  • The woman at the end is wrong - he is talking about what he lost and missed

  • sad end for him

  • Mr Gaeta?

  • this guys a comedian?

  • but this guy is not funny..... :(

  • Lenny Bruce was a famous dolphin right?

  • louis ck is getting up there with the best ever. Dave Chappelle would be too if he would come up with new material instead of getting scared away to Africa by fame...

  • @tpstrat14 He died... like 6 years ago...

  • @tpstrat14 Stanhope come on...CK is funny as hell but his material is as scarce as Chappelle and Hicks.

  • @Konicava Scarce?!~?!!You gotta keep looking cause out of the 10 or so comics that I have really delved into, Louis CK has BY FAR the most material. That includes Hicks, Chappelle, Mitch Hedburg, Carlin, Pryor, Gaffigan (he has like an hour). There is at least 8 hours straight of GOLDEN Louis CK originality.

  • @tpstrat14 You're so wrong, CK has done 2 hbo specials while Carlin did how many? 7? CK has no new material, I watched Hilarious, Chewed up, Live at Beacon and then what? You probably know you're wrong, and having more material than Hicks and Chappelle is not that hard, now more than Carlin who could entertain a massive crowd for more than 8 hours straight without repeating a single joke, thats tough.

  • @Konicava Let's get you goin in the right direction. You thinking Louis CK has three hours of work makes me cry. You forgot shameless, his two BRILLIANT sitcoms (they do use his standup) and HOURS of original, GOLDEN material in random youtube clips. (opie and anthony show, various talk shows, interviews.. you can go ahead and look him up) Not trying to argue, I just feel sorry for you that you don't already know this.... especially considering you find him "funny as hell"..

  • @tpstrat14 Yeah thats true about shameless, but interviews aren't material, when a comedian talks its material? No way, material is only what he uses in his sketches, and ok he had a show, now lets get Carlin, he had a show also, which I didn't care about much, hours and hours of materials, many hbo specials, his audiobook lasted like 7 and a half hours, not to say his other material and tapes, one that actually made CK into who he is as a comedian, CK has half of Carlin's material.

  • @tpstrat14 Not to say he sucks, actually he is in my opinion one of the funniest stand up comedians alive today, but you can't compare him to Carlin yet, Carlin is still the stand up comedy mastermind, then Hicks I believe who inspired Carlin also.

  • @Konicava OK. I wasn't trying to start any argument. I just hope you know that there's a SHITLOAD of hilarious Louis CK youtube clips where he comes up with bits on the spot and WILL make you shit your pants. I guess if it's off the cuff, it doesn't count? Hmm....

  • @Konicava Hey, I JUST found two new clips. One is Louis CK giving dating advice to some guy and the other is an interview where Louis had just had a vasectomy and admits it on air. This is the kind of new stuff I find every single day from this guy. lol I can't fucking believe you said his material is scarce. If there was one comic in the history of mankind whose comedy ISN'T scarce that would be Louis CK's....

  • Hey, who's the woman at the end?

  • Comedy's great tragic genius. He could make you laugh, cry and think in a 3 minute bit. George Carlin was brilliant, but Lenny was the original and the greatest of the thinking man's comedians.

  • "The first thing Hitler did was get rid of the comedians."-Eric Idle. RIP lenny Bruce they couldn't kill your spirit brother.

  • Joe Rogan, Doug Stanhope.. who am I missing of the torch bearers, probably several more. The word is spreading =)

  • fucking conservative fascist american government came down upon the poor man so hard that he died ....

  • wow

  • yes but dear Lenny didn't end up happy, wealthy and wise but lonely, destroyed and ravaged by drugs and a screwed up system that still exists today that showed him no mercy, RIP

  • People in suburbs like to talk a lot.

  • @misestrelka Yes, it's a sort of subconscious need to verbalize their worthiness of being alive, even though the father runs a slave factory and mom has her PTA and society for matrons of finer things, which include the stamping out of education on sex or on the fact there exists such a thing as a black man. Dirty consciences speak by way of meaningless talk, by way of talk shows, by way of 'reality' TV, by way of karaoke and dancing celebrity shows, lacking any culture, lacking any soul...

  • I never used to think Lenny Bruce was funny either. It took me a while to gain some insight, but here it is: if you aren't paying attention you'll miss the funny bits. And you really are missing out.

