Dante in DMC4 failed miserably in his so called "comedy" putdowns, and badassy....ness, and the whole game itself was a letdown. I loved Dante in DMC1 and 3. But I'm glad I can step back and see a turd when I see one.

@sakura12grete It's been confirmed that DmC is a spinoff that takes place in an alternate universe so that's good that it won't mess with the canon of the real games. As for Nero, I like him but even if you don't I think we can all agree that the new Dante in DmC is kind of lame.
Yeah, I am with you on the whole Nero being like a carbon copy, but his character is more in depth when it comes to dramatic situations. The contrast between the angry dramatic Nero and the stylish "I don't give a fuck" badass Dante seems like a good idea. Nero just needed to look NOT like Dante and have his arm be Virgil's remnant powers. Then the game would be more interesting storywise.
alphaomegasin is right, the company that made dmc 4 could have easily just given dante the arm and use it as a different fighting style like his other ones. They even could call it the same exact name. The whole thing with nero was " a jacked up notion of fare play".
Nero was alright, although i really didnt like how they made him look just like dante, PLUS he do try to talk shit like dante. he did kinda whine alot. however i WOULD prefer dante over him anyday.
Dante was way stronger. He didn't use his devil trigger or his other weapons and he still won. He also could've killed the final boss easily but he fooled around until nero decided to actually do something.
I liked Nero. He brought a different mechanic and different combos. He also continues the bloodline of Sparda and raises questions about why he is of spardas bloodline.

Now that I think about it he doesn't really serve any real purpose. I can think of a couple things though. One is is him being linked to Vergil through Yamato, and two.. Well he was a unique take on the franchise gameplay wise. The way he plays is pretty different from Dante, since they boast different weapons and such. Like I said, I never really thought about it when playing the game.
As for his looks.. I think they HAD to make him look like Dante, or else he wouldn't be a "DMC character".
@S3iG4kU Well according TO Capcom he was supposed to be Vergil's Son. This was reported by an employee who worked on the "Localization" of the game and he reported that the original intention was that nero was supposed to originally Be Vergil's kid. I mean you'd think that Capcom would have actually put that little tidbit into their game you know? its kind of important to state. As far difference goes, the only notable difference was his DB. Which in my opinion isnt that impressive.
Changed things up a bit though. They should add Nero's "devil bringer" in the next installment of DMC, being well...DMC. Well the "snatch" ability at least. Not a lot of people are taking kindly to the reboot though. Myself? I'm actually kinda looking forward to it, and how it turns out.

Like Alpha said he could have easily written Nero out and still introduced a new gameplay mechanism. It's been done before I don't see any reason why they needed to replace the main guy when he works just fine in the series. Its just lazy game designing to me. Then again I haven't been happy with a LOT of Capcom's game with the exception of the SF series.

But another big complaint was that people still wanted to play as Dante. You can't Deny that this pretty much Split the DMC fanbase in half. Nero's reaction was pretty mixed when it came to his debut. The people who wanted to play as Dante got screwed over. I mean we only go to play a handful of stages as the namesake character? Thats just low.

BTW, dante has never gone off and screwed some random whore, and to think he is like that, I think your misreading his character. also, no they could not change dante's complex move set to have his arm abilities unless they added it into his basic sword combos. the game was nigh flawless and had unity.

Nero was not needed in dmc4 because In the cannon storyline Dante has already surpassed Sparda,So if Sanctus was trying to gain sparda's power , it wud have not made any difference at all! Therefore Nero and his crying and screaming was not needed! And Dante ended up having 2 rescue Nero anyway!
Yes Dmc2 was Awsome ! It introduce Dante's styles ,the coolest D.T. forms and the music was top notch! little known fact: The team that develop 2 also work on 3!

Most Nero fanboys can't play with Dante because he doesn't have an instant killing move like the Devil Bringer and they don't know how to make real combos. I myself can play with both characters, I like Dante more because he has more variety in his moves than Nero.
Lady is hot!, but shes really not needed ! In the 1st game dante has never even heard of her or mention her ,and to be honest Dante's first real partner was trish ! According to the 1st game anyways. but the trip part is they still kept her and trish in the Anime Series. trish i understand why Lady tho?

She knew him longer but due to how the game timeline was structured, Lady wouldn't be mentioned in the first game since the third game wasn't created. I think the order for the games and anime is: 3, 1, anime, 4 and 2.

