 2 hard drives and right now my laptop won't boot past the windows loading screen because either the OS can't be detected or the hard drives are busted. Thanks

  • Wow that was fast, lol.

  • Is it bad to constantly swap out my harddrives on my laptop?

  • Yes it is bad to swap a hdd, it's more bad if it IDE HDD

  • @SergeKGB sata, and Why

  • IDE you have 40 pins and sata you have like 8pins and 15 for the power.

  • we just repaired sorry if i spell rong im from sweden we repaired the laptop the harddrive had crashd and it work now

  • question, if u replace ur hard drive, does ur pc go blank? do u lose ur Windows vista or 7, or which ever you have?

i know ull lose ur documents, or u dont?

  • @rigorazar25 you will lose everything unless you backup and have a recovery disc

  • thats why you buy an external hdd. cant have one without the other unless you buy one from the beginning.

  • My hard rive went bad for some reason and I had HP send me a new one. Do you know if it usually comes with Windows loaded or will I have to load Windows operating system on the new hard drive?..if so how do I do this ?

  • backing up the OS on my external hard drive will be enough to reinstall it on my new HD? I mean, transferring th OS from the external HD to the new internal HD.

  • I see it was easy here but when I tried to do it on my old laptop it didnt recognized the new HD. then someone told me to move the caddy and something about the adaptor. my old HD doesnt have a caddy and I didnt see any adaptor anywhere.

  • @frenchdweeb999 lmfao if some one don't know where it is the need to put on the helmet on and leave the laptop to smart ppl

  • leave it to the smart people?

    You're a fucking dumbass so I wouldn't be talking.

  • I'm not i dumb ass I'm rebuilding a laptop its easy and its going to have window 7 for free haha

  • Neither of those things makes you not a dumbass.

  • Then what dos ?

  • Your attitude, your spelling, what you say, etc.

  • gOOD

  • My friend just spent 120euro for new hard drive on a dell inspiron, 3 to 4 hrs work he was told

  • Dude this video is a little gay and the reason why is because its so easy a retard can do it for reall but mybe the cpu is a little harder that wood be a good video

  • hey i have a question all hard drives are the same?? or each computer uses different hard drives??

  • well some can be 2.5mm or 2.0mm or some thing like that also newer laptops like to use sata and the older ones like to use ide

  • hey i have that same laptop hah

  • you dont have to back up your system before doing this? does your laptop go ahead and start working normally after this?

  • thats a good one i would like to know the same thing be for i do it

  • Gracias me salvaste de pagar 200BS

Thanks your saved me to pay 125 $

  • Thanks a lot for helping me. I own a MacBook Pro and it came with 2 GB memory. To upgrade to 4 GB, apple charges $200 but I was able to buy the kit for $80 and paid $10 for the screwdriver to do it. Thanks again :)

  • apple milks a lot of money frm consumers!!!!

  • @IowaEngineering they sure do.

  • That looks like a magnetized screw driver, is that safe to use around a hard drive, because it sure doesn't sound safe to me lol

  • it's safe, not magnetic enough to do any damage

  • its safe its just alot of ppl don't like uses them
