  • Dudley and Bill Murray light this movie up.

  • To me this scene is very sad and depressing but then when Dudley comes in and the way the camera swings on to Richie makes me crack up every time! XD

  • Your all weirdos sayin this beautiful what kinda fucked up people are you

  • I absolutely adore this scene. It has to be my favorite of all time, from any film. And the way Wes Anderson uses music in his films is just amazing.

  • beautiful, disturbing and intense

  • Looks as if someone got a little too carried away trying to shave, eh?

  • shit...just realize elliot suicide hiumself 2 years later..

  • The Elliott smith song completely enhances this beatiful scene!

  • Very beautiful scene. I love the lighting. A bluish gray makes his blood stand out. It's amazing to watch. A living portrait. It brings me to tears.

  • It's actually called The Royal Tenenbaums

  • I remember seeing this in theater and had no idea what it was about. I'm so glad I did. The Ben Stiller line- "Them's the rules." I say till this very day. Classic movie.

  • Oh my god.

    That was intense.

Can you please tell me what movie this is?

  • The film is "The Tenembaums"

  • Sorry, 1:32. Amazing.

  • My grandfather had a razor like that!

  • i am addicted to this scene. the image of blood running down his arms is on constant playback in my mind.....like treeroots are sprouting from his wrists.

  • Beautiful analogy. Every time I see this scene, it reminds ME of tree roots now!

  • Heinsbergen probably heard Richie whisper that he was going to kill himself from like four houses away.

  • @intanjible

    He was in the house......

  • LOL

  • I just love this movie, this scene, the music and Luke, just perfect.

  • The whole reason he says "I'm going to kill myself tomorrow" is because its a line from Louis Malle's Le Feu Follet, a hero of Anderson's.

  • Best film ever, if you like wes anderson, watch bottle rocket. Its his first film directing and the first film that the wilson brothers starred in.

  • HHAHA dudleys reaction is priceless! :O

  • luke wilson is at his best in scenes like this...if you've seen 'blonde ambition' you'll cringe.

  • he looks like the guy from CSI and even more like kelsos brother from that 70s show

  • yea.. it's Luke Wilson. He plays Kelso's brother

  • but, when he says im going to kill myself tomorrow it flashes back to when he had the beard, like today was tomorrow.

  • ive to laugh at the end.. im so mean

    but

    XD

    sorry

  • are u serious? maroon 5?

    lol

Its a beautiful song by the great and late Elliot Smith.

  • DITTO!

  • Maroon 5?....-_-'

    its Luke Wilson...Owen Wilson's Brother??

    ring a bell?

    anyway...amazing scene, and amazing song..

  • This movie is so awesome. i remember watching this part for the first time on tv..

  • omfg even though its a depressing part i almost pissed my pant in laughter at the end... ahhhhhhhhh im horrible

  • you're not alone xD i mean witf is the the boy walking in at the end. he's like .. ":D" .. and then he walks out again xD haha? .. really sad video though.

  • wtf is with the boy .. * xD not wift.

  • Are you two idiots?

He is screaming, but it is silent, hence why the music cut off.

This has been my favorite movie since I first saw it back in 2001.

And this scene is so incredible..and so sad...

  • me too... i feel so mean, but i was laughing forever!

  • down the road not across the street...

  • This movie was amazing bit it didn't seem like a comedy. More like a sad/dark comedy i guess...

  • thts sad :[ my grandma tried to kill herself by sticking her head in the oven.

...why did he have to shave his beard for tht? just throwing it out here knida pointless...i mean whos gonna be like " oh no he killed himself....oh he looks good tho." wtf?

  • he didn't HAVE to. he just kind of chose to. looking good wasn't the symbolism of him cutting his hair and shaving his beard.

  • By any chance was you grandmother a fan of Sylvia Plath?

  • hahaha lmao! no

  • no i think he was just shaving and at that moment he wanted to kill himself tomorow, but he tried to do it at that moment in his sisters husbands house, where she takes her long baths

  • he didn't say he wanted to kill himself tomorrow, he said that yesterday. if you look you can see a flash of him still with his beard saying it the day before.

  • Ok, WRONG?!? He says it the day of, who stands in the same position with the same shaving cream on? Anyways yeah he says it the day of, the reason he does it immediately after is really untold, but my guess is that because he can not take the emotional pain and the wait much longer.

  • yeah i know i realized i was wrong after i said that. haha

  • Cutting hair before committing suicide is kind of symbolic ("Legends of the Fall", "The Devil's Advocate"). It's sort of like the idea of shaving a lamb before it is sacrificed.

  • The reason he takes off the glasses and cuts the hair + beard is really a symbolism. We are talking about this movie in one of my classes. Before, it can kind of been said that he was hiding his feelings and emotions (ex. his love for Margot). Though, he comes open and "releases" his emotions at that scene basically.

