  • i don't run ant addiction services nor oppose them im a sober alcoholic and this is where i was thats all i am a sober alcoholic i dont fight alcohol or my alcoholism i do my steps and i stay sober.

  • What is that on her neck at 6:39?

  • AA works if you do the steps. Going to meetings and not drinking just isn't enough, IMHO. AA has been a lifesaver for me, but everyone has to find their own path and what works for them. I know a number of people who have had great success with Rational Recovery, AVRT. As long as you find a path that keeps you sober, it's a good path!

  • What do they mean when they say bottle? What measurement of what kind of alcohol is what I am asking.

  • can cause hepatitus c also... i think

  • @badsign1980 No hepatitis C is a blood to blood virus usually contracted through sharing contaminated needles, syringes etc Alcoholic hepatitis is a self generated inflammation of the liver.

  • What happeded to the last lady? Why did she lose so much blood and what was that thing on her neck? O_O

  • I run an alcohol support service and have battled alcoholism myself in the past, I'm just coming up to 7 years sober now. I have always thought this was one of the most powerful documentaries on drinking I've ever seen.

  • @drillbitch Im curious did you use AA? Any recommendations on better options ? I quit months ago and I still feel quietly determined I keep some anatbuse pills with me at all times though I have not used any yet. Anway its truly encouraging to hear about you and others who have done so well!

  • @forestskog sorry for taking so long to reply, I didn't personally get on AA myself when I tried it although it works for a lot of people.I set up my own non-12 Step based group in 2006 as a side project to the drug charity I run with my husband. It is still going strong with 4 groups a week in my town. We don't just work with people who want long term total abstinence, we recognize that some people can change their attitude to alcohol and their drinking behaviour and help them achieve that.

  • @drillbitch I recently had a relapse and thought about going to AA. I found their website, and the kind of attitude they have to be very strict and slightly worrying. Personally speaking my alcohol counsellor was not a fan of AA, but I know that that group has worked for many many people. Perhaps it isn't for everyone.

  • @SethHesio "my alcohol counsellor was not a fan of AA" Im curious can you tell me what he said? Ive considerd aa to but fear it seems a bit cultish. What specifically did your counselor say about aa?

  • @BlackLabelSlushie Well it was a she not a he... (not that that matters really :) ) But she basically said just that, she was very diplomatic. I mentioned AA and she said "I'm not a fan, but it has worked for other people". What I interpretted from that was that if you go to AA it seems to be very much on their terms, and very inflexible. It's almost like a doctrine if you know what I mean? And there does seem to be a religious element to it. I know very little about it TBH though. How are you?

  • @BlackLabelSlushie But AA has undoubtedly worked for many many many people, and it saves lives... so I would never say it was a bad thing at all. But it does seem to be strict. I did hear about a guy talking about choosing to be a 2 stepper instead of a 12 stepper though. The two steps being... "not drinking" and "going to AA meetings". Rather than the full 12 steps which involve accepting a higher power than yourself. Like I say though AA saves lives and I would never discount it.

  • @drillbitch I think it should be shown in schools as part of a PSA, don't you think? around about the 16 year old age. I think education about it would help prevent a lot of it from happening. You're right though, it is a powerful and important documentary. BTW. Have you seen the 1945 film The Lost Weekend? That for my money is as good a documentary about alcoholism as this one, even though it's a film.

  • @SethHesio Yes The Lost Weekend is brilliant, I've got the dvd and have shown it at my support groups in the past.

  • @drillbitch That's very good to hear. I personally had alcohol counselling and it was many months after that I stumbled across the film. I approached it thinking that "well, come on it's from 1945 it's going to be dated, it won't be relevant to me or other people with drink problems" but I think it's one of the most honest, horrifying and brilliant studies of what it is to be in a cycle of drink dependence. Also the alcohol industry offered the movie studio 5 million dollars not to release it!

  • if alcohol was introduced to the world now it would be a class A prohibited drug..this is painful viewing, these people are so damaged..

  • i see, thanks.

  • This is truly painful but also true. Thanks for the post. If nothing else, it serves as a warning as to what the ultimate consequences of alcoholism are.

  • what was on that girls neck? scarred hole or something??

  • yes I had it myself and I had ascittes which is where you fill up wid liquid

  • does alcoholism cause jaundice? (the yellow dude)

  • alcohol can causes problems with the liver and problems with the liver can cause jaundice. Hepatic jaundice is proved to be caused by alcoholic liver disease

  • @snowskate IO don't understand the young girl binge drinker. Does she have some other medical problem? Why did she die?? Why was she bleeding so much?

  • yes.. well actually its messes with ur liver functioning properly thats what the yellow comes from.,