Heres how i see it. Nero is a new character that was introduced to the franchise in order to bridge together DMC3 and DMC2(because 2 is the last one when you put it in storyline terms). With Nero you get cool catch phrases, an arm that can make any enemy your bitch, and the voice of Ichigo from Bleach(no seriously, same voice actor). With Dante you get your guns and a sword and thats it. I like playing as Dante more cause its challenging, the game isnt a pushover like it is when playing as Nero.
in my opinion, nero was introduced so as to introduce new mechanics while not permanently changing dante. for that neros ok. besides, his whinig is phoney (sort of). still this is better than I thaught it would be
Nero's not too bad. Although, I wish Dante got an equal share of missions in DMC4. The Devil Bringer would seem like a gimmick if it were just an attachment for Dante (Gilgamesh serves its purpose as his close-combat weapon.). Nero certainly brought a good amount of human depth and emotions to the game, but as proven throughout the story, only Dante should be the main protagonist for now. Nero is more like a successor should anything happen to Dante (Unlikely). Overall, I don't mind Nero.
Even though I don't want to defend Nero as he gets on my nerves as well; I actually do think he is supposed to be the reincarnation of Vergil. I mean, Vergil as that evil knight is named Nelo Angelo - which is a miss-spelling of Nero Angelo. It all could make sense... sort of.
If nero truly had sparda's blood coursing in his veins he wouldnt even use the Devil. B gauntlet , Devil.B gauntlet the name explains what it does already , whoever where's it is enchantanted with demon power , with Sparda's sword u take on a form Sparda 's power itself and the knowledge of Yamaoto . wiki info...
But in Radien's defense he turned out to be a Beast, when i learned about his past growing up as a Child solider , he kill record was so intense he was nicknamed White Devil and Jack the Ripper!
Sanctus needed sparda's power which is in Vergil's Sword and since nero is enchanted with those powers it was enough to complete the savior ! Nero does not Have Sparda's blood in his veins, never had! If he did he wud have never needed dante's help in the first place. the biggest complaint I had about this game was why the fuck didn't they include the story of how nero got the devil bringer in the game insteadd of having 2 fucking short paragraphs in the manual that were vague as hell!!

Hideki kamiya has said that his dante only appears in the first 2 titles. Then he left for platinum games and created bayonetta.

Yeah, I am with you on the whole Nero being like a carbon copy, but his character is more in depth when it comes to dramatic situations. The contrast between the angry dramatic Nero and the stylish "I don't give a fuck" badass Dante seems like a good idea. Nero just needed to look NOT like Dante and have his arm be Virgil's remnant powers. Then the game would be more interesting storywise.

Now that I think about it he doesn't really serve any real purpose. I can think of a couple things though. One is is him being linked to Vergil through Yamato, and two.. Well he was a unique take on the franchise gameplay wise. The way he plays is pretty different from Dante, since they boast different weapons and such. Like I said, I never really thought about it when playing the game.
As for his looks.. I think they HAD to make him look like Dante, or else he wouldn't be a "DMC character".

This was reported by an employee who worked on the "Localization" of the game and he reported that the original intention was that nero was supposed to originally Be Vergil's kid. I mean you'd think that Capcom would have actually put that little tidbit into their game you know? its kind of important to state. As far difference goes, the only notable difference was his DB. Which in my opinion isnt that impressive.

Like Alpha said he could have easily written Nero out and still introduced a new gameplay mechanism. It's been done before I don't see any reason why they needed to replace the main guy when he works just fine in the series. Its just lazy game designing to me. Then again I haven't been happy with a LOT of Capcom's game with the exception of the SF series.

well, maybe they look similar because Nero obviously has a connection to vergil, and is likely related to dante....why do you care so much? he is the second protagonist, and was tied in nicely. BTW, dante has never gone off and screwed some random whore, and to think he is like that, I think your misreading his character. also, no they could not change dante's complex move set to have his arm abilities unless they added it into his basic sword combos. the game was nigh flawless and had unity.

Lady is hot!, but shes really not needed ! In the 1st game dante has never even heard of her or mention her ,and to be honest Dante's first real partner was trish ! According to the 1st game anyways. but the trip part is they still kept her and trish in the Anime Series. trish i understand why Lady tho?

@TheSorrow696 Dante met Lady in the third game, which took place before the first game when Dante first started his business as a demon hunter. She knew him longer but due to how the game timeline was structured, Lady wouldn't be mentioned in the first game since the third game wasn't created. I think the order for the games and anime is: 3, 1, anime, 4 and 2.