  • Hicks, Lenny and Carlin - pure comedy gold

  • @rude1987 Richard Pryor, too! :')

  • @rude1987 Don't forget Pryor.

  • @rude1987 Don't forget L. CK

  • @rude1987 BILL HICKS!

  • can anyone tell me the name of the song that was played while he was performing this?

  • I wish people still talked like this you know. They'd get all excited and the more exciting something was the faster they spoke and you could always understand what they were saying

  • @Deanrants

    Lenny Bruce was never funny.

  • @Blahblobify He was the birth of free speech humor, Without him there is no Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, Steve Martin, In Living Color...think before you speak dumb-ass.

  • @roadtraveler68 i wish there was no eddie murphy!

  • @roadtraveler68 i wish there was no eddie murphy!

  • Joe Rogan

  • "such a joy to be alone" - yes I agree wholeheartedly (with the qualification that as long as I don't have to listen to other people's damn noise). Mr. Bruce you are awesome!!! Now my favourite comediene!!! Definitely favorited!!!

  • what year is this frrom?

  • It's a terrible shame that the American SYSTEM killed this slightly beautiful man.

  • Comment removed

  • @intherein But we produced him, too.

  • @dietrite123 of course. USA is the no.1 Artist factory - but your system should stop killing your beautiful product.

  • @intherein In such places of denial, fascism behind the mask of 'patriotism' is where art has been perhaps the only lifeline, the reason perhaps more Columbines have not occurred. But a wind is felt right now, and it's not deniable, a change is here, and enough is enough...

  • This brings tears to my eyes.

  • thx for posting this.

lennie is one of my personal prophets.

  • Hicks, Carlin, Bruce and Pryor, and maybe The Beatles too, are all I'll ever need.

  • LEAVE LENNY BRUCE ALONE!

  • Oh baby where is my honey?

  • Stupid bitch.

  • this is brilliant :)

  • the comics said, he took all the hits for freedom of speech he went through hell. and opened the door for the rest of them.

  • @c64c64c64 - Correction: Honey Bruce, aka Hot Honey Harlow Bruce. Google it, dumbshit.

  • @kynandog

    correction: i got a boner

  • wow the 12 people who disliked this must be feeling pretty stupid now haha

  • honorably discharged from the navy for wearing angora sweaters

  • man he died on my birthday--never have celebrated it since

  • To allxsuccess. Why do you think he sucked?

  • I don't get the big deal with this guy. Because I am a lifelong fan of good standup comedy and satire I decided to listen to lenny's albums and wow…this guy sucks harder than a Thai hooker. Lenny bruce wasn't arrested for indecency, he was arrested for wasting people's time. He was not funny and his satire sounds more like the ramblings of a retard. I only heard his work after watching the "Lenny" biopic with Dustin Hoffman, which was better than listening to anything the real lenny did.

  • @allxsuccess

You are fucking stupid. You don't understand a damn thing. You should just shut the fuck up. Lenny is was and always shall be just about the greatest of all time. Nobody beats him.... YOU SUCK!

  • @allxsuccess ..your a peA brain....oh, and a FuckinG Idiot

  • He looks like David Sedaris.

  • Does anyone know the date of this performance? It looks like his pre-strip club days when he was doing 'straight' stuff, but any further precision would be appreciated (doing research on it)

  • Trying to get over my first breakup and this helps so much

  • I had no idea he could also have been a lounge singer. Handsome guy.

  • LMAO!!

  • Has anyone else noticed that Martin Short looks just like Lenny Bruce?

  • @Eproctophil yep

  • lenny <3

  • The majority of people are so much more interested in comfortable untruth rather than uncomfortable truth.

  • What year was this made?

  • can never watch too much lenny at once these days...just gets me too emotional!

this man was a Modern Day Jesus! yea I said it! Although not entirely knowing it, he died for us all ...

  • @Resenbrink You're a narrow-minded simpleton. I hope you break your leg and become addicted to lortabs.

  • @Skizla - blah blah blah.

  • The world I live in, and the world you live in looks at this as a moment in time. But this is fantastically brilliant. That's all I got.

  • a person worthy of being considered a hero. he really tried to be true to himself. a very hard job at any time, and especially those days

  • So beautiful and tender and poignant. Ah Lenny, this world was not meant for you. You're somewhere else, in a better place, where you don't have to defend yourself and you're free to comment on humanity's hypocrisies all you want!

