Sure, it's the same riff but they are one of the few metalcore bands that actually matter in the genre that has been invaded by the ever horrible lolbreakdowncore. Anyways I found this hilarious
as a guitarist i don't really find this funny. palm mutes are pretty important, and using a lot of them doesn't make you unoriginal. yes it's all the same note... because they're tuned down to that note, obviously.
@aarongtr180 No matter how complex your song is, if there is no simplicity to it at all, it will be unlistenable. A good artist can fuse original and complex riffs with simple riffs to create a good balance ... and then there are pricks who think the only kind of good music is technical and shred metal. It's just the whole "Heavier than thou" shit that some people use, and it's fucking retarded.
@ScottySolace It's chugging on an open string. There's nothing "simple" or "complex" about it, it's just chugging. Sure, metal uses a lot of palm-muting. But metalcore/deathcore is based on palm muting the open sixth-string (the "breakdown"), and it gets boring after about three seconds. If I want good simple music, I'll listen to Burzum or something along those lines. It seems like metalcore/deathcore is often a competition to see who can chug on an open string for the longest time.
@aarongtr180 I hate deathcore and I only like specific metalcore artists because 80% of metalcore is generic. The other 20% however is pretty awesome. Just because a band has a little chugging doesn't mean that the rest of the song isn't original. Take a look at meshuggah... they're the GODS of metal (and if you disagree with that, you're not a metalhead at all) and they made their 'chugs' original with extreme/irrational rhythms. It's not the genre, it's the band.
@ScottySolace I'd rather listen to an entire original song than a song that's partly original and partly mindless breakdowns. And I know that Meshuggah chugs, but in an original way, and I like them, but as a fan of that band I can tell you that they're overrated and are in no way gods of metal. The "gods of metal", as I consider them, are the pioneering bands like Death, Autopsy, Morbid Angel, Ulver, Darkthrone, etc. They didn't have the formulaic crap that's in most popular metal today.
@aarongtr180 They're overrated for sure. But it's a different kind of overrated I'd say. Most people still don't even know who they are, despite the huge "djent revolution" or whatever you want to call it.
@ScottySolace Yeah, I was always impressed that they were the only metal band no one could really classify. But now there's a whole ton of "djent" bands blatantly ripping off their sound that I'm not impressed with in the slightest.
I don't think listening to 10 seconds of pieces of songs tells you anything about a band.

@aarongtr180 Yeah. Periphery is great, they made their own sound. A few others are good too. But most are dumb. lol

@DiscoRByrno
It's not a B minor.
it's called a B5 or just a B power chord.
a Bminor is something totally different. a Bminor power chord does not exist.

There should probably have been at least one second of weedly-weedly or something melodic in there.

You should do one of these with Heaven Shall Burn. I only keep one of their songs on my iPod, because they all sound the same.