  • como se llama esta pelicula en español, quie

    ro verlaa

  • oisssssss

yo tngo k ver sta peli!!!!!

  • He doesn't die tho

  • you'd have to gash your arms pretty damn good to bleed to death that way.

  • wow this is a little odd but pretty cool i guess what movie is this

  • The Royal Tenenbaums

  • that was a really good movie. but was that guy luke wilson?

  • Yeah, Luke Wilson.

  • ok... WEIRD!!! but RAD!!

  • This movie was so odd and I loved it! Best role I've ever seen Gweneth play.

  • great film...Owen made an excellent script...and Luke followed it perfectly...this is my favorite scene. Needle in the Hay completes everything. cu-dose to Elliott Smith.

  • Sadly, reminds me of someone I know.

  • AHHHH IS SO SAD... LUKE I LOVE YOU!!

  • Whoa! that was weird!

  • This was on some list for like best suicide scene in a movie...

    Its amazingly well done :]

  • it's okay ! I cry too ):

it's a very powerful scene. so moving.

  • such a beautiful scene, such a beautiful song. quietly, calmly tragic.

  • I always watch this movie but all the time when this part happens I sorta cry(so intense) but then my brother just starres at me like ima fucking retard...

  • wat song is this??

  • Needle in the Hay - Elliot Smith

  • This is by far my favourite film. This scene makes tears in my eyes appear after a couple of seconds. Thanks for youtubing it.

  • This scene is amazing. It sends shivers down my spine every single time I watch it. It is so immensely strong, incredibly intense. And Elliott Smith just makes it even more emotional.

  • wow greatly done

  • Easily the best suicide (attempt) ever put on film.

  • cual es el nombre de la canción?

  • needle in the hay - elliott smith

  • Gracias!!!!!

  • de nada.

  • This is my favorite movie.

And Wes Anderson couldn't have done a better job with this scene.

The blue tone, song, and emotion in it is all incredable.

This scene is absolutly breathtaking, and anyone who appreciates film should love this scene.

  • i think it was above the elbow...where the main artery in ur arm is.....thats what it looks like....but if hes bandaged frm wrist to elbow in the hospital...theres only one answer...blooper....but not everyone is smart enough to notice it....

  • ehh ... by the way it shows .. he cutted from wrist to elbow ... not the circumference of his wrist .. it would need alot of stiches

  • It's art

  • My god. Totally emotional. The whole thing, just.

Tense and you can feel the suspense.

    :(

  • The irony is so disheartening. Here's Richie, an obviously depressed individual who is about to kill himself and in the background is playing Elliott Smith. :(

  • luke wilson looks so much hotter after he cuts his hair ;)

  • is that all you had to say after this scene?

  • sorry but i havent seen the film so i wuldnt know but i bet if i did id probably reli luv it. from the looks of it it does seem quite emotional!

  • i think on it's own this isn't that special a scene, however in the build up to this in the film, and when he takes his sunnies off and you see his eyes, and says "im going to kill myself tomorow", makes this the most powerful and sad scene in a film i have ever witnessed.

    *picks up some tissues*

it's a hilarious movie, but i still don't understand how people can see this particular part as funny :S

  • i dnt get this!!??

  • thats because you're ignorant

  • in my opinion probably the best, and most tastful depiction of a man breaking down i have ever seen in film history

  • yep i really love this scene there is no better suicide scene

  • Great Scene...Great actor...Great song

  • I don't like this part at all.I couldn't believe what he did

  • Aspect ratio is wrong. Image is stretched vertically.

  • this scene is deep.

suicide is pretty stupid but dope scene none the less.

  • Whoa....that's weird. I just watched earlier tonight, thought to myself, "I really like the suicide scene, it's really... poignient." And so I searched on here. And this is first hit. Just searching Royal Tenenbaums. Hmz.

  • I suppose one could call it "Emo", if it's short for "emotive as hell". An incredibly evocative scene.

  • this scene was such a curb ball paradox.

i sure as hell didnt see suicide coming from him lol.

woulda thought the sister would have knocked her self off.........................

it's so clever, and this movie allowed more ppl to discover the song and Elllllllllllllliott Smith.

  • this is one of the best movies ever and elliot smith is awsome

  • :-|

  • how can people laugh at that? You tube is full of neanderthals

  • well you're just inconsiderate.

  • It's not funny like laugh out loud funny.

    It's ironic, you mean?

  • Elliot Smith battled with depression, alcoholism and drug addiction for years, and these topics would often appear in his lyrics. At age 34, he died from two stab wounds to the chest. The autopsy evidence was inconclusive as to whether the wounds were self-inflicted.