Yeah Nero is just another side character ,kinda like Lucia in DMC 2 ! I loved playing as Dante on 4 , i mean its like playing as God!! if for some reason u die while as Dante, u dnt deserve to control him! How can suck with Level 3 Trickster,SwordMaster,Gunslinger,Dreadnought Royal Guard Devil Trigger, and DarkSlayer I mean jesus fucking christ! and lets not forget his Hellish Devil Arm Weapons!! Nero doesnt stand a chance!

i agree with you, like nero is a cool character but he could be an optional player. if anything id dante gets old(god fears the day) nero would be his son, thats actually who i thought he was at first, given the similarities.

Heres how i see it. Nero is a new character that was introduced to the franchise in order to bridge together DMC3 and DMC2(because 2 is the last one when you put it in storyline terms). With Nero you get cool catch phrases, an arm that can make any enemy your bitch, and the voice of Ichigo from Bleach(no seriously, same voice actor). With Dante you get your guns and a sword and thats it. I like playing as Dante more cause its challenging, the game isnt a pushover like it is when playing as Nero.

in my opinion, nero was introduced so as to introduce new mechanics while not permanently changing dante. for that neros ok. besides, his whinig is phoney (sort of). still this is better than I thaught it would be

Nero's not too bad. Although, I wish Dante got an equal share of missions in DMC4. The Devil Bringer would seem like a gimmick if it were just an attachment for Dante (Gilgamesh serves its purpose as his close-combat weapon.). Nero certainly brought a good amount of human depth and emotions to the game, but as proven throughout the story, only Dante should be the main protagonist for now. Nero is more like a successor should anything happen to Dante (Unlikely). Overall, I don't mind Nero.

Even though I don't want to defend Nero as he gets on my nerves as well; I actually do think he is supposed to be the reincarnation of Vergil. I mean, Vergil as that evil knight is named Nelo Angelo - which is a miss-spelling of Nero Angelo. It all could make sense... sort of.

If nero truly had sparda's blood coursing in his veins he wouldnt even use the Devil. B gauntlet , Devil.B gauntlet the name explains what it does already , whoever where's it is enchantanted with demon power , with Sparda's sword u take on a form Sparda 's power itself and the knowledge of Yamaoto . wiki info...

Sanctus needed sparda's power which is in Vergil's Sword and since nero is enchanted with those powers it was enough to complete the savior ! Nero does not Have Sparda's blood in his veins, never had! If he did he wud have never needed dante's help in the first place. But i still think he was a okay character , kinda of a copycat tho and crybaby! Just how Radien was in Mgs 2!

@DevilMayCry7NERO if that was true Nero would already have a devil trigger inside him to begin with! Nero is enchanted with powers becuz of the devil gauntlet on his arm without that he is just a mere mortal , Having Vergil's sword is just icing on the cake, and even with those powers he still couldnt touch Dante in that second fight,Nero said it himself, that Dante was just toying with him the whole time!

To be completely honest i like Nero more than Dante.Why you ask?Well hes not immortal so his life is actually in danger while Dantes isnt.Plus i was getting sick of Dante.Also he has a cool demon arm.When he comes close to dying his devil trigger kicks in.I just think Nero is more badass.

@TheSorrow696 yes it does.... remember that Sanctus the main boss of Dmc4 said that he needed Sparda's blood to complete the saviour but since Dante was to hard to get he had to get Nero and he even says that Nero has Sparda's blood. and Nero is the same as dante half demon half human the only thing that he lacks is the devil trigger. but he later gets Yamato and problem solved.

I don't hate Nero, I found him adorable, but I do agree with you, he was just a copy of the epcially cool Dante.
Though, DMC is about the remaining blood-line of Sparda, hence Dante, Vergil (well....you know what I mean), and now Nero.

just a little bit about the raiden thing.
yeah i was pretty pissed off in mgs2 wheni was finished the tanker mission.
so yeah. the game was great but the main charcater wasn't.
what they should have done is introduced him as a secondry character with a small mission (Tanker?) and then u take over as snake for the rest of the game.
that said, even though i hated raiden to begin with, when i saw him in mgs4 i thought WOW what the fuck happened to him? he's all badass.
cant wait for MGS Rising.

nero is a playable character. you play as him and get all bitchy with dante and have a big fight and go against eachother. then u play as dante for a while and then swtch again. in the end they kinda team up.
