  • I eat much less than that actually. In the past week I've only consumed 1Tbs witha naked bacon cheeseburger. Most fat comes from the natural ones in meat and cheese along with butter and coconut oil.

  • Jimmy - you mention to limit yourself to 4tbs of Mayo a day, and although that is a fair amount, why? The way I see it shouldn't it be med/high fat, moderate protein and low carb? I am also reading a lot of Mark Sisson stuff so I may be off track for Atkins here. as always, great video!

  • One aspect of kindness involves respect for others' time. The first minute and 10 seconds of this video was a complete waste of my time. I'll never get that time back. It's gone. Please, in the future, cut out every hint of nonsense and get right to the info, the obtaining of which is the sole purpose of our clicks.

  • @livinlowcarbman Hi, I love watching your videos and have been following atkins for 2 weeks. I consume a lot of chedder cheese as a snack or just with eggs. My weight loss has slowed after the first week even though i'm still in induction. I eat cheddar cheese that has less than 1 gm carb per 100gms weight. Do you recon that the cheese is slowing down my weight loss?

  • @ilovethechallenge Cheese and nuts are two of the biggest culprits in weight struggles for people eating low-carb because they're so easy to overconsume. Dr. Atkins called for only consuming 4 ounces of cheese daily. Try cutting it out for a period of time to see how you do.   • @livinlowcarbman Wow Thanks for your suggestion. I'll try and eliminate cheese for 1 week and see the results. Do you think sour cream, cream cheese and whole cream are also culprits in weight gain?

Thanks a lot for your insight, truly life changing. im so greatfull i landed on your channel and learned about the effects of dairy as i was getting so frustrated and planning to quit atkins. I'll go dairy free from now and see my results. Thanks again

  • I never understood the cheese restriction. I understand restricting milk, because milk has lactose, which is a milk sugar, and is therefore a carbohydrate. But when I look up the nutritional profile for cheese, many cheeses, like Monterey Jack, Muenster, or Manchego have zero carbs, and the cheeses that do have carbs, like Cheddar, Goat or Parmesan, have it in such miniscule quantities (as little as 0.4 grams of carbs per oz). So why the severe restriction? Why would it lead to weight gain?

  • @alphacause - I don't understand the thing w/dairy-wouldn't consider it a carb, and if it has any... as you said.. miniscule quantities. I love cheese, especially goat & some cheddars. Besides I thought this was LOW-carb, not NO-carb right?

  • Why would you want to "drink" melted butter. Ummm, that's just odd. There's no limit on butter, but your body's natural satiety mechanism will kick in and you won't be able to eat more than your body can handle. ENJOY!

    i love juicing greens in the morning.

    can i include that on induction, or is it way too many carbs?

  • Non-starchy greens are fine up to the 2 cups you are allowed daily during the Induction phase.

  • low fat/low carb is healthiest ...go with egg whites instead of the whole egg if you have high cholesterol. use skim milk/low-cal mozzerela sticks instead of chedder or american cheese...

    white fish, instead of salmon.

  • Uh....no. Low-fat, low-carb is a recipe for DISASTER because it sets you up for a one-way ticket to diet failure. When you remove most of the carbohydrates from your diet, you need to replace that fuel source with another one -- FAT! Dietary fat is what your body uses along with your stored body fat to provide fuel for the body, so eating low-fat with low-carb works against what you are trying to do. Plus, too much protein, which is all that's left, will spike blood sugar by gluconeogenesis.

  • Can I also use I CAN'T BELIEVE IS NOT BUTTER on induction?

  • Why would you use that fake butter when consuming real butter is MUCH healthier for you? :)

  • Technically, you shouldn't eat anything like wraps until you are in ongoing weight loss and maintenance. Induction is only two weeks, so you'll make it.

  • Do you think that it is better to have a definate schedule to your eating, or just eat when your hungry? Like, let's say...I just ate lunch about an hour ago, but I'm finding that I'm still hungry. For lunch I had a salad with cucumber, radish, tomato and some ranch. And my obligatory bottle of water. But, I am hungry. Is it ok to eat then? Maybe something heavier like the other half of the omelet I couldn't eat for breakfast?

  • If you're hungry one hour after eating lunch, then you didn't eat nearly enough fat or protein to satisfy yourself. When I was losing I would eat every few hours to get used to being on a schedule, but then you can transition to waiting until you are hungry once you identify what that really is. Watch out for hidden carbs even in salad stuff and EAT MORE FAT! Don't fear it, embrace it. You should NEVER be hungry while livin' la vida low-carb.

  • Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. I suppose my hang up is that I'm not really loosing all that much. As you remember I had started the induction diet on Jan 2. Soon after I got hit hard with the stomach flu. Now, up to the time that I got the flu, I had lost 6.8 pounds. Was thrilled! Now...I'm not really loosing anything. Instead I've gained 3. But haven't changed my way of eating...from when I was loosing before. Any tips? Btw, you guys rock! Thank you both!

  • Remember, low-carb isn't so much about weight loss as it is about health. Eating healthy will put your body back where it needs to be and the weight loss will follow. Come to my livinlowcarbdiscussion dote come forum to get support from others going through the same experiences you are. You'll be able to withstand the trials and stalls that come your way while getting the support you need to succeed. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

  • when you say eggs and butter can i boil them and add the butter . i use sea salt i have high blood pressure and suffering now from a heel spur i have noticed that drinking the lemon water it is slowly going away. do you not eat whole grain bread or rice that has been rinsed with water first . thanks for answering your beautiful peace

  • I usually fry my eggs in the butter. Sea salt is good for you and if what you are doing is helping your BP and heel spur, then GO FOR IT! I don't eat nasty whole grain foods because they will spike your blood sugar, too.

  • The reason I'm writing to you is to thank you for sure, and to tell others that this really work. Another thing is the Cholesterol problem I was using Crestor, my cholesterol was at 800, I was very afraid to do this, last week I tested at 210, the doctor was beside herself. True story.

  • Hi Jimmy, I just wanted to emphasize something that you said in the video to all of the viewers. You mentioned that you don't want to eat "OVEREAT" on the meats and things because it will make you gain weight. I got really borred this yesterday morning, and started gnawing on a bag of pork rinds, then that caused me to start eating other stuff, before you know it, I was 5lbs heavier. So absolutely just try not to OINK out on the stuff that you can have, and I think youll be ok folks Thanks!

  • No, No start over, yellow is delicious (sugarless)when u are hungry make a pork chop, or a steak. It's OK, trust me, You will loose weight. Start over each day.

  • Well holy moley.. I have done screwed up :( I have been what I considered low carbing for 5 days now and thought I was doing pretty good. I had the old book and thought I remembered the rules. Unlimited meat, eggs, butter, cream, mayo, green leafies, .. Now there are limits? Holy crud. I enjoyed your video :)

  • hey Pink, i would definitely not do "unlimited" because I tried that and I was gaining weight, I would just do what Jimmy says, "eat till satisfied". Ive been on induction now for 1 week, so im hoping I'll start loosing weight soon cause I got a LOT to loose. Just thought id share some of my personal experience with ya thus far. Thanks Josh

  • THANKS for watching Pink! Even Dr. Atkins never called for people to gorge themselves on meat. Yes, you are allowed as much as you want to satisfy your hunger, but people see "unlimited" amounts as a license to feast. Glad this helps!

  • I am confused. I have the Atkins Book (2003 version) and in it he classes peppers as the salad veggies. Also he says you can have 3 tablespoons heavy cream and 3oz cream from the special category foods.

    So why did you list peppers as counting as a veggie and only 4 tablespoons cream?

    Also I heard there was another school of thought that says just to make sure you have 10-12 carbs coming from veggies and don't be concerned about whether they are salad or normal veggies. Thoughts?

  • I wouldn't micromanage it to that extent, Lynn. Just follow the plan and work it into your lifestyle using these principles as a basic guide. Thinking about it too much is worse than not having a plan at all.

  • Your blog and your videos have certainly gotten me interested in low-carb living! I bought Atkins New Diet Revolution about four years ago, read it, and decided to go for it. After I became pregnant with my son in 2004 I let go of my healthy lifestyle and went from 140 lbs to 215! Since this March I have reaffirmed my healthy lifestyle with working out six days a week. Do you have a video on how to do low-carb when you have young children? I don't want us eating totally separate menus!

But I have blogged about this and know fellow low-carbers who feed their children relatively low-carb foods and let them make the choices based on what you make available.

  • you can eat meat,tuna and so on,but you don't have to eat more than your daily intake otherwise your body will start to store that excess into bodyfat

  • Eating to satiety, or your ability to satisfy your hunger, is the key to livin' la vida low-carb. Stuffing yourself is not Atkins low-carb as has been traditionally portrayed. We address this in Episode 40. :)

  • After four days and RAVING HUNGER, I've decided to stop it. There was no results on the scale like the last time and I don't like feeling out of control when I am finally allowed to eat again. It doesn't work for me, but I'm glad it does for others. They must be gluttons for punishment, though!

    BTW what can I put in my coffee apart from the heavy cream. Or should I use up the cream allowance for coffee.

    I've found that the only nuts that don't toss me out of ketosis are pumpkin seeds. Sometimes I can get away with pistachios, but I have to make sure that I count them.

    On Induction, whipped cream is marginal...it is technically cream and you are allowed up to 4 tablespoons of it a day.
