@ ASHIMAGROVER...did the fat free version tasted good too? I want to make this for a potluck party so would be great if you could reply, fat free sounds fab!
@aashimagrover did u just say fat-free ????? This is indeed one of the best indian desserts but this is far away from fat-free....they have an entire tub of condensed milk...ricotta cheese... so it probably has more than 1000 calories...if not more.
@arpanasunilkumar : You will have to cook the milk down and make it into koya/mawa and that is the other way of making this sweet. That will need a different recipe and method of cooking.
i made it today and it turned out exactly like you showed .. tastes so damn good, just a bit too sweet for me but i can handle it . Thank you so much for sharing the recipe.

This recipe is good, ill try it but I've used another timing chart.
An easier version: 14oz condensed milk (1can), 14oz ricotta cheese. Follow the timing as... 5 min(uncovered)....4 min (uncovered)...3 min covered. Add 1/2 tsp cardamom powder & 3/4 tsp rose water. set n top with nuts.
Hi guys, I love your recipes and like to put my own twist on them... I remember making this barfi without the ricotta because I'm muslim nd ricotta has animal rennet, bt I can't remember what I used.... (",). Will update u when I do remember.. Keep up da good work ladies...
@innocent1221 : Sorry, we somehow missed your question - sorry, there is no substitute for ricotta. You will have to make this the regular way. Boil down milk and cook till it thickens....
You both are just fantastic, I have tried most of your recipes and they come out so well, I really like the way you both make even difficult recipes so easy to follow. Keep it up, we cant have enough of you both. God bless.

Ricotta cheese is made similar to paneer but it is not as firm. If you are in the US, it is available at most grocery stores next to the sour cream, cottage cheese, etc.
Thx a lot for the awesome super easy recipie. Just had a question. Can I use the OWEN instead of the MICROWAVE. I wasn't sure if that would be ok. Have you guys ever tried baking it?

Hi Hetal & Anuja I need to make the kalakand but its double the quantity so how abt the mins should them be same or double the mins..it looks so yummy can wait to try ...
@aquaneel : For microwave cooking, doubling quantity does not mean doubling time (unless you are making 2 batches)! It is approximately 1.5 times the time BUT keep checking (when you take it out to stir).
Our suggestion: if you are making it for a party, we do not recommend experimenting. Make the double quantity but in 2 batches.

You cannot use any other kind of cheese because it will melt. Ricotta has a unique property in that it crumbles as it gets heated instead of melting. You would have to make it the traditional way...
Thank you so very much for this recipe, it was so easy yet so inredibly tasty. Crumbly, soft, sweet and melt-in-your-mouth goodess. All my relatives were extremely impressed. You guys are super awesome!

But the taste was pretty much what we use to buy back in India.

let me tell u ricotta cheeze is made by the left over water of ....cheeze........
Ricotta is Italian for "recooked" because it is made by "cooking" whey.
Ricotta is produced from whey, the liquid separated out from the curds when cheese is made.

It is good to refrigerate after the pieces have been cute and will stay good in there for 7-10 days.
Regarding freezing, we have never tried it (it finishes so quickly) but if you do , please, do let us know.
This quantity makes about 20 pcs.
