Greetings! I have a different recording of this on a KING 78...at one point it sure sounds like he says "Play 'er Merle".

Of his KING 78s here at home, his banjo is on only one, and one side of it...He's with the Delmore brothers both sides of it.

Good audio in this presentation. Thanks! My memory of this song is being squished between my very fat aunt and her equally obese son in the back of our Kaiser car on the "hillbilly highway" to my dad's job in Barberton, Ohio. He moved us from coal mining WV to take a job in Ohio. I was seven years old. My aunt sang this song repeatedly as we made our way to Ohio.

I have never heard this version before ,the absence of his fantastic banjo actually shows off the quality of his voice . Does the record show who did the guitar picking?

We took this from a compilation CD released by Highland Music and we don't have any detail on the recording, sorry.

To my best knowledge, the man playing the guitar is Merle Travis.

kkkkI don't think the guitar work on this one was Merle Travis. I once had the original..until I dropped it!. Grandpa also wrote a follow up, called "I'm on my way Somewhere" (his gal was gone and he was leaving Louisville) about 1947