  • The mask of the classic clown...Lenny Bruce...comedy and tragedy in one human soul. The most powerful country on earth...authority couldn't tolerate one tiny insignificant human voice? a comedic one at that...simply because other Americans not only could but enjoyed the humor it contained who also saw value in their constitution...one that allowed "freedom of speech." How was it this one American was denied this right?

  • @russocomedy Seems to me that every debated issue ends up with a pioneer for the cause, who is intelligent enough to realize that change won't come until a grand stand is taken. These people are self sacrificing enough to put themselves forward knowing their sacrifice may not benefit them in the present, but those in the future. I count Kevorkian among the pioneers.

Much gratitude for the upload :-)

  • @russocomedy

Good point, sad times...thanks..I wish I could find a version of Lenny's bit about the "..half woman, half man..." from when he was a kid, and he went to 42nd St., and at the arcade, the freak show, was this person...so funny...maybe I can find it, I have a few of his LPs...Thanks Russo

  • Brilliant...I know it sounds strange, but he reminds me of a more sober, alert, and clean-cut Thom Yorke...

  • both a book and a stand up comedy express someone else's idea...whats one got that the other doesn't?

  • Most books are fiction

    even the historical ones

Comedians talk about whats going on now

  • Comment removed

  • If this is not a perfect performance, then perfect performances do not exist.

  • wow bill hicks prity much covered this bit from lenny

  • he stole the bit about the electric chair too..the idea that if jesus had been killed in the 20th century christians would be walking around with electric chairs on their necks..only he added a little saying can you imagine people paying tribute to kennedy by wearing little sniper rifles round their necks...

  • c64

she looks pretty good for someone who is probably sixty five by now She was probably a stunner when younger and what PRAY TELL did she say that was so "annoyingly stupid" the truth?

yes it can be annoying cant it?

  • @c64c64c64 - Vicious mean-hearted assholes like you deserve calling out. Kitty Bruce was one of the hottest pieces of ass to ever walk the streets of America. The closest you'll ever get to a broad as scorching and sensual as Kitty Bruce in her prime is the DVDs you whack your pud to. Your "annoyingly stupid" comment is pure projection of your own self-image. You're destined to die alone, and deservedly so.

  • i listen to this every day. im so lonely. thank god for booz.

  • @blaketrentz: you can't drown your sorrows in alcohol bro because sorrows know how to swim.

  • @blaketrent i hear you (sounds dumb but you get my drift)

  • blake typed this i dont drink booz. this is trent i go out and hangout with different people to forget about bad stuff and learn more things.

  • An original. Never been one like him since! This is beautiful!

  • ^ what's wrong with America

  • @iChesus Only a true Lenny Bruce fan (or a fan of logic at least) would have seen through my bullshit. I am a huge Bruce fan and I was trollin' with my last comment. A Jeff Dunham fan wouldn't have the ability to form basic sentence structure.

  • I love deep comedy with social commentary. It clears my head. It's like healthfood. I have a interest in life and the world around me, and I'm not afraid to be kicked mentally in the gut from time to time if it helps me realise something important and help me prospher as a person. But I also like to have a slize of pizza from time to time, and watch Jeff Dunham.

  • @Wowbagger86 I understand what you mean and I attribute this to your age. As you get older you will appreciate Lenny Bruce and the Bill Hicks even more and eat pizza a little less. Why does pizza have to be the metaphor, shit i'm from Jersey and I love pizza!

  • I really appreciate Bill Hicks, have a couple DVD's. I must admit I have seen more of him than Lenny Bruce though, but I like what I've seen so far. If you have recomandations of more good comedians please tell me :)

Lol, yeah it was a stupid metaphor. I was thinking about the horrible pizza's at hugh snackfood chains. I made a liar of myself there cause I actually hate those, especialy since I used to be a delivery boy ;) But I can imagine that a real fresh baked Jersey pizza is top knotch.

  • @Wowbagger86 Lewis Black, David Cross, and Patton Oswalt is what I can name off of the top of my head for good comedians in my opinion. As far as great pizza although it's really good in Jersey, it is not a tourist friendly state but if you ever vacation to NYC you will have a hard time finding a pizzeria that sucks. PEACE.

