I was wondering that, too. How did they get a hold of Meta Knight's ship? Did he side with them and was betrayed? That explains why he would attack Marth but then team up to fight them...

Perhaps meta knight thought marth was evil, so he fought him, but while he was fighting marth or doing other stuff, that wierd robot thing got on his ship, easily defeated all of the enemies, and then took over. If the ship was far enough away when meta knight returned, then he couldn't catch up in time. If any of this is innacurate, sorry, im not exactly an expert on the whole story mode thing. Actually, I don't even have the game(but want to), i played my friend's game.
