@narcosatanico thats funny, so kraftwork made an album when he was 4? go listen to the album dripsody, which came out in 1955, then pink floyd's Piper At the Gates of Dawn, that album was almost all electronic. kraftwerk arent original at all.

@peterismobiel I did notice that too and also heard that JMJ had problems with the laser harp all day, listen to 0:31, it sounds like a warble a bit unnatural for a laser harp, so it is most likely he is miming or the editor has dubbed over the recording with either a studio track or a re-recording to mask over the problem.

About 15 years ago, I saw Jarre on video at my cousin's and I'm effing pleased as punch at seeing him in action again after all these years. Back then, I found it interesting and appreciated it greatly. Now, I find it completely overwhelming. What a spectacle! Is that a type of theramin at the end?

To say that DJ Shadow is a master of "electro" and Jean Michel Jarre is "far from" being one is absolutely ridiculous.
Jean Michel's compositions are akin to classical music, only transported to electronic medium, it's obvious to anyone with two ears, or even one; DJ Shadow is not even a composer per se, a lot of what he does is sampling.
It's not even the same "league", you can't compare them, Jarre is not a classical music composer. Have you ever heard of Lutosławski, Messiaen, Penderecki, Boulez, not to mention some earlier 20th century geniuses like Pokofiev, Shostakovich, Bartok?
The composers are separated by time periods and technology available. Maybe its not fare to compare them. But the great ones in the future will become, let say... ancient, and the ones today... clasics of digital era. My remark was general, not particulary.
laouk6, I do not mean to split hairs here, but this video is an excerpt of Rendez-vous part 2, which was released on Rendez-vous album around 80's. :-)
Jean Michel Jarre jest francuzem-samo nazswisko juz o tym mowi-dla niedouczonych.Jean Michel Jarre jest czlowiekiem z przyszlosci;) Jean Michel Jarre-future man.Ta melodia jest piekna-wspomnienia,mysli,nastroj,a wykonanie perfekcyjne:)
And the tiny fact that his father is film composer Maurice Jarre might be a clue to his pedigree! However, whereas classical music is all about live performance, Jarre is more of a showman. His music is very tight though.
Brilliant ! i remember watching the concert on tv! back then this sort of thing was amazing to hear ! a lot of us had never heard a laser been played for music ! He bought music to a new level, it would be hard to be original as him
I don't think you guys quite understand the laser harp. It's not fake because by breaking the laser beam Jarre can trigger a synthesizer to play a note. No one ever said that the laser beam itself is producing the sound. That's impossible and if anyone said that's how a laser harp works then they're wrong. It's nothing more complex than activating a remote synthesizer by breaking laser beams.
franchement les david guetta et autre bob sinclar peuvent aller se rabiller lol

laouk6, I do not mean to split hairs here, but this video is an excerpt of Rendez-vous part 2, which was released on Rendez-vous album around 80's. :-)

well, with Jean Michel Jarre it is composed. At 5 years old he study classical piano. At Lycée Michelet he took lessons in harmony and counterpoint.
He uses mostly Analog synthesizers.

And the tiny fact that his father is film composer Maurice Jarre might be a clue to his pedigree! However, whereas classical music is all about live performance, Jarre is more of a showman. His music is very tight though.