  • arrrh, thanks btw :D

  • whats the song playingg? x

  • this song is sooo depressing, when you really know about the singer..his name was elliot smith, and the song is called needle in the hay. go read about him and his life. then you'll really want to kill yourself.

  • wow.....good movie ...powerful scene♥

  • this was so powerful to me. Amazing picture and shows a true act of depression. Notice the scratch sound right before the blood runs down his arms.

I just love how it was shot.

  • this is the best scene of the movie

  • great scene, really paints a scene of depression. oh, and anyone that says its emo is a fucking retard

  • who ever calls this shit emo is pathetic, people try to commit suicide for many reasons, and its not EMO!! its been going on forever, its because of pain and suffering, its one of the scariest things in the world, because no other animal makes that decision like a human does, one thing is though if you call it emo its just because your scared of something that is a feeling we ALL get.

  • And what is emo? Some silly, trendy name attached to that suffering, or a brand for those who find it a romantic fashion?

  • I saw this movie and this scene ripped me apart. As a filmmaker myself, this is just...cinematic gold. The colour contrast and music is amazing - plus this is just so ... powerful. Augh I cant even sum up how I feel about this because it is so many things.

  • that movie never stops being amazing.

  • wow...that sux

  • Hmm can i consider this the Lost final scene? I mean he gets home from this island, and he didnt never shaved on this island, and his been on the island for a very long while, so he got like a big beard and long hair, and he decides to shave and then he realise he dont want to live, cause kate ran of with sayer, se he comitts sucide.

  • wow

This is a really powerful song

I've never heard of this movie though

I love the scene where the blood runs down his arm, the way it was shot was well done, it kind of gives you a glimpse, but only super quick.

I cant get over how powerful this scene is...the song and everything is just so...

    idk it gives me shivers

  • wierd..

  • elliott smith 'needle in the hay'

  • please, can anybody tell me which is the name of the band playing in the video, and name of song ?

  • what movie is it?? lol, i think that the person that uploaded it is a bit too emo!! lmao

  • the movie is the royal tenenbaums....how would have not gotten that by the title of the movie. And if you consider emo anything to do with the topic of suicide then you are a very close minded person and the movie is not for you. Even though it is a fantastic film

  • lmao, i dont think that everything that has to do with suicide is emo, well maybe just half of teh stuff, but idk i just think that the person that uploaded this is weird, and emo lmao

  • are you really laughing your ass off?

ps. i'm sure the person uploaded this did so because it is quite a strong scene from the movie.

Do you even know what emo means? And don't tell me it is short for "emotional".....

    PPS. You are boring

  • ROFLMAO OMGPONIES!!?1

  • This is one of the best suicide scenes ever. Damn beautiful.

  • This is one of the most beautiful scenes I´ve ever seen.

  • wow, I wanna see the movie, and

at least he didn't procrastinate xD.

  • i dont get it.

    he said tomorrow.

  • He did, but why put off something like that for another day? feeling the way he did he obvs fort it would be a good idea to get it over and done with.

  • Oh right i see - is this part of a movie or something?

  • one of the greatest movie i've ever seen

  • omg I actually found this clip! cool thanks for uploading!

  • I love when dudley comes in! bahaha.

  • holy shit!

  • The song is "Needle in the Hay" by Elliot Smith

  • very good movie, one of my favorite artists... i can only listen to so much elliott smith before it just gets too depressing... i'm not into emo music... but that guy can move ya :P

  • Sorta random... lol. The end he's half done shaving and he's like, "I'm gunna kill myself" and then you see the razorblades... hehehe

  • What was this movie about? I think ima go see it.

  • very depressing....

  • Euw.. O.O Sad. Not funny people?! Don't know what the movie is about but..

  • HAHAHA...do I have a sick mind for laughing at the end? I took it in all seriousness until at the end the guy opened his mouth like he was gonna scream, but didn't cuz the vid stopped.

  • lol i laughed too, since u said something :D

  • it does that in the real movie to, thats just part of it.

  • Oh, this movie was amazing.

  • wow seriously depressing

  • Depressing

  • wow

  • movie = song = greatness in the world

  • i cried first time i saw this scene...goodness

  • I love Wes Anderson (no homo)

  • this film is great

  • I love the song: Needle in the hay, by Elliott Smith!! BABY!!

  • Well it was cetainly a great scean, not sure about best but whatever Wes Anderson is brilliant!

  • I agree, this realy is the best scene in the movie. people should apreciate it. its perfect.

  • honestly, i don't find the movie to be funny. i love it, and i know it's meant to be a dark comedy... but i find it tragic and then uplifting. but this is the most moving scene in the movie and one of the best scenes of all time. it haunts me.

  • Best scene in any movie ever, period. I do think Elliott Smith
