I think it's the excessive desire we experience which causes us pain and suffering. Desire causes us to become attached and loss of an attachment is what causes suffering. Think about it, the last time you lost something you really loved or felt attached to, your wallet, your keys, your pet...what was the feeling you felt? Chances are your mind went into catastrophe mode the further the loss felt imminent. We crave things too much and that leads us to suffering. Things don't last forever though.

What was important for me was to focus on myself, and learning to genuinely love myself, and my life. It might be different for you, of course, but I hope this helped!

Thank you! I have made the active choice to stay single throughout high school BECAUSE of the pressure. I know that if I pursued relationships in high school, then I'll get lonely and not do as well in school. I'm waiting until I'm older and more mature. I'm 16 and one of those who shut down, and I have been shut out of most if not everything I have tried to do. That or I try to "make more friends" but every time I do I normally get insulted and made fun of by them people so every time I shut down more and more. I never try to get a girlfriend because I get cut down or dumped and I even ended one of my best relationships because of peer pressure. This has helped me out and I am trying again and I'm more worried about having no friends at all...

I honestly have to say I really don't make myself more likely to be alone forever. Close to turning 20, I've tried to be myself and not a pretender, and it just isn't good enough. You're right that there's 7 billion people on this planet, which just makes it more likely that there will be at least one person who never find someone. It's a sad for some, but it's true.
