  • so sad there are only like 20 people in the audience

  • I enjoyed listening to this.

  • My top 2 fav' trombonist in the same room !

Jaw on the floor. This is awesome.

  • kinda cool how they've got the jazz players situated, and they only plan in certain situations

  • Who wrote this song?

  • Why the fuck are there empty seats?

  • @stickywick12 Excellent question!

  • Those guys are crazy, nuts and unbelievable! These are trombone technical stunts par excellence! Probalby even Bill Watrous or Jiggs Whighams could marvel and be amazed at! Amazing arrangement and great trombone players! A bit loud at times, which makes me miss Maestro Carl Fontana's subtlety and trombone finesse unequaled as far as his double and tripple tonguing technique are concerned. Carl remains was, is and remain the best...

  • I almost melted with happiness at 3:28

  • 7:23-7:27, that is a nasty lick, damn!

  • Roll over Mozart!

  • For a classical player, Alessi isnt that bad at playing jazzy.

  • Gotta love the trombone! And Joe and Wycliff are two of the best at it!! Ability like that is definitely God-given. Man it sounds like a whole brass choir though, especially the last half.

  • man basses soundin like bari saxes! just fallin through the pedals

  • does anyone know where i can download this music score?

  • @TheRajaDunia you can its all improv minus the trombone choir background but what alessi and Wycliffe are playing is all improv

  • Yeah, I agree... Being the principal trombone for one the premiere orchestras in the States just makes you a "good" player. WTF. :^P

  • Joseph Alessi is a good player but i haven't heard him play like Wycliffe Gordon. Im just saying.

  • 0:44, the groove is fool of funk, its kinda funny how these guys wanna move so bad but, they refrain. If I was there my neck would break!

  • Dam this is the best video on the internet of trombone playing right now........

  • can someone tell me what is the name of that excerpt around 2:25....

  • trombonist409 check out stefan schulz. yeah he's bass, but the clarity, the technique, the perfection rivals alessi. i thought there was no better than alessi, but i think this guy is there if not better sounding.. imo

  • Awesome. Two great artist.

  • two words: GREAT chops...XD

  • Lindberg and Alessi are excellent in their own way. Once you get to their level there is no "best".

  • Over spring break i went to New York and saw a trombone recital at Julliard, Do u know who was sitting behind me? The one, the only Joe Alessi, lol, i also rode the elevator with him, i felt kinda stalkerish, but whatever, the man is the best trombonist alive no doubt about it, if u disagree, reply and tell me whos better I'd like to know.......

  • Lindberg.

    No explanation needed...

Christian Lindberg made the Trombone fun to see, cuz of his show's etc.

I went to Slide Factory last March, and i got a pic with Alessi and Lindberg and me together. I talked to them, was really fun...

  • I'd have to disagree. Lindberg is a fantastic player no doubt, an incredible showman, and a very talented performer. but in terms of raw trombone playing, Alessi is unbeatable. I've never heard someone achieve the openness that he has in the high range, coupled with the intense bass trombone-like tone quality in the low range, as well as perfect tecnique. he's crazy.

  • Lindberg has definitely brought the trombone out as a solo instrument, not just the "thing with a slide" you hear in the background of classical groups.

I think that without Lindberg, trombonists like Alessi wouldn't be nearly as well known outside of the music/trombone community. I guess their sucess is somewhat due to the other.

  • with that i'd have to agree. I appreciate what Lindberg had done for the instrument. Without him we wouldn't have half of of the solo literature that we have now for the trombone, though I still believe that Alessi is a better player.

  • dont forget Alessi's ability to walk all over EVERY different style of music.

  • thats true alessi plays a lot of styles , sorry for my bad english , ammm and i think the alessi`s color sound its beauty and lindberg`s sound its more brilliant , he`s only a solo player .

alessi is a great trombonist just complete :D

    greetings from mexico

  • Remember: Joe Alessi is the Principal Trombone of the New York Philarhmonic--a classical player. Gordon is primarily a jazz guy, and concentrates on the tricks you see in this video. His tone and phrasing belong in jazz, not classical, and thus he is in his domain with this music.

  • @max11dirt Thats what you think!

  • i play the trombone and im 11!!!

  • awesome.

  • the julliard trombone choir is soooo crazy

  • I'm so jealous of the Julliard guys here; they had a once-in-a-lifetime chance to perform with Alessi AND Gordon.

    Crazy.

  • damn unbelievable!!!!!

  • I second that

  • Yes!!Very nice!!!!!

  • awesome double pedal Bb at the end. whoever did it, thank you for blessing us with your manlyness

  • Amen!

  • Owned. Both of them are outstanding. No questions asked.

  • 2:44 - 2:47 has been stuck in my head since I watched this video a while back.

  • Love the wanna-be "Motorbike Concerto" smear that Christian Lindberg does by Mr. Gordon at 7:16-7:20

  • Love it! That lick at 3:27-3:34 is ridiculous!

  • My absolutely favorite chord in this piece is at 4:00. OMG! I could listen to that all day long!!!

  • So I guess that means you're a better player than Mr. Gordon... HA! Do you even know what a trombone is?

  • As an old trombone bible ((Mullers trombone school) says:Technique shouldnt ever pass the pure and open sound. But Wycliff is still the greatest technical player!

  • i'm really loving the mix in playing styles

  • The music and performers are amazing! Wycliffe Gordon and Joseph Alessi are the most unbelievable trombone players on this planet!!!

  • dayummmm!!!!!!!

anybody know how to put it on an ipod?

  • man that last cord...sounded like...an organ...amazing

  • wow. thats all i can say.

  • haha 1111 views

  • what other instrument could do anything close to the level of badassness this has? Absolutely none.

  • love those roaring basses!

  • same!

  • Absolutely fantastic!

  • Wow. Truly. This is one of the most fantastic performances I have ever seen. Wycliffe - the master of Jazz is as amazing as eve and Joe's tone and superb technique showcase why he is considered one of the two best trombone players in the world. What I would give to be in the Juliard choir.

  • what i would give to even have one private lesson w/ joe alessi.

  • amazing!

  • Crazy. I love it!

  • Love it!
