You cannot create a greek state in a Turkish majority area. @shitbomp yes but the problem is that both Smyrna(Izmir) and Thrace( Istanbul) have overwhelming Turkish populations. In Kosovo the majority were Kosovan not Serb. You cannot create a greek state in a Turkish majority area. Kurdistan is a possibility only because eastern Turkey ( Kurdistan) still has mostly Kurdish people, but i doubt the Turkish military will let that happen for now.

only SOME of Armenian people fought with turks against the byzantines. But that is because Byzantine Empire made the mistake of conquering armenia instead of keeping them as a protectorate them allies. There have been many famous Armenian Byzantine Emperors and at one point 1/3 of the Byzantine army was armenian soldiers. Nikephoros focas, John Tzimiskes, Heraclius, Basil II and Romanos I. All of these were Byzantine Emperors of Armenian origin who came from Hellenized families.

Famous painter and Byzantine Greek "El Greco". Famous Scholar, Philosopher and Byzantine Greek from Crete Nicholas Kalliakis. Not to mention the Emperor Justinian whose Reformation and Codifying of Roman law is what ALL European law is based on. I have a whole laundry list if you want.

That was 600 years ago. At that time all the countries were demolishing Mosques, buildings etc, when they capture somewhere, but Turks had great respect to other cultures. That's why we can still see a part of Aya Sofya. If you come to Turkey, you will see a lot of untouched buildings as well.
Even 100 years before all the Christian countries had demolished thousands of Ottomans buildings.
So, if Turks would demolish it, you would not see a video about it. That's the answer.

After the Empire failed, some 250years later, it was converted to a Mosque by Sultan Mehmed II when Constantinople was conquered by the Ottoman Turks and renamed it Ayasofya Mosque. However it was converted to a museum by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1935 after the establishment of Republic of Turkey.
Umar ibn al-Khattab died in 644 and has nothing to do with Hagia Sofia.