  • I'll chck them out, cheers! And even thoug Jersey might not have to many internationaly famous attracktions, at least that I have heard of, If there's hospitable people there I recon I would call it tourist friendly by my standards. It's a long journey for a pizza though, I could order it online perhaps but I fear it would get cold ;)

  • To add a comedian recommendation, I'd throw in Louis CK, since I think he's the best living comedian. Sadly, I don't know anyone out there who's like Hicks or Bruce anymore. CK, like them, is smart in addition to funny, but he doesn't have the umph to the same extent--he doesn't convey a strong point of view. But, man, he is hilarious.

  • Cheers man, I'll check him out

  • I like Bill Maher. He has the same questioning look at the way the world is, and he's very funny and smart. Jon Stewart is also good when he does stand-up.

CK is good but there are many others that are just as good, and some that are better than him.

I LOVE Lenny Bruce. He is my favorite comedian of all time, and probably favorite person of all time. It is sad that he isn't very well known anymore. My parents did't even know who he was.

  • @Tzadeck

Thanks for dropping info about Louis CK. I just watched a bunch of his stuff, and damn he's great. Can't believe I didn't know about him already.

  • Glad to be of help! That guy can make me laugh a good deal. I personally like his HBO specials the best (Shameless and Chewed-up), but if you don't mind offensive stuff another good treat is a video of his on Youtube called: Louis CK standup clip at "Cinema Classics in NYC 8/3/04"

  • @Tzadeck I would say Doug Stanhope is like Hicks and Bruce but leaning towards a more nihilistic take on the world. Still a great guy.

  • Watch out for PirateNews... It's the dawn of aquarius, biiiiiiaaatch.

    Peace.

  • im just a teenager.. but even I know that all this shit on T.V nowadays is garbage. When I watch the greats like Carlin and Bruce I can really relate to what they are saying. The world seems to make so much more sense...

  • @Kizzymorgan You really think that lenny bruce is comedy? THat's pretty sad. He sucked!

  • @Kizzymorgan every video older than 10 years has this comment on it with (insert media here) and (insert people loved by youtube community here), ITS BEEN DONE, FIND SOMETHING NEW TO SAY!

  • @Kizzymorgan - I was just listening to comic Mark Moran expound on getting boo'ed after mentioning The Grateful Dead. He made an excellent point. He's not even a Dead fan, but he went OFF on the booer for their ignorance, you don't have to like them to appreciate their achievements, if you can't you're fucking ignorant and need to STFU. Immediate gratification feeds ignorance, non-linear digital access have stripped youth of time awareness, and thus perspective of art's development.

  • @Kizzymorgan

thats because you smoke crack!!! go watch the game of thrones

  • @Kizzymorgan Don't worry, there are still great stand ups out there, but you won't see them on the tv. Check out Robert Newman's show A History Of Oil, Stewart Lee, Simon Munnery, Dylan Moran. Couple more but those are the ones I though of off the top of my head.

  • @Kizzymorgan You should check out Terence McKenna.

  • @Kizzymorgan I think everyone knows (or feel on some level) that its bullshit, but like in most cases, people don't care. It has bothered me for my whole life that in general, the majority of the population don't care about anything, as long as they are content with their current situation.

  • My first time watching Lenny Bruce and I am impressed.

Now I will watch the others to see why he was so harrassed and persecuted for exercising his freedom of speech.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Brilliant man!

  • my first contact with real Lenny in movement

  • All my life I'd heard about Lenny Bruce but this is the first thing of his I've ever seen. It's so fantastic and perfect that I'm reluctant to watch anything else!

  • she could be so petty... sometimes I wish that she were dead.... but it would probably take her 3 hours to get ready.

*sigh*.. Lenny.. we miss ya man..

  • 2 hours.

  • Fair enough..

I'd like to say 'well, the 3 is right next to the 2, so obviously I must of hit the wrong button'.. but of course who knows why I did what, at this point.

That being said, the line could of read 'it would of taken her 6 weeks to get ready' and have been just as poignant.. *G*

We still miss Lenny.. man o man, could we use him this year.

  • Haha, you're a good sport. I was just being a stickler. So many comments are mean-spirited on the YouTube (seriously, it's a goddamn jungle on here, watch what you say), mine wasn't meant to be. We are in agreement, though. Miss this guy. A great and twisted mind.

  • beautifully done

  • RIP Lenny

  • Comment removed

  • inspirational.

  • You can tell this man is highly intelligent.

  • Such a fucking genius......

  • Lenny was a genius.

