When she says "that you can buy" it sounds a little bit like chicken balls to me. >.< I loved this song as a kid, but that always ruined the mood a little.
She released the EP with this song on it while she was still an undergrad working on her BFA. Even way back then, she grabbed me. She took her music in a completely different direction, but this song is breathtakingly beautiful and soulful. Chills.
To those wondering where this recording came from (not the Universe version), I believe it came from a compilation she did way back in the day called Women and Songs 2. It ended up being a little different than the Universe one. Regardless, just a devastatingly beautiful song.
I cry almost everytime I hear this song even though I have heard it hundreds of times. The line where were you last night jesus jesus. I swera I hav uttered that same prayer like cry in my life. How powerful!
Beautiful. Sad...very sad, but Sarah sings with such an intense sensitivity, it's unmistakably beautiful and haunting. Especially her earlier works. But I have a question for you: Where is this version from? I have Universe, but there is a different recording of this song on it. Is this one live? Thank you for posting!
This is really great

Her music is deep and sensuous like that of Joni Mitchell. Intelligent and evocitive lyrics like Joni too. But still completely unique. I love it.

Thank you for posting and including the lyrics. I'm curious as to where this recording is from as well....Sarah performs this song very rarely.
