i got a question... ive never been to the mountains or in snow deeper then 3 feet so when you carve the sled side to side does i give you more momentim? or does it just make it funner i guess im jsut curious!
@anonymzs so that you can have a 400lb sled with the power of a 600lb sled... Makes plenty of sense to me. Did it to my wife's Phazer and then to my Apex, and I like the way hers rides better... Take a ride on one, you'll see why.
wow.........for the vectrab97 comment.....I had a 600 vmax before my phazer...it has crappy suspension and a terrible riding position. the phazer I will admit isn't near as fast at the top end, but has a very torquey bottom end and that keeps it interesting. but damn.... I think that the positive things outweigh the negative with this sled. However i think turbo, and supercharging these things is stupid.....just buy a nitro if you want a faster one...it'll be cheaper after the dust clears too.
for all you people complaining about how the phazer is heavy or sounds weird, test one out for yourself. you cant tell until you've ridden one in real life because i've been in foot deep snow and 5 foot deep snow and it is pretty much as easy to do as leaning yourself over on a pedal bike when you're just in a foot and a half of snow and it is by far the best powder carving sleds i have ever ridden
piston rings, pistons, cyl, melt down of electric cables stuff like that... it is 20-30 hour work just to change piston rings on that sled.... my friend use to work at the yamaha dealer.. he is selling that phazer now... he is gone back to riding yamaha Vmax 500 2stroke...
not the ones I have seen.. burn down in less than 2000km.. if your talking about nytro or apex you would be right.. they are more or less motorcycle engines. the phazer engine are made of 2 yz 250f dirt bike engines.. and they are not more reliable than yamahas 125cc 2stroke engines... I know dirt bikers who use these bikes and also work at yamaha dealers.. if you turbo tune it you will burn down engines way faster than guys with 2stroke sleds...
@vectraB97 I'm callin BS on you. Had my turbo Phazer for 3 years now and not one issue. On the other hand have a non-turbo RMK Dragon with motor rebuilt twice. Same miles, same trips, Phazer motor is 100% more reliable, even when you turbo it... Instead of knowing the guy who knows a guy who may have had a shitty time with a phazer, try owning one yourself before shitting on them.
@jordanlt001 you got lucky.. or your run with super low boost.. so you don't think 80hp on a 500 4stoke is a lot? I do..try making that level of hp/cc on your car and put a turbo on it with same level of boost.. it would be super unreliable.. I like the phazer engine like it is stock.. it's not made to beat a 440 liquid cooled racing sleed.. to heavy and slow.. but it have fuel economy and a stock exhaust sound that don't make your head hurt..
@jordanlt001 why don't yamaha make a stock phazer with turbo if they think it is reliable? Other brands have big sleeds with stock turbo.. yamaha don't.. they know it would be a high risk game, yamaha don't want to be know as a unreliable brand. You must void you warranty and run it on your own risk with turbo.. just buy a nytro if you want more power.. I think It wold be better economy in the long run..
@vectraB97 Hey man, Im running 10lbs boost on the phazer, and 16lbs on my Apex. You need to remember that in the yamaha handbook for both of these sleds, the first scheduled engine/valve maintenance is at 25,000 miles for the Phazer, and 20,000 miles for the Apex. Find me a 2 stroke that will make it to those numbers without any engine work... Sure, a turbo may blow a crank or connecting rod out after 6,000 miles or so, but find me a sled that isn't a piece of shit by then anyway...
@jordanlt001 - agree. I'd personally think my stock nytro was enought. My phazer too. My current sled Ski-doo 1200 renegade too. But if i'd want more juce i woulda go for a turbo not a 2stroke 800ho. why? Well since my clothes don't smell terrible and I don't need to change clothes before I drive home. If i'd do the same with that 800h.o. I'd probably puke my pants of out of all the twostoke smoke stuck in my clothes... but thats just me. Don't wanna fight over something of personal preference.
@jordanlt001 the 95 vmax4 800 2 stroke i have sitting in my garage has 13,432 miles on it and still kicking never rebuilt my dad is the one and only owner its ever had sled is 100% stock except the clutch sled has been raced man times only we have replaced on the sled is the track
@coryv4 Good for your sled. 13,xxx miles is not the 20,000-25,000 i was talking about in my comment was it? Your sled is what they call an "exception" to the rule, or a statistical outlier. If I had a dime for every two stroke sled in the world that had over 13,xxx non-rebuilt miles, I'd still be a poor ass homeless man.
@coryv4 Let me guess "Knowing how to ride" means being a pussy and going 1/4 throttle on the trails... Trust me, the guys I ride with know how to ride damn near better than I do, and they have to do a full rebuild every season. All makes and models, except the guys with yammis.
@jordanlt001 accually i take to ice drags in sault st marie (same place as the i 500 snowmobile races)every winter and its never trail riddin almost everytime ive taken it out ive put anywhere from 100-300 miles on it i go on long trips acros the lake and bay i have raced a stock nytro and it beat me by half a sled length in 1000ft
my friend have a phazer with extreme mcx turbo "160hp". 4 break downs last winter.. fuel detonation with 98octane.. I would not use turbo on that sled.. not reliabel.. the yamaha 250f dirtbike engine is what the phazer engines is made from, and the 250f is not more reliabel than a 125cc 2stroke dirtbike engine. 500cc 2 stroke dirtbikes are more reliabel than any 4stroke dirtbikes..
I love that the snow is deep enough to completely hide the sled at the end.
Seems like its been 8 years since I've seen any snow like that. And even then its only in ditches so you can't carve out those nice big motions. Makes me sad :(