Every comic who got a quick laugh by using profanity owes him a debt.

  • I never realised he could hold a tune. I should have guessed - the guy used his voice like a musical instrument, the rhythm and pace of his delivery. A class act. He wasted much of his talent later on, of course, but when you catch footage of him on top form, he's unsurpassed.

  • I never knew this side of Lenny. We always heard about his swearing and ground breaking comedy. Who knew he could be like this?

  • We love you Lenny

  • dude show some respect, this guy protected freedoom of speech.

  • what freedom ?

  • freedom of speech, but don't worry about it, that's long gone, but you didn't notice, did ya?

  • of speech ? freedom of speech ? this must be a joke on mythological creatures thought to have existed lol .

  • @najs94 Read the biography "The Trials Of Lenny Bruce" by .... I can't remember. You'll see that he was no hero of free speech, just a poor sap who wanted his work card back .... that's all, and the police wouldn't give it back. He was cheated by the culture and the courts, unduly picked on.

  • @deanbigstar

His autobiography, "How to Talk Dirty and Influence People" says essentially the same thing. He openly admits that he would rather have been working steady than attending court.

  • @najs94 I hope that's all he's known for because he was NOT funny. Several great and established comics have gone on record to say that lenny bruce sucked.

  • @allxsuccess

so what did the top comedians say?

  • @allxsuccess - Name all of them.

  • proof thought criminals are taken out

  • what documentary was this from? I saw it once and it was great but Youtube took it off.

  • It's from Lenny Bruce - Without Tears.

You can get it on DVD as part of Ladies and Gentlemen... Lenny Bruce. It's an anthology DVD and also contains the Lenny Bruce Performance Film, Thank You Mask Man and the BBC Radio 2 documentary Lenny Bruce is Dead. I've got the anthology and it's very good. Supposedly, however, the Region 1 DVD of Without Tears is a bit dodgy but I've only read that once and I've never watched it.

  • wow the man that inspired Richard Pryor

  • And almost anyone else.

Lenny Bruce will live forever. I wish there was more to enjoy... what a magnificent mind.

  • Lenny Bruce's story is one of the saddest in history. The American Government used the law to kill him. And for what?? Bad Words. Pathetic.

  • What a performer. Why is it that the most brilliant people get involved with drugs? I think that they see the world more realistically, and therefore they get discontent. George Carlin, Lenny Bruce, John Lennon, Richard Prior, to name a few.

  • Jimi Hendrix, Bill Hicks, The Beatles, The Stones, The Doors all on the drugs...

Drugs don't make you brilliant but they do have their uses. You stated they needed to get away from reality, maybe they just wanted a different perspective ;-)

Long live my own right to self imposed ill health, decreed by a country I found in the near to distant future...

  • Drugs can open doors creativity as well, the key is to keep it judicious.

  • Lenny was a hipster, and a comic. Carlin stoled liberally from Lenny as well as from Murray Roman. Part of the reason some of you don't find him funny is a lot of the material is very specific to a certain time in America, a period piece.

  • stoled? i can see you're intelligent

  • e and d are right beside each other on the keyboard.. if you thought for a second about it you might have relised.

    retard.

  • what the fuck are you talking about? was i talking to you? and "relised" ?? learn english you dumb fucking idiot

  • oh, sorry spell checker. fancy spell checking yer life? you complete fanny. use yer noggin u fuckin tit

  • I work for oxfam and have a degree. STFU. Moron. Spell check yo self. DICK.

  • "spell check yo self" hmmm...yeah, you sound real intelligent...where did you get your degree? clownshoe university?

  • real mature. youtube comedy you are. why don't you stop monitoring? because you can't and you are addicted to youtube. am i right? yes i would have thought so. yeah as for that comment on university. one of the best in the uk. now go fap over youtube comments. so what i have intellectual laziness tbh why does it matter that every word i spell is correct. care bus please.

  • i have an idea...lets put all your comments together...and maybe then they might make some actual sense...

e and d are right beside each other on the keyboard.. if you thought for a second about it you might have relised.

    retard.

oh, sorry spell checker. fancy spell checking yer life? you complete fanny. use yer noggin u fuckin tit

I work for oxfam and have a degree. STFU. Moron. Spell check yo self. DICK.

    NOPE...THEY STILL DONT...sorry

  • Get laid. Does that make sense to you?

    You are a freak.
