its true.fighter advance avionic,super maneuverability and weaponry are a force multiplier.its the pilots skills and experience that really counts in a aerial combat.having advence fighter aircraft manned by inexperience pilot only lead to destruction as exampled by iraqi forces in the gulf war.lack of flying hours,training and experience caused the iraqi to be shot down like turkey although they were armed with advance fighter jet.human factor is the main key.machine factor is an added value.
Pilot factor is a big but it is no bigger then machine factor because all he is doing is controlling the machine and it is useless if the machine cant cope with what the pilot is asking it to do.

f-18 super hornet is a 4.5 gen fighter like the mig-35,su-37 n su-35..only difference is ruski fighters av thrust vectoring n super hornet doesnt..but what super hornet av over the ruski fighter is better radar,advance avionics n a much better ground attack n BVR capability than ruski t-vector fighters,,also,dont you know a f-15 manage to beat a indian su-30mki at red flag 2008,not in a dogfight,but better BVR capability the yanks av over ruski fighters,so dont judge by maneuverability mate..

@fmoa - Absolutely the most maneuverable fighter without thrust vectoring. All of the maneuvering of "real" air combat could be performed without thrust vectoring, anyway, truth be told.
@basikalmurah countries do not usually sell the greatest and newest airplanes plus they are super expensive and not worth the cost ratio, it's not just the plane itself but all the maintenance and etc.

If there is a real problem with the Super Hornet, it's the thrust/weight ratio, it is low depending on the load, but I hear the lower-speed acceleration is better than an F-15 up through about ~Mach 1.2. 3D thrust vectoring would be nice for actual close in air to air combat, but the cost effectiveness might not be good enough for the US military to want to adopt. With the AIM-9X, you're fucked pretty much no matter what, of course assuming it doesn't fail to flares/countermeasures.
Honestly I think the F/A-18E/F could probably turn almost with any non thrust vectoring Flanker or MiG-29. It has much larger LERX for the size of the aircraft, and probably higher amounts of total lift for the plane, especially considering the gross take-off weight is much higher than any Flanker, and the Flanker is a bigger aircraft by about 10 ft. As for being able to do the Cobra maneuver, I'm farely confident the Super Flanker is aerodynamically capable of it. Look at the AoA capability

Looks like a Boeing test pilot to me. And I'm not convinced this is IN malaysia... the carrier landing practice box on the threshold makes me think this is a demonstration in the US, FOR Malaysia. Malaysia doesn't have any carriers that they would need to have those runway markings for.

Naw dude the Navy purchased the Super Hornets because they were easier to maintain than the Tomcat and had less parts to deal with. Hey just strap a couple 300 gallon fuel tanks under it and it works just fine.
what i want to see is a cockpit that is fully independent of the airframe, the plane can snap into any aspect, and the cockpit is free-floating... maybe it's riding on dual gimbals or something, like a gyroscope...with engine bleeds to provide air bearings
a cobra 'should' be nose up high aoa with almost no change in altitude. the sh in this vid pulled high aoa and gained altitude, so it's not the same cobra performed by the russian planes
They cost higher in operation and maintainance compared to the russian aircraft. besides, they're downgrading it :( from the high-end spec, no AIM-120 AMRAAM given for MY.

It's all about politics. However. The Super Hornet is a match for all of the top Russian fighters and the Eurofighter! Austalia has looked at the Super Hornet but is currently going with The vastly superior F-35. After all, the F-35 is a "stealth" fighter. You cant fight what you can't see! Even the mighty MIG's and SU-whatever will be easy prey for the F-35 and lets not even talk about what the F-22 can do!
F-18s out perform the russian and euro jets becuase of the Flight Control system that we have. speed doesnt make a huge factor against the super hornet. with the 9X program we have pilots look at the enemy in flight and blow it out of the sky just with their eye. We just had dog fights with the F-16s and didt lose a match and they are .5 mach faster. and f-22's are so amazing and i am excited to work on the f-35s when they are relesed.
Australia has actuially ordered 24 F18 super hornets and will take delivery in 2008-2009 as an interim measure to fill the capability gap left bt the F111 retirement in 2010. They will full delivery of about 100 F35 when they are ready - about 2012 onwards.
su 27 are old. even with added avionics capability. the airframe and the ordanance it carries can never compete with the US. remember the cost of operating a russian is much higher than some western planes.
Has anybody else seen this? The Super Hornet is easily the most agile fighter without thrust vectoring. The Eurofighter would probably be the nearest match. Both are increadible machines.
F-18e I have about 2500 hrs in simulator very good aircraft to fly'.Air to ground capability impressive as well as air to air!!

the two engines have an AMAZING amount of thrust
the large control surfaces on the super hornet make great low-speed maneuvering
there are some OUTSTANDING avionics on the Super Hornets
(also pilot skill, which should never be underestimated. a good, experienced pilot will defeat a poor pilot in a better airplane almost every time)

facyually, all I desire to see this Herbst. I'm convinced that couldn't be done without multi-axes vector control. So I am persistently seeking F-18MATV and F-16MATV showed in video.

very impressive, for the Super Hornet does it so well! the hornet uses that large wing surface area and powerful engines to pull of the loaded roll.

im sure that sometime they will get the JSF but i know as of now there has been no order put in. And the way the canadian goverment works...it would be at least 15 years before it ever happens.

Naw dude the Navy purchased the Super Hornets because they were easier to maintain than the Tomcat and had less parts to deal with. Hey just strap a couple 300 gallon fuel tanks under it and it works just fine.

what i want to see is a cockpit that is fully independent of the airframe, the plane can snap into any aspect, and the cockpit is free-floating... maybe it's riding on dual gimbals or something, like a gyroscope...with engine bleeds to provide air bearings

a cobra 'should' be nose up high aoa with almost no change in altitude. the sh in this vid pulled high aoa and gained altitude, so it's not the same cobra performed by the russian planes

They cost higher in operation and maintainance compared to the russian aircraft. besides, they're downgrading it :( from the high-end spec, no AIM-120 AMRAAM given for MY.

It's all about politics. However. The Super Hornet is a match for all of the top Russian fighters and the Eurofighter! Austalia has looked at the Super Hornet but is currently going with The vastly superior F-35. After all, the F-35 is a "stealth" fighter. You cant fight what you can't see! Even the mighty MIG's and SU-whatever will be easy prey for the F-35 and lets not even talk about what the F-22 can do!

F-18s out perform the russian and euro jets becuase of the Flight Control system that we have. speed doesnt make a huge factor against the super hornet. with the 9X program we have pilots look at the enemy in flight and blow it out of the sky just with their eye. We just had dog fights with the F-16s and didt lose a match and they are .5 mach faster. and f-22's are so amazing and i am excited to work on the f-35s when they are relesed.

Australia has actuially ordered 24 F18 super hornets and will take delivery in 2008-2009 as an interim measure to fill the capability gap left bt the F111 retirement in 2010. They will full delivery of about 100 F35 when they are ready - about 2012 onwards.

su 27 are old. even with added avionics capability. the airframe and the ordanance it carries can never compete with the US. remember the cost of operating a russian is much higher than some western planes.

Has anybody else seen this? The Super Hornet is easily the most agile fighter without thrust vectoring. The Eurofighter would probably be the nearest match. Both are increadible machines.
