ive been closer to one was out picking herbs when i was like 7 when it was thunder outside getting fresh herbs for cornish game hens i picked them about 10 feet away a lightning bolt hit i dropped the herbs and ran outside my mom had to go pick them after that

Nothing more satisfying than capture lightning strikes!! I swear you film one spot for 5 minutes and as soon as you move KABLAM You miss it! :P

I often enjoy pointing and shooting my still camera at the sky with the sport caption on so it takes a picture every couple of seconds or so. Usually end up getting 5 nice pictures out of 1000 lol :)

i remember one night it was storming and my brother and his wife was over and we left the door open in the livingroom. all of a sudden a strike of lighting came through the door and almost struck my sister-in-law. the lighting went right pass me in front of me. i was so scared i quickly ran in the bathroom and shut the door behind me and locked it.

Those lightning strikes are not that close, yes they are big but if they were up close the thunder would have been at the same time as the lightning.

I was able to find the step leader that LClovesyoubeezy is talking about at :08. It hit something nearby. They were lucky not to be hit. Don't mess with lightning. You can be struck as far as 10 miles away. If you see a bolt count every second until you hear thunder. Every five seconds is one mile away. Remember that you won't see, hear or feel the strike that can kill you. Please be careful.

LClovesyoubeezy... i believe you may be wrong. i think what you describe as the "step" bolt is actually a reflection of the same bolt within the camera lens, seeing as the shape is the exact same shape as the bolt that hit the antenna as they say.

Yeah I agree that the lightning wasn't too close. But it is a cool video. But please don't call lightning beautiful. It's not very friendly. My house has been hit before and my grandfather put out the fire before the fire trucks came. The firman said that if we would have waited for five minutes longer, the fire would have spread over the whole roof. But pretty cool video anyway. :)
