There are definitely similarities, but when I heard "As If", I wasnt thinking "Hey that sounds like Breathe by Michelle Branch. I wouldn't quite call it plagiarism.

EVERYBODY. Check the pivot man: the missing link is John Shanks. He co-wrote BOTH songs!
Also the bridge from Def Leppard 's Pour Some Sugar On Me is put into Bryan Adams' (Everything I Do) I Do It For You. Who is the co-producer and co-writer for BOTH? Robert 'Mutt' Lange!
Not nearly similar enough by any stretch to be called plagerism. The leading note there is prominent in both songs, and the tempos are similar, but this very common in pop music.
Ok the rythym of the song is the same in my opinion and probably the same chords.....but i really like breathe by michelle branch so ide probably like this song to LOL
I could name plenty of songs that sound similar but this isn't plagiarism - it could only be copyright theft - the composer of the song that was written first is the only person(s) who could raise this as an isue. Also, as long as the melody is accepted as commonplace - which it probably is - then it won't be possible to take action. Now i'm exhausted! What do I know?
a lot of times they artists work together as far as tunes and that because sometimes a tune that's already been used works best for a new song and etc..
Those tunes do sound similar, but they have entirely different words. And the melodies are similar, but not identical. I'd call that coincidence. Sara wrote "As If." I'm sure any similarities to a previously released song were unintentional. Besides, she's written so many great songs all by herself - why would she even need to stoop to plagiarism?
i would call it "Playgarism" if they were the same words, but not the same tune because everyone kinda borrows tunes. After all, nothing is new under the sun. :)
It is interesting how that worked out... HOWEVER!!!
JUst because a song uses similar chord progressions and a similar key doesn't mean that they are stealing or recycling. Also, the bass lines and the key have obvious as well as subtle differences...
You can take almost any pop song these days back to the original Desmond Child....Living on a Prayer...try it, you can sing this Bon Jovi classic over almost anything. Country music is notoriously stealing from pop artists and vice versa...the music business is disgusting like that.
I disagree with accusation of plagarism in this case but who can deny that similarity sells. It's no coincidence that bands like Theory of a Deadman and Nickelback hit at the same time. It's no coincidence that bands like Simple Plan and artists like Avril Lavigne continue to crank out songs that sound almost interchangeable. Just my opinion.
The chorus is also very similar to Liz Phair's "Extraordinary", but I don't think you can say plagarism. The vast majority of pop songs rely on maybe 20 chords out of 1000's, so chord sequences tend get repeated.
They had the same producer JOHN SHANKS, but Sara's song is 10000% better than Branch's and the similitude is barely in the melody, anyway blame Shanks!!!
IF us ckassuc if Sara's songs, listen to the melody, and her other songs, give it up already, there is no rip off at all! Use your imigination and create a worthy video as this is nonsense!
short answer: no.
